Famitsu Reveals – Samurai and Dragons for Vita

Today Famitsu revealed news about a new Sega game for the PlayStation Vita, the game titled Samurai and Dragons. The games chief producer is Masayoshi Kikuchi, a man of high pedigree. Kikuchi was the producer of Yakuza, director of Jet Set Radio and planner of the Panzer Dragoon series which should garner any Sega fans interest.

The game will have two types of game play, the first is a multiplayer dungeon crawler where you team up with three other friends and explore/fight in dungeons (think Phantasy Star Online or Monster Hunter.)

The second half of the game involves city building and resource management similar a strategy game.

Having seen some rather blurry scans, it’s hard to say much about the game. But it seems to be very similar to Sega’s iPad game Kingdoms Conquest, an MMO type game where you join a faction vying for world domination and must battle other factions for control of the land. While I see no indiation that it’ll have that MMO feature from the little info we have I suspect that will be the case.

SEGA’s girly golf game for Vita gets leaked early

SEGA is apparently working on a girly golf game for Vita called “@Field”. The game was leaked by Amazon.co.jp.

The game isn’t all about mini golfing, it will also combine pinball elements into the game. The girls in the games aren’t really girls, they are called dolls. You will be able to customize them, to dress them the way you want.

There will be a mission mode that promises over 100 missions. Rewards for clearing missions include costumes and new fields to play with. There is an edit mode where you can make your own fields and share them with friends via ad-hoc mode or wifi. Sadly is unclear right now if there is online play, we will probably get this info when the game is formally announced.

@Field is coming out this Winter in Japan, priced at ¥3,990. No Western announcements has been made (duh), it doesn’t seem like a title that would be brought over though.

Super Monkey Ball Vita allows you to create a level by taking a photo

SEGA said that the newly announce Super Monkey Ball Vita would be using the PSP’s camera, but never said how. The latest TGS trailer gives us a glimpse on one thing you can use the camera for, creating levels. If you watch the trailer towards the end, they take a picture of a banana and the game makes a course out of it.

As for what you can do with the levels, if there will be online sharing like LittleBigPlanet and if you can have more specific tools is not known. But its a pretty cool feature, hopefully its not half baked ideas like Monkey Fight and Racing on Super Monkey Ball 3D.

Super Monkey Ball for Playstation Vita officially announced

So we already know that Super Monkey Ball (aka it doesn’t have an official name yet) is coming for the Playstation Vita. Don’t fear, we have some new info and a trailer (look above you!)

  • AiAi, MeeMee, Baby and GonGon all set to return.
  • Will support tilt functions, front/back touch or dual analog sticks for controls.
  • Multiplayer to support up to four players via wifi.
As for release date, all SEGA has said is that it is coming out in 2012. Who is excited for another Super Monkey Ball game?

SEGA teases upcoming Valkyria Chronicles news

We are slowly heading into next month, which will be the month SEGA Japan shows off titles at the Tokyo Game Show… now all of a sudden they are teasing news on their site? Shocking? This time last year they started teasing Valkyria Chronicles 3 for the PSP. What do you think it is this time?

There is one small issue, the site says its a ‘small update’. This probably wouldn’t be a new game. Maybe an art book? How about Valkyria Chronicles 3 extended for Vita? Yeah, that would rock.

Virtua Tennis on Playstation Vita has exclusive content

Just like its Playstation 3 big brother, the Playstation Vita port coming around the launch of the new handheld, will have exclusive content. Here is a trailer showing it off and some details.

  • Touch Controls: Consoles had motion, this version has touch. Regular and touch controls will always be on together, so you can use both at the same time.
  • Touch Vs. Mode: A top down versus match against another player, played on a single Vita system.
  • VR Match Mode: Virtual Reality or ‘First Person’ view tennis will use the Vita’s gyroscopes for movements.
  • Rock The Boat minigame: Test your skill as you hit targets on a rocking boat.
  • Camera (augmented reality): Details on how SEGA will use augmented reality have not been detailed. But we do see the cameras at work in the create a character, with ‘face scanning’. Nice.

So if you haven’t picked up Virtua Tennis 4 on consoles, this might be one of the best options. Though, I don’t know how much I will use touch controls myself.

SEGA trademarks the name Shining Blade

SEGA is still making Shining games, their last entry was the PSP title Shining Hearts, so don’t be shocked if you see Shining Blade announced for the Playstation Vita. Of course, all Shining games have stayed exclusive to Japan.

As for more information on the title we don’t know. I guess it might be announced next month at TGS.

SEGA has two games coming for Vita’s launch

Mike Hayes has confirmed that SEGA is planning on having 2 titles ready to release at Playstation Vita’s launch. One of the games is obviously the Virtua Tennis 4 port.

“On Vita, we can came out pretty early on and said we were going to give support to the hardware.

And we will have at least two titles at the launch of Vita. When exactly that’s going to be of course, we don’t know, but we’re assuming it’s going to be by the end of the Sony financial year, we guess, so we’ve got that.” – Mike Hayes, CEO of SEGA West

I would think it might be another port. I would not mind Valkyria Chronicles 3 for the West with trophies.

Rumor: SEGA working on Phantasy Star Victory?

Seems that SEGA developer Kenichi Tanase might have let slip the title of the next Phantasy Star game on twitter. He says the next game will be called Phantasy Star Victory.

Since Phantasy Star Portable (PSP) was for the Playstation Portable (PSP), people are assuming that Phantasy Star Victory (PSV) will be on the Playstation Vita (PSV). Chances seem high, SEGA has already confirmed it’s working on 5 titles for the portable.

SEGA opens up a new UK studio, working on PSVita game

Only a month or so ago after revealing that SEGA were planning a major expansion for their British based developer The Creative Assembly, the publisher today announced a new studio being set up in Solihull in the West Midlands of England and that they’re developing a new game for the Playstation Vita. If that location sounds familiar to some of you, it will be because this was were the ill-fated SEGA Racing Studio was once based. Indeed SEGA’s Gary Dunn, VP of product development for SEGA West confirmed that some members of the original team will be working in this new studio. He also went on to confirm that prior to this announcement, the group SEGA retain had been working under the banner of SEGA Technology Group. Virtua Tennis coming to Playstation Vita

If you watched Sony’s press conference, you would know that the Playstation Vita is the name of the next gen PSP. In the conference Sony showed off this montage trailer. If you fast forward it to 2:17, you will see a tennis game.

This looks just like Virtua Tennis franchise we all know and love. Its not out of the question for this type of game to be on a handheld. I think the arcade style of VT would do really well on the Playstation Vita and other portables. Shoot, SEGA agreed when back in 2005 the PSP got its own Virtua Tennis game called “Virtua Tennis: World Tour”.

I would say chances are good that this is a Playstation Vita Virtua Tennis games.

SEGA just sent out the press release for this. This is a port of Virtua Tennis 4 and is confirmed to be a launch title.
