Sonic Mania Original Soundtrack “Selected Edition” hits iTunes

If you have been waiting to get yourself the digital version of the Sonic Mania soundtrack, written by Tee Lopes, you are in luck. The Sonic Mania Original Soundtrack (Selected Edition) has now hit iTunes (USA link here). The soundtrack features 47 tracks, seems that old tracks that would require a royalty fee have been left out. Notice Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone missing. I guess you can let me know in the comments below. The soundtrack is priced at £14.99 or $15.99! The Sonic Mania soundtrack also got a vinyl release by Data Disc, obviously featuring less tracks. No excuses not to promote good video game music.

Above I linked to a interview with had with Tee Lopes regarding his amazing work on the Sonic Mania soundtrack. If you are a fan of his music, give it a listen!

Amiibos allow you to instantly unlock costumes in Bayonetta for Nintendo Switch

Amiibos allow you to instantly unlock costumes in Switch Bayonetta

Nintendo’s UK site has posted an article for the upcoming Bayonetta 1 + 2 Nintendo Switch port. The article is a fairly generic press release with no new news until one drops down to a small blurb at the end.

By tapping in compatible amiibo (sold separately), you can instantly unlock a number of Nintendo-themed costumes for Bayonetta to wear, weapons to use and more!

The Nintendo costumes in Wii U versions of the games required one to save up Halos and buy them at Rodin’s shop. Now you can simply spend your Dogecoins on Nintendo amiibos and unlock your design outfit when you fire up the game the first time. It’s okay, we know you’re going to unlock the Star Mercenary outfit first. For reasons.

SEGA’s Toshihiro Nagoshi teases unannounced projects for 2018

Nagoshi-Taiwan

The Japanese website 4Gamer has put up an article talking to Japanese video game developers from a wide range of companies on what to expect from them in 2018. It is basically a yearly tradition at this point. Sadly we only got one person interviewed from SEGA and that was Toshihiro Nagoshi, who has many hats at SEGA including Chief Creative Officer. This is what Toshihiro Nagoshi had to say about 2018:

“We still have some unannounced things. We have more surprises, so please look forward to it!”- Toshihiro Nagoshi

Sucks that he didn’t tease what these announcements could be or from what studio within SEGA they are coming from. Toshihiro Nagoshi’s own studio, Yakuza Studios, seems to have laid out its future recently at this year’s TGS with titles like Yakuza Kiwami 2 (Just released earlier this month in Japan), Hokuto ga Gotoku (comes out March 2018), Yakuza Online mobile game, and the barely teased Shin Yakuza title. I doubt these announcements are from the Yakuza Studio, but you never know. There was that financial report that stated SEGA wanted to revive major IPs on their road to 2020. Could we be seeing some of the first hints of this next year? What do you want to see SEGA announce for next year? Let us know in the comments below!

Valkyria Chronicles 4 trailer shows off new gameplay mechanics

The trailer above was shown off during the live stream for Valkyria Chronicles 4, which shows off a lot of the in-game mechanics SEGA has been talking about recently. The new trailer also shows off a brand new stage features such as environmental effects like fire and blizzards which can block areas in the map, making the user rethink their strategy during a match.

Another new features shown in the trailer is a “Dummy Tank” that is basically a decoy. Out side of that, it seems to have a lot of what we all loved from the first game and that isn’t a bad thing. Valkyria Chronicles 4 hits Japan on March 21, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and later on for Nintendo Switch. While we in the West will get the game sometime in 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Sonic Forces Releases ‘Free’ Super Sonic DLC For a Limited Time

If you guys forgot, we did a SEGA News Bits video on the Sonic Forces day one patch that had a Sanic shirt and Super Sonic. The Sanic shirt was released on November 27th for free. Well, now SEGA has made the Super Sonic transformation DLC live, at least in Europe. The page says it comes out on the 22nd, so expect it on the US PlayStation Store tomorrow.

“Speed through the levels faster than Sonic… as Super Sonic! Get the SUPER SONIC DLC for SONIC FORCES now to transform into Super Sonic across 20+ Modern and Classic Sonic. Collect the right amount of rings and Super Sonic will spring into action, giving you the ability to sprint across stages at break-neck speeds.”

According to the product description, you can’t participate in rankings with the Super Sonic DLC. If this was the end of this news story, I would say that SEGA did a great job, but sadly it isn’t. According to the Nintendo eShop page for the DLC, Super Sonic will be $2 paid DLC after January 23rd. I usually don’t mind companies adding new things to games and charging, if its worth it. But here are my issues with this…

Nintendo Switch Top 20 Selling Games of 2017 Includes Sonic Mania, Puyo Puyo Tetris

bestsellingnintendoswitchThe Nintendo Switch store has posted up the highest selling Nintendo Switch software for 2017. According to Reset Era post, this includes both digital and physical. The top 20 best selling Nintendo Switch games was mostly dominated by Nintendo games. No surprise there but it also included SEGA games like Sonic Mania and Puyo Puyo Tetris, while Sonic Forces didn’t make the top 20 list. According to people on the forum, Pokken DX sold over 500,000 units, considering Sonic Mania did better than that game its safe to assume it did over half a million digitally on the e-store.

We got the big announcement from Nintendo the other day that they will be publishing both Bayonetta 1+2 collection and Bayonetta 3 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Bayonetta 1+2 Coming to Switch, Bayonetta 3 Announced

The very last thing I expected from the Game Awards was Bayonetta. Just a few moments ago, during the 2017 Game Awards, Reggie Fils-Aime from Nintendo came on to reveal that the Wii U double pack of Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2 would be coming directly to the Nintendo Switch. Not only that, but Bayonetta 3 was also given a world premiere reveal, also exclusive to the Switch. Nothing is known at this time about the new Bayonetta 1+2 release, whether pricing will be identical to the Wii U versions (both games for $60 or $30 seperately), amiibo support, etc. Likewise, the only thing about Bayonetta 3 is that it is coming to the Switch.

Bayonetta 2 (with Bayonetta 1 free download) will release on the switch on February 18, 2018. You can view the rerelease trailer after the break.

SEGA Europe teases that they have “exciting projects coming up”, sharing details in 2018

SEGAEYE

SEGA Europe has been teasing new video game projects announcements via twitter the other day. So what could these mysterious projects be? We do have some past news articles that can hint at what they have up their sleeves. For example we reported back in 2015 that The Creative Assembly was working on a “multi-platform AAA blockbuster”, which would mean their return to the console space since they released Alien Isolation back in 2014. We also know that Two Point Studios (ex-Lionhead and Bullfrog) is working with SEGA Europe on a new simulation game, which is set to be announced on January 16th. There’s also that big rumor about the Shenmue HD collection is right around the corner, one of the rumors points at the port being done by UK developer Just Add Water. If that is true, then that would mean that SEGA Europe would probably be involved in handling the project. I also hear that SEGA Europe will be in charge of handling PC ports of upcoming SEGA Japan games, so I can also see them announcing a Valkyria Chronicles 4 port for the West, considering their port of the first game has almost sold a million copies. Of course, this is just my speculation based on past news articles and rumors.

But let me hand the mic over to you, what do you want to see SEGA Europe work on? SEGA Europe has been handling most of the PC stuff, including ports of last generation games like Bayonetta, Vanquish, and even created The Typing of the Dead: Overkill. Is there any other games you want to see them port? Maybe extend their porting program to modern consoles? Sound off in the comments below.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 reveals six new characters and details its Brave system

ValkyriaChronicles4SEGA revealed a ton of new information regarding the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4 via the latest issue of the Weekly Famitsu. They detailed six brand new characters (including one being a Valkyria) and the new “Brave” system being introduced in this title.

Check out all the information after the break. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is set to hit PlayStation 4 on March 21, 2018 and for Nintendo Switch in Summer 2018 in Japan. As for the European and American releases, its coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018.
