Sonic 30th Anniversary plans new games, digital events and events for 2021 according to LSB Europe Summer 2020 Licensing Magazine

According to the LSB Europe Summer 2020 Licensing Magazine on page 90, SEGA recaps on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise’s sales performance over the years and the success of the movie by Paramount Pictures.

On the last section of the page, it shows that the company will prepare for Sonic’s 30th Anniversary next year in 2021 with several new games, digital content, events, major announcements and a tailored licensing programme.

Hopefully whenever the global pandemic calms down, I’d be all over for a new games and an event held in L.A. What would you like to see SEGA plan for Sonic’s 30th Anniversary?

Convention Report: MomoCon 2016

nPP1uW3

Conventions never really…felt like something I’d enjoy doing. Crowds of people, loudness everywhere, difficulty in navigation, pains to manage, and sore legs did not sound like an experience that was worthwhile. I experienced all of these at some point or another, and truth be told…it was incredible. MomoCon was an experience I’ll never forget; my first con, my first meetup with people I only knew from internet interactions, my first time helping with a panel, etc.

But it wasn’t a solo experience. Me, my coworker and friend Kori-Maru, and a twenty four pack of bottled water had a mission: do something cool. Something we could return to the site and say “we bring you news!” or “we bring you neat things!”. Unfortunately, SEGA was not at MomoCon in any official capacity this year. So we had to rely on the old fan community to do something worthwhile. Hit the jump to see what we did.

SEGA Week at Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL runs from April 25th to the 30th, and we’re excited to announce a special guest who will be in attendance all week long: Sonic & Knuckles Rock the Rock finalist and champ Chris Tang! Sounds crazy, right? Well that’s the 90s for you. Chris Tang’s other accomplishments include the 1990 Nintendo World Championships grand finals and in later years becoming a creator in the game industry, contributing to franchises that include Street Fighter, Transformers, Marvel vs. Capcom and Power Stone.

If you live in the area, or have never visited Chicago, head on over to the Galloping Ghost Arcade! On April 30th join us for SEGAbits Saturday, which will highlight the many SEGA games celebrating anniversaries as well as the arcade originals of the SEGA 3D Classics titles – SEGA 3D Classics Collection releases that same week to the Nintendo 3DS. We also plan to feature special tournaments with prizes . There will also be surprise reveals of classic SEGA arcade machines, playable for the first time at the arcade, and Chris Tang will be there.

Having taken a break since the last event in 2013, the Summer of Sonic organizers are feeling revitalized and ready to bring the event back for 2016 – and they need your help! Dubbed the largest fan run officially recognized Sonic the Hedgehog event in Europe, Summer of Sonic is relying on a Kickstarter campaign to fund their 2016 convention. With a goal of $28,675, and $20,842 already raised with 28 days to go, it should be no difficult task to fund the event. The planned location is the ILEC Conference Centre in Earls Court, London, and the proposed date is August, 6th, 2016. Activities at the event are said to include meet and greets with the special guests, competitions in art, gaming and cosplay, Q&A sessions with guests, and fan showcases.

Like any sequel, we aim to make it bigger for everyone in the southern east coast area with more games, activities, and special guests from the SEGA community. Another convention is on the horizon, and once again SEGAbits leaves no fan left behind as we’re set to invade San Diego Comic Con

SEGAbits writers nuckles87 and Shigs will be providing coverage from the event, attending panels and checking out SEGA’s video game offerings. On the panel side of things, we will be attending the Archie Comics panel for the new Sonic Boom comic book series as well as Blake J. Harris’s Console Wars panel featuring Tom Kalinske (Sega of America), Al Nilsen (Sega of America), Bill White (Nintendo of America), and Perrin Kaplan (Nintendo of America), as well as Julian Rosenberg, producer of the upcoming Console Wars documentary. If we’re lucky we might even get some one-on-one time with Blake, Tom, and Al!

SEGA and MJD Interactive bringing Alien: Isolation augmented reality game to San Diego Comic Con

egg-door-open-hed-2014

San Diego Comic Con is fast approaching, and SEGA has some unique plans for The Creative Assembly’s upcoming Alien: Isolation. In collaboration with MJD Interactive, SEGA will allow attendees to play a mobile game created to promote the upcoming first-person horror title. Players will use a motion tracker to keep track of a digital alien as the player traverses the convention. The end goal is to find a seven foot tall alien egg hidden somewhere at the event. SEGA is also teasing that things besides an alien and an egg will be hidden, waiting to be found. What happens once players find the giant egg? SEGAbits will be attending San Diego Comic Con, so when the event hits we’ll be sure to check this out and report back!

Smithsonian’s The Art of Video Games exhibit to feature original SEGA art!

Via a recent email update, it has been revealed that the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s exhibit The Art of Video Games will include original concept art from the games featured. While the email doesn’t reveal much, it DOES feature a piece of original Sonic concept art showing off the interior of a blimp which I assume to be Flying Battery Zone. If that’s what they’re teasing, who knows what other pieces of SEGA art will appear! Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Phantasy Star are just some of the other SEGA franchises in the exhibition. Fingers crossed for some more original SEGA art! The exhibit opens in Washington, D.C. on March 16, 2012. I’m planning on going, who else is?
