Guardian Heroes price and dated for Japan

Wait, they just announced this title for Japan? Yes, they have. The website has gone up and says it will be out this summer for our Japanese readers (so basically 2 people). That is not all, they also said it was going to cost 800 Microsoft points. As far as I know this is the first time we have gotten a price point.

Check out the Japanese website here and act like you know what it says.

OXM reveals how Sonic Team picked levels for Sonic Generation

The latest issue of OXM has a ton of new Sonic Generations information, for those of you who are interested in the upcoming Sonic game. There’s even an interview with Takashi Iizuka, where he is asked how they picked levels for the game.

“We took a democratic approach. We only get to celebrate Sonic’s 20th birthday once, so we wanted to make sure everyone got a say. What we did was poll every Sega worker – including those in Europe and America – and asked them to nominate their favourite Sonic levels of all time. Then we did some research with the core fanbase and we were able to draw up a shortlist from there.” – Takashi Iizuka

Ah, but there is more information for those who want it. Hit the jump to see all the new information including what the storyline in the upcoming game will be.

Japanese Binary Domain trailer shows new footage

I thought the game was going to be English, world wide. Seems that is not the case. I hope it allows you to play through it with Japanese voices and English subtitles.

This shows some footage from the English trailer and a few new pieces. Also they changed the music. The game is looking better every time I see it.

Guardian Heroes HD video interview and gameplay

Gamespot’s On The Spot show had a demo play of Guardian Heroes, the new port being handled by Treasure exclusively for XBLA.

Really weird, that out of nowhere SEGA decided to bring this game back. No complaints, outside the fact that I wish it was on PSN. But hey, can’t cry over exclusivity.

Guardian Heroes coming to XBLA [now with screens]

It seems that the SEGA Saturn classic, Guardian Heroes, is heading to XBLA with new HD graphics. So far only an XBLA version has been announced, perhaps an indication that the port itself is handled by Treasure?

The XBLA version boasts some new features including online multiplayer and new HD graphics!

  • Action-RPG Brawling: Choose one of five heroes to level up and guide along a branching storyline with five different endings.
  • Friends, Foes, and Fighters: Play the game’s Story Mode alone or with a second player, or challenge Versus Mode with up to 12 players at once.
  • Extended Gameplay: Time Attack Mode, Arcade Mode, Arrange Mode and more allow players to explore every nuance of 45 different fighters.
  • Fully Re-Mastered: All-new graphics and visual effects bring the classic to life in a completely high-definition, widescreen presentation

[UPDATE!] – The ‘HD’ filter is OPTIONAL, rejoice!

UK Charts: Virtua Tennis 4 debuts at #23

Virtua Tennis 4 debuted this week at #23 on the UK charts. The game was only tracked for one day, so it isn’t a bad debut. We will have to see what happens next week. The 23rd spot is the all format charts, so it puts together all releases.

Individual charts they ranked:

  • Xbox 360: #24
  • Playstation 3: #13
  • Nintendo Wii: #27

Is it surprising that Virtua Tennis 4 preformed better on Playstation 3? Not really since it did have extras on that console, I guess PSN being down didn’t effect consumers’ choices too much. At least in the UK.

SEGA Sequels: Viking: Battle for Asgard

Every week we bring up mostly retro games we want to see come back. Viking: Battle for Asgard came out in early 2008. Most gamers ignored it for other titles and SEGA fans didn’t know what to expect. Reviews where mixed. But guess what? I loved it and want Creative Assembly to continue the franchise.

Toys”R”Us has Virtua Tennis 4 for $32.49

So money is tight, SEGA knows and has priced the HD console versions of Virtua Tennis 4 down to $50 dollars on launch. Not enough for you? You can get them at Toys”R”Us for $32.99! What about the Wii? A sexy $25.99. Nice!

The game is getting pretty good scores in Europe and there is a playable demo on PSN… well, you could have played it if PSN was up!

New Binary Domain trailer as title is delayed to 2012

The previous Binary Domain trailer left much to be desired from many who had high expectations for Yakuza and Monkey Ball series designer Toshihiro Nagoshi’s newest title, however SEGA have recently put together a new trailer for your enjoyment, the trailer has a lot less dialogue but focuses on more action this time round. It does a much better job at generating hype for the game than the intial trailer and showcases ingame gameplay, from certain vehicles you can control to the boss battles you will face throughout the game, the trailer also confirms that the game will be available early 2012, from its original release date of sometime in 2011.

Toshihiro Nagoshi Talks Binary Domain

Binary Domain, Nagoshi’s new shooter, was revealed back in January. We saw a trailer that didn’t give much away about the game and we haven’t heard much about it since. Talking to Famitsu, Nagoshi didn’t give much away! Why? Because as much as he would like to tell you more about Binary Domain, he isn’t allowed to!

”To be honest, there’s very little that we can actually reveal at this precise time,” he admitted to Famitsu.
“There’s a lot I want to talk about; it’s practically all about to burst out of my mouth, but I just have to keep it all bottled up for now. All I can really say is that it’s getting better by the day.”

New Anarchy Reigns character trailer: Nikolai

Nikolai is the new announced character for Platinum Games’ upcoming video game Anarchy Reigns. This character seems to like to read… and beat the crap out of his opponents.

His special weapon is Tesla Blitz, which are his big robotic-looking arms. The character is obviously a reference to Nikola Tesla, the inventor and electrical engineer (look at all the electric attacks in the trailer).

Virtua Tennis 4 getting £1m ad campaign

SEGA Europe continues to drop big cash on marketing their titles, this time it’s Virtua Tennis 4. The series will get online, print and TV ads during its European release April 29th. It will also be sponsored during Wimbledon. Those TV ads will start playing on April 25th on Channel 4, E4, Sky Sports, Sky, ITV2, and ITV4.

“With over a million pounds invested in marketing, this is our biggest spend on a Virtua Tennis title to date. Activity will create awareness at release, with a second execution to capitalize on grand slam fever during Wimbledon. The No.1 tennis series is releasing on what is a pretty significant date. For many, that will be the Royal Wedding, but for gamers it signifies the start of the gaming tennis season, and with the bank holiday a few extra hours of play. Virtua Tennis 4 is the only tennis game to include motion control functionality across all platforms.” –  Anna Downing (SEGA’s senior product manager)

The article keeps on saying it’s the series’ 10th anniversary, but that is incorrect since the original was released on arcades in 1999 and the Dreamcast port came in 2000. Unless I’m missing something? So now that SEGA Europe stepped up, what will SEGA America do?
