Virtual On Force limited edition detailed

The main reason that Virtual On Force became a retail title and not a downloadable, according to SEGA, was to make a limited edition to honor Virtual On’s 15th year anniversary.

The Limited Edition will be called the “Virtual On Force Memorial Box 15”. It will come with a soundtrack CD that spans six discs and 218 tracks. It also comes with a booklet that has 140 pages, this includes arcade and console product images, promotional art, pre-design images for mechs, past interviews with Jurou Wataru (series producer) and Hajime Katoki (mechanical designer).

That is not all, SEGA is also packing two Tangram-themed super balls into the package. The boxart for the limited edition is also diffrent, being done by Hajime Kotaki. The limited edition isn’t cheap, costing at ¥12,900 (about $156 USD).

Outrun Online Arcade pulled from PSN

I think we finally got some light as to why Outrun Online Arcade never came out in the US on PSN, since SEGA has now pulled it from the European PSN store after 18 months on the market. Has to do with licensing issues with Ferrari.

“Due to the expiry of the contract with Ferrari, Outrun Online Arcade will remain offline on PSN but will still be available on XBLA until Dec 2011,” – SEGA Rep

Could have gave us a bit of a warning, right? Seems that the license is still OK for Xbox, all the way till 2011. Though, from the sound of the quote, SEGA does not plan on re-licensing the brand and this probably means no more Outrun. Shame.

First Sonic 4 Splash Hill act 1 speed run

This is the first speed run for Sonic 4, Splash Hill Zone Act 1 in a little over 40 seconds. Are you a bad enough dude to beat this speed run?

Good video to take tips from and try to approve upon. Good luck, you will need it.

Sonic levels that should be in Sonic Anniversary

Picking out your favorite Sonic levels is like picking out your favorite child, sometimes its easy because someone failed math and other times its difficult to do, because you hate them all equally.

We have decided to take a crack at compiling a list of Sonic levels we would like to see in Sonic Anniversary (If the details turn out to be true and they seem like they will). I will only go through the main console series, way too many Sonic games to go through spin offs and handhelds.

This is our opinion, if you have some stages not mentioned, give us a comment letting us know how wrong our opinions are.

SEGA teasing 33 titles at IAAPA

SEGA will have quite the arcade line-up at this year’s IAAPA. They have put out a press release that they will have 33 arcade machines at the show. 14 of those arcades will be ticket redemption games, 12 video game arcades, 3 will be coin pushers, 3 prize vendors, and one of them will be a photo booth.

Some of the games are easy to spot via US arcade vendors like BMI Gaming. They tease that SEGA has a Monkey Ball game, so that will be a brand new title probably shown at the show. Guess that trademark for Super Monkey Ball Ticket Blitz makes sense now.
IAAPA will be in Orlando, FL on the week of November 15th. Who is going to go?

Sonic 20th Anniversary game details leaked?

The Spanish Sonic fansite, Sonic Paradise, has made bold claims to have the first details for the upcoming Sonic game in 2011. Its tentative title is Sonic Anniversary. We know a anniversary game was coming… but the first details seem exciting.

The game is suppose to take the best levels from Sonic’s past catalog and have you blast through them in current gen consoles. The levels will be in 3D and in 2D. No clue if this means that 2D levels will stay 2D or if all levels have ‘changing’ dimensions like Sonic Colors or Sonic Unleashed.

What has been ‘confirmed’ has been the platforms the game will appear on. It is suppose to be in the works for the PS3, Wii, DS and PSP. The Xbox 360 version has not been confirmed and supposed to be under negotiations.

In the confirmation at Sonic Paradise, they also confirm a new ‘Mario & Sonic’ game is in the works. But who didn’t see this one coming?

Thor: God of Thunder first details

Thor: God of Thunder will be the game for the Thor movie, coming out next year. SEGA has given up some information regarding the title at this year’s New York Comic-Con.

Actually one of the first bits of information we know now, is the name, God of Thunder. That is new. It is also done by Liquid Entertainment (Rise of the Argonauts). We actually knew this bit of information, just refreshing your memory. The game is also being written by Matt Fraction.

Virtual On Force bonus unlocked in Border Break

SEGA is running a promo for Japanese consumers that are SEGA Mech fanatics. The first run of Virtual On Force, starndard or collectors edition, will be packed  with a DLC code for Border Break: Air Burst.

The product code will be used to unlock a ‘rare’ paint color for your mechs in Border Break: Air Burst. Worse of all?  To use the code you have to be a member of BorderBreak.NET, a monthly pay service.

SEGA Japan has not given out images of this super rare paint color, but who cares? I mean, would have been cool to unlock a Virtual On Force mech in the game. Forget it, just port Border Break on PSN/XBLA.

Knuckles and Amy to appear in Sonic Colors DS version

Both Knuckles and Amy have been confirmed to ‘appear’ in Sonic Colors DS. This doesn’t mean they will be playable, they will just come in for no reason and add nothing to the story, like they usually do.

“The DS version introduces the other characters like Knuckles and Amy as kind of the guest characters. They don’t have any direct influence on the gameplay but they act as the narrative to the background of the story, so if you play the DS version you get a better understanding of the story for Sonic Colours.” –Takashi Iizuka

This is the part where I complain that Amy should be in the Wii version, so we can get better shots of her panties. But if I said this, you guys would all think I’m a weirdo, so I will not.

GameKings Shogun 2 Total War interview

Here is a video interview with Kieran Brigden, communication manager for Shogun 2: Total War. The video interview was for GamesKings, a gaming show from Holland.

Even though the questions aren’t in English, the answered are. You know, the answers are that matters.

SEGA de-listing Sonic games with low scores

Can you erase history? SEGA seems like they want to, deleting their lower scoring Sonic games from history. How do they judge if a game is ‘low scoring’? Metacritic.

“Any Sonic game with an average Metacritic has been de-listed. We have to do this and increase the value of the brand. This will be very important when more big Sonic releases arrive in the future.” – Jurgen Post, SEGA’s Senior Vice President of EMEA

Jurgen says they want to keep the number of Sonic titles on shelves lower, only to the best available games. That way users won’t get confused seeing 10 or more Sonic titles on the shelves.

Sounds reasonable. So if you want to get brand new copies of Sonic & The Black Knight or Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, you should go and get them now. Actually don’t, use that money to get Sonic 4.

First Captain America: Super Solider trailer

The first Captain America: Super Solider trailer is out and  we can finally have a look at the gameplay. It is pretty obvious that the brawling aspect of the game was highly influenced by Batman: Arkham Asylum .

Something also shown in the trailer is a small section of platforming, which is good. Means variety of gameplay. Sure the graphics aren’t really going to impress anyone, but if the game is fun, that is fine by me.

Platinum Games working on big multiplayer title

In a new interview with NowGamer, Platinum Game’s Atsushi Inaba says they are working on  a big multiplayer title. This is all that is said regarding the title.

“We haven’t officially announced it yet, but we have a big multiplayer title that we’re working on right now. There are many different projects running internally, but please look out for the announcement.” – Atsushi Inaba

Other things in the interview, Inaba says he does not regret the games that he created at Clover studios, which most turned out to be finical failures. This is a good, they were great games that weren’t marketed correctly. Read the rest of the interview here.

Skies of Arcadia Dreamcast mod is amazing

Just like most women, this mod looks better in the dark. Why? Because it has pretty lights.

The mod is all done by hand, making me envious that I don’t have the artistic talent (or drive) to make something this awesome.
