Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Creator, Juro Watari, leaves SEGA

Cyber Troopers Virtual-On creator, Juro Watari, recently made an announcement on his personal Twitter that he has resigned his position at SEGA by the end of February and said that he is grateful of everyone who took care of him during his time at the company and offers his sincerest appreciation. In the next set of tweets, Watari-san said that his future is unclear and hopes that he could find a new workspace with an interesting theme that he can pour his heart into with guidance and encouragement. As a final supplement, Watari-san said that there were not any troubles that led to his resignation.

As for the future of the Cyber Troopers Virtual-On series, Watari-san said,

“I imagine many of you may be worried about, ‘What happens to Virtual-On?’ While I’m sorry to say that I don’t have an answer for you right now, if there are any developments at SEGA in the future, I would like to watch with anticipation how it plays out alongside everyone.”

Yakuza: Kiwami 2 shows off gameplay footage, reveals playable Cyber Troopers Virtual-On arcade

SEGA and the Yakuza Studio has been showing off gameplay of Yakuza Kiwami 2. SEGA has shown off fighting mechanics, story cutscenes, new play spots, and of course the new Goro Majima construction fighting mini-game? You can see the Goro Majima gameplay after the jump.

Another play spot that SEGA showed off was a photograph mode that lets you chat up with models and snap photos. Seems that your job is to make them react and snap a photograph at the right time. It uses real life footage for the girls, sort of how they did video chat in Yakuza 6. You can see that gameplay after the jump as well. The last gameplay video has you exploring the city as Goro Majima and reveals a playable Virtual-On arcade machine. That’s pretty neat.

SEGA announces A Certain Magical Index / Virtual-On crossover game

SEGA has announced A Certain Magical Index / Virtual-On crossover game, which is coming in 2018 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game is being based on the 2016 light novel ‘Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On’  which was a novel having both franchises crossing over and was created to celebrate Virtual-On‘s 20th Anniversary.  It seems that SEGA loved the idea so much, that they needed to create a full blown game based on the light novel. We don’t know if the actual game will use the light novel’s story, which seems to be highly possible.

Here is the summary for the ‘Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On, which seems to be pretty basic in terms of story.  As for what the game will be and how it will play, SEGA has been conservative on those details. If this is just a Virtual-On game with A Certain Magical Index characters playing as the Virtuaroids, I’ll be OK with that. The last Virtual-On game released was ‘Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Force‘ back in 2010 on Xbox 360. You can watch the A Certain Magical Index / Virtual-On crossover game trailer above.

What are your thoughts on A Certain Magical Index / Virtual-On crossover game? Do you like the idea of SEGA using in-house properties to relaunch franchises?
