New The King of Fighters XIV trailer highlights free stages

SNK has released a new trailer showing off the two free stages that will be included in The King of Fighters XIV 2.00 update. The two new The King of Fighters XIV stages are “Transcontinental Railroad and “City Circuit” and like said in our last article about the game they are free. Like free, free.

The 2.00 update for The King of Fighters XIV will also bring fan favorite characters back including Whip, Ryujii Yamazaki, Vanessa, and Rock Howard. Expect the update to hit on April 5th. I really wanna tip my hat to SNK’s team that have been updating this game and really taking fan feedback seriously. Maybe Capcom could learn a lesson or two. Like always, The King of Fighters XIV is already out, so if you haven’t played the game does having free stages make you wanna jump into the action? Let us know.

Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey first screenshots released

Atlus-02114-720x340Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey, the refined version of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey from the Nintendo DS. Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey will be easier for new players to play, well adding new elements to give the game a ‘deep’ demonic experience. The game adds to offer content for both new and old fans, giving you more reason to double dip on this game.

If you check out the screenshots, the game also features a new, slightly changed art style from the original. Though outside of that, the game looks pretty much like the original Nintendo DS game.

Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey‘s story line:

“As the expansion of the Schwarzwelt is threatening to destroy Earth, the United Nations send in multiple teams, led by Gore, to investigate and eradicate the phenomenon. During their attempt to enter the Schwarzwelt, all ships but the Red Sprite are destroyed. During their missions, the crew is helped by Arthur, who gradually accumulates knowledge of the Schwarzwelt and develops a personality. During an early mission within the Schwarzwelt, Gore is killed. As the protagonist and members of the Red Sprite’s crew explore the regions of the Schwarzwelt, they slowly uncover the truth behind its existence.”

Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey hits Japanese store shelves this fall for the Nintendo 3DS. No news on the Western release date, yet.

King of Fighters XIV gets Rock Howard DLC, updating to 2.00 on April 5

SNK and Atlus has just announced that the new King of Fighters XIV character is none other than Rock Howard. The character actually leaked early, but now SNK have confirmed that Rock Howard is the last of the four new DLC characters coming via the game’s April 5th update. Rock Howard has been a fan favorite since he debuted on the legendary Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Rock Howard joins the other three DLC characters:

While the DLC characters will cost you $4.99 each, the April 5th update will also include some free content including:

  • “Transcontinental Railroad” and “City Circuit” stages added (free)
  • Overall character balance adjustments
  • Action record and playback feature during dummy reversals in Training Mode added
  • Background music added
  • Feature improvements and some bug fixes

Got to say, two free stages isn’t bad. You can check out teases of both of the stages below in picture form. I have actually seen King of Fighters XIV on sale for rather cheap lately and I recommend a pretty underrated fighting game.  For those of you who have played it, how do you feel about SNK giving the game a ton of free updates, including the graphics update earlier this year? Does free content and returning characters make you want to get back into the game? let us know in the comments below.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 announced for Nintendo 3DS

While we covered two Nintendo DS remakes coming to the Nintendo 3DS from Atlus, they also have a brand new title. Atlus and Spike Chunsoft announced Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 for the Nintendo 3DS which expected to launch in August 31 in Japan for 6,480 yen ($58 USD).

The company announced that all first print copies of Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 will include a two-disc “User’s Best Album” containing popular songs from the Etrian Odyssey series. Atlus is allowing users to vote for what tracks make it into the Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2‘s “User’s Best Album” OST by voting here. Votes end in April 9th. The OST will be housed in a digipak case that will be illustrated by Yuji Himukai. Since the Etrian Odyssey soundtracks, including Etrian Mystery Dungeon, are done by Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi) this is probably something that will appeal to SEGA fans.

But wait there’s more! Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 will also be getting a Etrian Odyssey 10th Anniversary Box limited edition that will cost 9,800 yen ($88 USD) and will include a copy of the game, special box, and a 200 page Character Art Works book featuring art from all the Etrian Odyssey series. Atlus has announce that Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey  is coming to 3DS, which will be a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey which came out for the Nintendo DS back in 2009. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology first screenshots released

radiant-historia-perfect-chronologyAtlus announced that it was remaking their Nintendo DS JRPG classic for the Nintendo 3DS under the title Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. While fans where hoping for a brand new entry, its nice to see that more people get to enjoy the Nintendo DS classic from 2010. As you can see below in the screenshots, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a full remake having new visuals, game systems and even more added content over the Nintendo DS original. It even has voiced audio and a new character named Nemesia.

While the game has ‘Standard History’ and ‘Alternative History’ (Trump, please understand) modes, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology also adds ‘Sub-History’ which takes on a completely new story route. As for what Sub-History mode is, we will find out at a later date. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is coming out in Japan on June 29, 2017 only on the Nintendo 3DS. No Western release dates have been announced, but we will keep you posted. But its interesting, considering that Atlus also hasn’t announced a Western release date for Etrian Odyssey V, which came out last August in Japan.  What is your opinion on this remake? Let us know in the comments below.

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology coming to Nintendo 3DS

C7bVEi5VAAAo_eP
It seems Atlus’ teaser site has been revealed early, the ‘new’ game is being called Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. Sadly Sadly this isn’t a brand new entry in the franchise, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology  is actually a full remake of the orginial with some new scenarios thrown in. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology was suppose to be announced via the March 23rd issue of Famitsu Magazine, but it seems someone go the issue early and scanned the page (see above).

The franchise was previously missing in action since its debuted in 2010 (or 2011 in the West), when the game came out on the Nintendo DS. While I never got to play through Radiant Historia, it did receive critical praise achieving a 85% on Metacritic.   Since the first title came out on the Nintendo DS, it makes sense that Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is coming out on the Nintendo 3DS. Though it is puzzling that Nintendo themselves and 3rd party publishers like Atlus aren’t stopping their support for the Nintendo 3DS and moved their games to the Nintendo Switch, as everyone did with the Wii U. What is your thoughts on Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology being announced for the Nintendo 3DS? Let us know in the comments below.

Like always we will keep you updated on any news regarding Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology .

Persona 5 free and paid English DLC schedule released

persona5dlcWhile I don’t hate paid DLC, per say, I do miss the days when games came complete for a price instead of having a ton of paid DLC over the course of months. Sadly, Atlus seems to find their DLC practices to be working. They will continue them with Persona 5, which will feature free and paid DLC. Today, Atlus USA published the schedule for the free and paid DLC on the Persona 5s official English site. Plot spoiler, only the swimsuit outfits will be free and the rest is paid for DLC:

Check out SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths

022600963_targetfloorggyvf

If you are going to E3 2017, you will probably want to know where SEGA & Atlus’ booths will be located and thanks to the floor plans leaking over at NeoGAF we now know where to go. SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths will be located in the West Exhibit Hall, right next to Sony and Nintendo’s massive booths. It also seems that the American SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths will be shared and SEGA Europe will be having their own booth. Oddly enough it seems that SEGA Europe’s booth is slight larger than the shared both from their American counterpart.

I’d check out the NeoGAF post showing other booths to see how SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths compare to the competition. One weird thing is that it seems most of SEGA’s upcoming games are coming out before E3, maybe SEGA has some new announcements before the show takes place. We do know they have a rumored Shenmue I & II HD Remasters. 🤔

Atlus launches Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary project website

20170110_015435

Atlus’ legendary Shin Megami Tensei series is celebrating 25 years with a new website, that is teasing a new unannounced project. Since Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary logo shows the roman numerals for I through IV with dates, I will assume this new project will be Shin Megami Tensei V. Not to mention the star in the logo also shows five points, so I don’t think its there just for ‘cool design’.

The Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary celebration also spread to the companies’ twitter account and will probably be a huge focus for the Japanese side of the company throughout 2017. What are your guys thoughts on Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary teased project? What do you hope it is? Let us know in the comments below.

SEGAATLUS2017CREATORSTALKSEGA and Atlus Japanese creators where a part of a series of interviews conducted by the Japanese website 4Gamer, in where they listed their favorite games of 2016 and what they thought 2017 held for them as creators. The SEGA and Atlus Japanese creators that were included in the interviews included:

  • Toshihiro Nagoshi (Yakuza series general director)
  • Masayoshi Yokoyama (Yakuza 6 chief producer)
  • Mizuki Hosoyamada (Puyo Puyo series general producer)
  • Shigeo Komori (First Production director at Atlus)

As a bonus, they even have Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who left SEGA over a decade ago but with the re-release of Rez Infinite it seems he can’t completely cut his ties with the company. If you didn’t know Rez Infinite is considered by many to be one of the best titles on PlayStation VR, so the game has gotten extra attention from mainstream media. Which of course is fantastic since he is a great creator.  You can read what games these SEGA and Atlus Japanese creators liked in 2016 and what they hope to accomplish next year, read it all after the jump.

Atlus’ “Project Re Fantasy” first artwork and details revealed

Project-Re-Fantasy-01510A few days ago we told you that Atlus was working on a new fantasy based JRPG which would be developed by a new in-house team called Studio Zero and would be lead by in-house veteran designers. We now have more details on Atlus’ “Project Re Fantasy” which is the current title for the project. We do know that the game won’t be related to previous property and take place in a fantasy setting unlike their other Atlus games that take place in a modern world. Persona series producer and director Katsura Hasino, Persona artist Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro will all be working on the project.

Atlus’ “Project Re Fantasy” will have a live stream on December 23 at 20:00 JST (3am PST) and after that they will start large scale recruitment for the title. Seems that the project is still a ways off. Weekly Famitsu had an interview with Atlus’ company director and Studio Zero creative producer which you can read a translated version after the jump.

New Atlus fantasy RPG to be announced on December 23rd

Atlus-New-Project-Tease_12-19-16

This new upcoming Atlus fantasy RPG will come from a new production studio within the company called ‘Studio Zero’ which is led by Persona 5 director Katsura Hashino, who will serve as the game’s director and producer. The upcoming Weekly Famitsu issue will have a interview with Katsura Hashino and Atlus consumer software department supervisor Naoto Hiraoka. But seeing that Weekly Famitsu information always leaks early, expect more information later today.

Above is the first artwork shown for the game, illustrated by Persona 5 character designer Shigenori Soejima. You can check out Atlus’ teaser page for the project here. Hit the jump to read the message by Katsura Hashino in English.

Persona 5 delayed to April 4th 2017, giving duel audio as free DLC

persona-5-cover-def

Persona 5 has been announced in a recent stream by Atlus to be delayed to April 4th, 2017 in both Europe and America. However, on a brighter note, the game will include duel audio that contains the original Japanese and dubbed English, and will be available as free DLC at launch. Supposedly it was included as a request by people since the reveal of Persona 5, and was made possible through a “herculean effort from just about every division of Atlus”.

In addition, a playable demo for Persona 5 will be at the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, with attendees receiving a collector’s card. They also state that a PS4 theme of Ryuji Sakamoto will be available on the Playstation Network for free for 24 hours (with a tongue-in-cheek claim that Atlus was breached), and they updated the “premium edition” with the final image, which can be viewed here.

So while Persona 5 being delayed (again) sucks, at least there’s a few things to keep you interested while you wait.
