SEGA and Level/Up has teamed up once again to bring Virtua Fighter fans of North America a tournament of a life time, the “Sega Cup: Virtua Fighter Tournament 2013”. Sega Cup will feature a full day of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown competition in the heart of SoCal’s fighting game hotspot Super Arcade in Walnut, California on April 20, 2013. There will be cash prizes given to the top 16 players. I would love to be a part of it, but I’m a bit better in Fighting Vipers. Anybody joining this awesome event? SEGA of Japan launches SEGA Archives site

Just today, one of the SEGA producers who is in charge of bringing back many classic games that we all know and love has launched a new Sega website called “Archives.sega.jp” . It’s a web portal of all 150 titles available for digital services and a pretty neat web design too. The site includes digital games from the SEGA AGES Online line-up to the MODEL2 Collection. Just looking at all the games in one site brings back good SEGA memories I had back in the day. I hope we can get more games like Virtua Cop & Sakura Taisen next. Check out the site here with a click on the link.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown wins “Best Fighting Game of 2012” by G4TV’s X-Play

On December 6th, G4TV’s X-Play did their Best of the Year Video Games Awards for 2012. In the fighting game category, the nominees were SoulCalibur 5, Persona 4 Arena, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown and Skullgirls.  The people have voted and the winner of the “Best Fighting Game of 2012” goes to SEGA’s Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown! Glad to see SEGA’s famous fighting franchise taking the spot. It’s one of the greatest arcade ports ever made. Hope to see what AM2 has in store for the series in the future. I look forward to the next bout!

MODEL 2 COLLECTION: AM2 Fighters now available on PSN & XBLA

Today is a great day to be a SEGA arcade lover of the 90’s. The three legendary AM2 fighters that ran on the MODEL 2 hardware is now available on Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade for only $4.99 (400 MSP) each. Also, for those who are wondering about an option to change the screen size, there is an option to do that under “Settings” from 4:3 to full. I’ve just played it this morning and they are all way better than the original ports from the Sega Ages 2500 line and Gems Collection. Hope they sell well because I want some of that The House of the Dead and Dynamite Cop on my home console. Anyone up for some matches this weekend?

Sonic the Fighters Achievements Revealed

The achievements for the HD rerelease of Sonic the Fighters have been revealed, and they seem rather easy to attain. I’m sure plenty of folks would get all the achievements within minutes. There are a total of 12 achievements to earn, and all together are worth 400 gamerscore points. I wish there was a Super Sonic achievement to make it a bit more challenging. Hit the jump to see the achievements.

Sega posts Employment Ad related to the Virtua Fighter series. Is something special coming up?

Just two days late posting this great news but other than that, Sega of Japan posted a Job Ad for 3 part time positions to work with AM2 and on the Virtua Fighter series. The job description includes assisting with production, organizing/creating events, and working on the VF.net mobile website. They are also looking for fans of the VF series. The deadline for the ad ends on December 7th and the job begins on Febuary 1, 2013. Could AM2 be working on a new Virtua Fighter anniversary title, Fighting Vipers, or VF6? Either way, I’m excited about it. Our forum members are even talking about it right now.

Retro Review: Sakura Taisen

Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) is a Strategy RPG adventure series that features a unique sim-based story system developed by AM7 Team Shinobi (Overworks) from SEGA along with Red Entertainment. The series first began in 1996 for the Sega Saturn and spawned several sequels, including OVA adaptations, TV anime series, a movie, and other merchandises. While the game was a successful Sega IP in Japan, it never had a release in the West until the release of the fifth game, which was released and published by NIS America. However, the series has had a cult following within the Sega & anime community fan base with english releases of anime videos. Want to know what I think about the game and how awesome it is? Read on to find out.

SEGA Tunes: Daytona USA “Let’s Go Away -H. version”

In this month’s Tuesday Tune, we’re going to upload some familiar Sega racing tunes to our readers as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be hitting our local game stores in two weeks. To fill your racing mood for November, the first Sega tune will be the remix “Let’s Go Away -H. version” sung by none other than Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, composer for Sega Corporation who is known for his awesome musical scores on several Sega titles since 1990 such as Virtua Fighter & Shenmue. Mitsuyoshi-san uploaded this video to promote the rerelease of Daytona USA for digital platforms. One thing that has been bugging me for a while, why hasn’t Sumo have this awesome man to sing a theme song for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed? That would fill the mood for me to race players online. How about you guys?

Fighting Vipers XBLA Achievements Revealed

Xbox360achievements.org has uploaded the entire achievement set for the upcoming rerelease of the AM2 fighter, Fighting Vipers as part of the MODEL 2 Collection. No word of Virtua Fighter 2 and Sonic the Fighters achievements. The achievements seems to be too easy. Other than that, I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Round One! Let the Action Begin!

Sega uploads a preview of Sakura Wars Kanadegumi Anime

With the stage show coming in next month. The anime adaptation is also in the works based on the original manga that’s focused on the Kanadegumi (performance) group. It also seems Ogami and Taiga may not be the only guy with spiritual power in the Sakura Taisen universe, these boys can destroy demons with the power of music. The main theme song for the anime is called “Waltz, to you” by the Kanadegumi group. I’m hoping to see some reference from previous Sakura Taisen games.

SEGA Tunes: A Ghost’s Pumpkin Soup & Revenge

Halloween is kickin’ tomorrow with a bang. Just for this special occasion for this eerie holiday, The SEGABits staff and I decided to give you to classic tunes from our beloved Sega franchises. A Ghost’s Pumpkin Soup from Sonic Adventure 2 composed by Tomoya Ohtani and lyrics sung by Hunnid-P. I’m not a huge fan of rap but with Knuckles stages in Sonic Adventure 2, I can groove to. The song describes Knuckles going through the haunted hills fighting off Boos (ugly looking creeps that really like to scare the **** out of you). The song gives out that eerie feeling to it mixed with rap and I believe it gave out a memorable feel to Sonic fans during the time. I still remember playing this stage on the Sega Dreamcast for the first time. The first time I heard this song, I nod my head going through the Church only to be chased away by a ghost. After the break, we go within the hallways of The House of the Dead.

SEGA shows a preview of the new Sakura Taisen Stage Show

There’s a new Sakura Taisen stage play coming up next month. This doesn’t mean a new game, but it focuses on the Kanadegumi (performance) group from the latest manga which stars a new character named Neo Miyabi and the five main characters. An anime adaptation is also in the works. The play will run from November 1st to the 11th.
