First Look at 3D Streets of Rage 2 Gameplay

Recently SEGA and M2 announced that they would be continuing their incredible range of 3D remakes for the Nintendo 3DS. In the next wave of titles comes three of the most beloved SEGA Megadrive/Genesis titles; 3D Streets of Rage 2, 3D Sonic 2 and 3D Gunstar Heroes.

Today SEGA uploaded the first look at 2D Streets of Rage 2 or as it was known in Japan ‘Bare Knuckle 2.’ Check it out above!

Crush3D – Tutorial Trailer

Confused about how Crush3D works? Check out this Crush3D tutorial trailer.

If you didn’t already know, Crushed first released on the PSP in 2007, the critics raved about it but the game did not sell as well as it should have, which is sad because it’s such a great and unique game. I’m glad that Sega are giving it another chance and I think the 3DS is perfect for Crush3D because of the ‘crushing’ and ‘un-crushing’ nature of the game. Let’s hope that it can find better sales on the 3DS.

House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut to support retro and modern 3D

So you, like myself, don’t own a sexy brand new HD stereoscopic 3D. It sucks, you can’t experience some games in their 3D mode. But SEGA has you covered, since House of the Dead: Overkill will support anaglyphic 3D. That means you can use those crappy 70’s paper, red and blue 3D glasses. Now that is the real grind house experience.

I uploaded a few screenshots, if you have some of those 3D glasses lying around, you can view them in 3D. If not you can view them anyway and type in the comment section how much you hate 3D.

Also confirmed in the press release (which will be attached to the post, after the jump) you can use a regular dual shock controller if you want! It supports Move for those that own the add-on.

New HD Sonic Generations box art says it supports 3D

If you go to SEGA’s Sonic Generation product page, you will notice that they put up a new cover. This one looks less like a place holder and more like an official retail one. If you look closer, you will see that it has the 3D enabled badge right on it.

That’s right, you will be able to play as both modern and classic Sonic in 3D. So all 3 versions of the game (announced so far) will support 3D!

SEGA using open source 3D for VT4

Apparently SEGA is using a free to download 3D program to aid in the development of Virtua Tennis 4 in Japan. SEGA Of Japan technical artist Katsuhiko Omori said this in an email to the creators of Blender:

Hello

My name is Katsuhiko Omori and I work as technical artist at SEGA Japan.
One of my main responsibilities is to research new technology and evaluating them for a possible application for SEGA’s game titles.

In 2010, I designed a shader rendering pipeline for Virtua Tennis 4 (SEGA) with the help of Blender 2.4. I utilized the material node-editor to generate and compose different surface materials and fine tune the finale results. In this aspect, the node-system was an extremely helpful tool in exploring the possibilities of this artist oriented experiment.

VT4 adopted the ueber shader and thus was it possible to re-implement my designed materials and user parameters on the game console. The attached image illustrates the face-skin material – the most complicated shader. As you can see it is a rather complex combination.

It’s all Greek to me, but maybe some of our more computer inclined readers can make sense of it.

In other news, the World Tour Virtua Tennis 4 demo is now live on PSN. Go check it out now if you are a PSN+ member. If you aren’t you can check it out this time next week.

Captain America: Super Solider hands on

Who knew that one of SEGA’s own movie license games would be getting rave reviews? Surely not us…er..anyone, really. But Captain America is seemingly exciting the masses. Destructoid’s new hands on/interview/wrap up thing details how awesome the game plays and the cinematic experience it gives through cut scenes and the fluidity of everything progressing. Check it out, it sure looks good and actually worth playing. It’ll probably sell as well as Iron man, if not better, which probably means a sequel. But promise me this, SEGA, if you do another Captain America game after this, make it good, not like the Iron Man games, or how Thor is looking. Please?

Super Monkey Ball 3D Ad

Here’s a very Japanese advert if I ever saw one! The lengthy advert highlights the three game play modes featured in Super Monkey Ball 3D.

The Classic Super Monkey Ball game play which we all know and love. Monkey Race which is a bit of a Mario Kart knock off and Monkey Fight, which is a bit of a Smash Bros knock off… Yeah.

Why they felt they needed to change Race and Fight from the frankly great fun party games they were in Super Monkey Ball Deluxe is beyond me but even more strange in my opinion is the omission of Monkey Target, easily the best party game the series ever had. Oh well, maybe next time.

AOU 2011 – Sega Booth Tour

Virtua Tennis 4 Announced!

Today Sega have announced Virtua Tennis 4, the next game in the hit Virtua Tennis series, but this time with a difference!

Virtua Tennis 4 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and will have both Move controls and be 3D enabled, Anna Kournikova’s arse will seem so close to your face you could almost taste it.

[Edit] It appears that this game will be developed in Japan by the original Virtua Tennis team and not by Sumo Digital, pretty big news! Maybe that will free up Sumo for some more Sega All-Stars action. [/Edit]
