SEGA’s extended TV ad for Alien: Isolation looks great

I think they went for a more subtle approach in this ad than I thought they where going to go with. No pop up scare tactics and sets up the mood for the game rather well. It is also nice to see that SEGA is going to actually advertise this game (not that they didn’t with the last Alien game).

So what do you guys think of the advert?

The HD remake of Pier Solar and the Great Architects, the 2010 SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive RPG, is finally set to release on September 30th on the PS4, PS3, Ouya and PC via Steam.

Sounds awesome but what about us that pre-ordered the Xbox One, Wii U and even the physical Dreamcast version? Publisher Watermelon Games said they will be announcing release dates on those platforms later this month.

Who will be picking up the game on these platforms?

SEGA and The Creative Assembly announce Total War: Attila at EGX London 2014 – game to release in 2015

SEGA and The Creative Assemblyhave unveiled a new Total War title, Total War: Attila, at this years EGX London event. Described as “challenging” and designed for “Total War veterans”, Total War: Attila will obviously feature Attila the Hun, leader of the Hunnic Empire, and his one million horsemen. At the height of his reign, his control stretched from the Ural River to the Rhine River and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea. Eurogamer, which went hands-on with the game, describes how diseases will play a part in the game. The cleaner and healthier a city you have, the less a chance you have of facing disease. The spread of disease will affect player’s soldiers, which will impact their performance in battle. Other features include a region overlay which provides regional details like wealth and disposition, the return of the family tree (a feature missing from Rome II), and dynamic fire, a new weapon which allows buildings to burn and fires to spread.

Total War: Attila is expected to release next year, and we’re certain a press release is on the way. In the meantime, enjoy the above trailer and get ready to welcome Attila into your homes.

Update: The official site for the game is live, check it out and learn more about the latest Total War title.

Update 2: Press release, screenshots, cover art, and concept art after the break.

Update 3: SEGAbits forum member JRcade19 spotted a mention on the SEGA Blog that the game is due for release in 2015 on Windows PC and Mac. An interesting development, given traditionally PC and Mac releases of SEGA titles are years apart.

Alien: Isolation’s Survivor Mode will ship with one map, rest are paid DLC

SEGA has just released the Survivor Mode trailer for Alien: Isolation. SEGA’s survivor mode will have you complete objectives while on a timer and have other conditions like being hunted. The items you grab while doing survivor mode factor into your score, which will be displayed on the leaderboards. I assume less items used, the higher the score.

The only issue now is that, “Isolation will ship with a Survivor Mode demo featuring one playable map.” Yes, you heard that, one map. But don’t worry if you want more, SEGA has said they will be releasing the rest of the maps as paid DLC. Five packs are planned, the first one being released on October 28th and will contain three maps, a new character and new variety of enemy types.

The game comes out October 7th, and three weeks later it will already have paid DLC? This penny pinching DLC is what is hurting the industry and its shameful that SEGA went this route with Alien: Isolation after everyone felt ripped off by Aliens: Colonial Marines.

SEGA announces F2P RPG ‘The World End Eclipse’ made by the Valkyria Chronicles team

Worldecplise
Famitsu reveals that SEGA has a new free-to-play ‘online theater RPG’ video game as they describe it. It will be launched this winter in Japan on the Playstation Vita, mobile and PC. Save data is said to carry over to all three platforms, online servers are also shared meaning cross-platform online play is a possibility.

The game seems to be online only and will have simplified RTS like elements that let you build, explore and fight. Battles are said to be mostly automated with ‘fast-forward and pause buttons’.  I can see this be SEGA’s take on the ever popular Clash of Clans franchise.

Relic removes Game for Windows Live from Dawn of War II and adds dedicated servers

dow2a
Dawn of War II is a Warhammer 40k based RTS that was massively successful when it came out in 2009. To many people’s dismay it used Game of Windows Live as its multiplayer and even with these hurtles it was massively successful. Fans asked for years for the developer Relic Entertainment and its then publisher THQ to remove Microsoft’s Game for Windows Live.

Relic was bought by SEGA in 2013 and with that all their game’s transferred ownership to SEGA. Seems they don’t have plans on abandoning support for older titles since a new update (2.6.0.10216). Not only that, this and its predecessor Dawn of War 1 have now been moved to dedicated servers. This is a big update for the game that fixes a lot of  lag experienced by players.

Game also uses Steamworks for matchmaking, but since the removal of GFWL it will be impossible to unlock achievements, but there will most likely be a update on steam to add Steam achievements in the near future.

SEGA says Gearbox just as involved with marketing Aliens: Colonial Marines

AliensColonialMarines
Seems that the drama never stops for SEGA of America and Gearbox Software, continuing with details on a new court filing by SEGA on September 2nd. According to SEGA’s attorney that despite what Gearbox said about them not being responsible with marketing. SEGA disagreed and stated that they had equal part and would sometimes overstepped their boundaries. SEGA went as far to say that they were kept in the dark about certain promotional decisions.

One of these claims is that Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford wold go to events and state to the press that the demos where “actual gameplay” which of course is false.

SEGA has already admitted to wrong doing and will pay $1.25 million dollars, Gearbox was allowed to join in with SEGA if they would agree to pay a additional $750,000 in the settlement, but it seems they will continue to fight on. According to Gearbox they operated as a contractor and that SEGA had final word on the game and marketing.

Phantasy Star Online 2
has been out for a few years and SEGA is now promoting their next major update titled ‘Episode 3‘ and will launch it this August. The Japanese site 4Gamer recently attended the announcement event and gave us a sneak peek at what to expect in the new update.

One of the coolest changes in the upcoming Episode 3 update is the lobbies will now have different themes. We saw this happen with the  Attack on Titan and Sonic the Hedgehog collaborations.

Windy Valley Beta Restoration Released for Sonic Adventure DX PC (2004)

Back in 1998, our first glimpse of Sonic Adventure showed what would be the first true 3D experience with Sonic and friends. After the game’s release, the level we were told was Windy Valley was nowhere to be found in the final game, instead having been completely reworked before hitting store shelves. Even though shots of the original design were used to advertise the GameCube rerelease Sonic Adventure DX, the original look and feel of Windy Valley became one of the holy grails for Sonic enthusiasts interested in the development process.

After the retrieval of the AutoDemo, work has been performed by several people including many dedicated members of the Sonic Retro community, who have pooled their efforts to get these stages back up and running. Finally, after fifteen years we can witness this one of a kind experience with a mod for the 2004 PC edition of Sonic Adventure DX, with a fully playable beta version of Windy Valley. With recreated graphics and fully functioning camera angles, CorvidDude wants you to jump over to his YouTube video for more information as well as instructions on how to download and install the mod. Special thanks go to CorvidDude, MainMemory, ItsEasyActually, Catley, Melpontro, and many more who were involved with this project.
