Grandia II HD hits PC this year, new screenshots revealed

We announced prior that Grandia II HD was getting a new PC port based on the Dreamcast version (best version) of the game. Now we know that publisher GungHo Online Entertainment plans to release Grandia II HD sometime this year via  GOG and also on Steam.

The HD version will have updated graphics for HD displays, include Japanese voice acting (along with English dub), controller support and a new, harder difficulty mode. Grandia II came out on the Dreamcast in 2000 and was considered one of the best RPGs released on the console. A few years later it got a PS2 and PC port, but both these ports where noted for being inferior to the Dreamcast version. Glad that the world (outside of Dreamcast owners) will get to re-experience Grandia II the way it was mean’t to be enjoyed.

Grandia II getting a PC port based on the Dreamcast version

GungHo announced that they’re re-releasing the acclaimed JRPG Grandia II on PC via Steam. While the game already got a PC port back in 2002, this will be a new port based on the original Dreamcast version. Aside from the usual Steam features like achievements and trading cards, the game will have both mouse and keyboard and gamepad support.

The port is the result of a survey GungHo put out, in which they asked fans which games by Game Arts they would want to see re-released and on which platforms. With Grandia II apparently getting a lot of support for a PC port. GungHo hasn’t said when we can expect to see this release or if any other much requested games like Lunar will be seeing re-releases as well.

As a big fan of many of the Dreamcast’s more obscure games I enjoy writing about Dreamcast games that even many Dreamcast owners, over a decade later, haven’t played yet. The five games in this list are games that are still relevant, games that Dreamcast owners should still pick up even years later. These games have aged gracefully and while not necessarily unique to the Dreamcast, are still games that need to be experienced on the Dreamcast.
