Sonic CD Teaser Trailer

Well here’s an interesting trailer! They introduce the trailer with a Sonic 4 sprite running into a Past sign and turning back into the Sonic CD sprite! Is it just a gimmick or some kind of hint towards the direction of Sonic 4 Episode 2? Hard to say!

It has been confirmed that Sonic CD will use the Japanese/Euro version of the sound track, which is a good thing! Apparently this isn’t an emulated port but it actually runs on a fan made engine called ‘The Retro Engine’ developed by someone going by the name ‘The Taxman’. That doesn’t mean much to me but by the reaction of the Sonic fans it’s a good thing and so long as Backbone isn’t involved that’s a plus judging by their previous port work for Sega.

Sonic CD will be available for XBLA, PSN, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad™, Windows PC Digital Download, Android and Windows Phone and will be available for download in late 2011.

I also read something about looping sound tracks and ‘Sonic 2 spindash or CD style.’ Which I’m sure means something to someone…

Renegade Ops: Upgrade Trailer

A brand new trailer for Sega and Avalanche Studios new IP, Renegade Ops!

Renegade Ops is a throw back to the great vehicle shooters of old like Jackle and Desert Strike, only now with awesome HD graphics and all the other bells and whistles like online 4-player Co-Op and 2 Player split screen! I think the game looks awesome myself, this trailer primarily focuses on the upgrades and perks you can use to boost your vehicles performance but it’s the online multiplayer Co-Op and combo system that have really got me excited to get my hands on this game, not to mention it’s on Steam, always a good call!

Renegade Ops will be available on XBLA, PSN and Steam on September 12, 2011. Don’t miss it!

Renegade Ops joins new PSN program called “PSN Play”

Sony just announced a new ‘annual’ program they will be launching called “PSN Play”. Basically if you pre-order a ‘PSN Play’ title, you will receive a free PSN theme. If you purchase the title before a date (this time around it’s September 19th) you will get a free piece of DLC for that game.

But, if you get all of the ‘PSN Play’ titles, you will get  a free unreleased game. This time around if you buy all four titles above by September 19th, you will get Payday: The Heist for free. If you have Playstation Plus, you get 20% off on top of that.  Do want. Renegade Ops is out September 13th on PSN.

Renegade Ops Game Mode trailer is fantastic

When I first heard that SEGA was going to publish Renegade Ops, I cringed. Just hearing the title made me think of a generic shooting game. But after watching this new trailer, I’m pretty damn excited.

The graphics are pretty impressive for a downloadable title: especially the effects, like the explosions.  Plus that 4 player online co-op could be damn fun.

Virtua Tennis 4 Move demo hits PSN today

SEGA already released a Virtua Tennis 4 demo right before PSN went down. That demo didn’t have Move support, they promised that in the upcoming months they would release a Move demo for the game. Now its been months, they plan on delivering today.

SEGA has released two demos on PSN and a mini game on Playstation Home. I hope the game sells enough on PS3 to make up for the exclusive content. (including 2 players, 2 mini games being exclusive).

Streets of Rage 2 Arrives on PSN+

Axel, Blaze (not the cat) and friends are back in Sega’s next free Genesis game for PSN+ subscribers. Those with a PSN+ account or who are on the one month free “welcome back” plan can download it right now. If you are only on a temporary plan though, you will need to fork over $4.99 if you plan to keep playing a month from now. Exclusive to the PSN version are trophies and online scoreboards.

Takashi Iizuka confirms Sonic 4: Episode 2

The guys over at Siliconera had a chance to ask Iizuka if Sonic Team is planning a follow up to Sonic 4: Episode 1, in which he responded:

“We named Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, so there will be an episode 2. Since this year is the 20th anniversary of Sonic we wanted to focus on Sonic Generations. We don’t have a release date or anything. But, we can tell you it will be in the near future.”” – Takashi Iizuka

Near future? Iizuka and his love for time traveling plots. In all seriousness, it seems that Sonic Generations is getting the physics for cassic Sonic right. Would be interested if the physics being used in Generations will be used in Episode 2.

Sony dates rest of the Genesis PSN releases

Awhile back SEGA announced it would be releasing a collection of SEGA Genesis titles, mostly titles already out on XBLA.  If you are a Playstation Plus subscriber, these games where free. But since only Sonic and Sonic 2 have been released, when will the rest?

Playstation Plus:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Mar 1 – June 14 (out now obviously)
  • Streets of Rage 2: June 14 –July 12
  • Golden Axe 2: July 12 – August 9
  • Comix Zone: August 9 – September 6
  • Altered Beast: September 6 – October 4

If you don’t have Playstation Plus, here is the regular schedule. Playstation Plus basically get the games a week early.

PSN returns & has SEGA Rally Online Arcade up for purchase

Well, the game is already out for XBLA. What about PSN? Its out now. Like right now. The PSN store just got updated and came back online. Though its being slammed hard by traffic.

The game is $9.99, a bargain for the goodness you will be getting. Also new is the SEGA Genesis Dynamic Theme that is exclusive to PS+ users. Feels good man.

Check out the SEGA Rally Online Arcade trailer

Check that out! What a great trailer for Sega Rally Online Arcade! It’s quirky, it’s fun… It sums up the simple joy of SEGA Rally a treat!

Sega Rally Online Arcade is out NOW on XBLA and PSN (The Playstation Store is still down) for only 800 MS Points it’s a bloody steal, Awesome!

SEGA: No plans for a full SEGA Rally brand revival

With SEGA announcing SEGA Rally Online Arcade for Xbox Live and PSN, the he question from fans has been; is SEGA trying to revive the brand and release a new console version of the game like 2007’s SEGA Rally Revo?

“Sega constantly wrestles with what existing IP we should try and reignite. We did a pretty good job with Sega Rally back in 2007, but it came out at a time when the consumer was moving away from driving games in general. There’s a bit of a resurgence in those games – I’ve got to say Codemasters did a brilliant job with F1 2010, it was first-class – and therefore, is it a viable market? We’re constantly looking at it.”

“Have we got any plans for Sega Rally on any platform at the moment? The answer is no. But we constantly review those IPs to see if we can reinvent them. A lot of it is dependent on what those platforms can do. And of course the cost of development.” – Mike Hayes, SEGA West CEO

It is too bad to see, but at least we are getting a digital title for now. One of the complaints for SEGA Rally Revo was that it didn’t have enough content for most racing fans, so maybe releasing the franchise as a XBLA/PSN title is a smarter choice.
