Retro SEGA characters to be in Neptune

Do you guys remember Neptune? The console war RPG game being published by SEGA in Japan? Well it has been confirmed that retro SEGA characters will make cameo appearance. What characters? No idea, yet.

The ‘listing’ in Game Star website says resurrect retro SEGA characters; so I would not be counting Sonic and the gang to return. Someone that has not been back in awhile… humm…

If that was not enough, it also talks about a new photo feature. You can take pictures from your Playstation 3 photo album and use them during battles and to customize your clothing. Interesting indeed.

Shenmue and Jet Set Radio XBLA leaks look busted

You saw us post them as a rumor, that both Shenmue and Jet Set Radio were coming to XBLA. There have  been numerous PartnerNet leaks, newest one being Crazy Taxi, but this one came from a shady source who calls himself the XBOX360LEAKER.

Not only that, other people that have PartnerNet can’t seem to find traces of Jet Set Radio or Shenmue on the services. When users on NeoGAF contacted “XBOX360LEAKER” he said he got the games off of “Test Net”, a service that does not exist. Even worse, he left traces of his photoshop work behind on his ImageShack account.

I think he took advantage of all the news about Dreamcast leaks, decided to play on some classics that fans wanted. A shame really.

The Last Boss: The Magician

Welcome to the first ever ‘The Last Boss’, where I’ll be covering a different Sega Boss Character/Fight each article. It’s something I hope to do on a semi-regular basis, and as you well know there are a lot of unique and great ones to cover. In an ironic fashion, lets dive into the First Last Boss, The House of the Dead series’ Magician.

The Magician, like all other bosses in the House of the Dead Series (barring Overkill) is named after a Tarot Card. In Tarot cards, the Magician is representative of ‘creation by willpower and desire’. In the House of the Dead Games, he is representative of lots of fireballs and repeatedly inserting more money into the machine as he kills you again and again. And again.

New Gain Ground game announced

Do you guys remember Gain Ground? Its that one game that SEGA keeps on putting in those Genesis/Mega Drive compilations and you ask yourself why they do it. Well, now they are making a new entry to the franchise, mobile only and in Japan. Guess the title? Gain Ground Again.

The game comes out today (or yesterday, don’t know the date in Japan). Gain Ground Again lets you team up with other users, much like the older counter part. We have screens of the game below, not too impressive graphically.

Rumor: Jet Set Radio coming to XBLA

Oh, silly Microsoft and their PartnerNet stuff has leaked another gem. This time Jet Set Radio. Hopefully we get it in true widescreen and some nice upscaling. How about take advantage of the second joystick?

Goozex adds SEGA Genesis and SEGA CD trading

Anyone here can tell you that I love Goozex. It basically lets you trade in games you never play, for points that you use on Goozex to get other games. So you never really trade a game for a game. It has a 100% guarantee and no one rips you on shipping (like ebay).

“Since we launched our site in 2006, a frequently asked question has been about adding classic game system titles to our service. We’re happy to say that we are going to meet that demand. Our focus has been to become the best in online game trading and adding retro titles to our service helps maintain that vision. Like many of our members, we’re excited about trading classic games from the titles that started it all!” –Jonathan Dugan, COO and co-founder of Goozex

The site already had SEGA Dreamcast trading, so adding SEGA Genesis and SEGA CD is makes me very happy. All we need is SEGA Saturn. Since its my post, I can put a referral link to sign up.

SEGA Genesis games coming to Xbox’s Game Room?

Microsoft has launched their Game Room, with mixed views; but after trying it myself it is rather good (could use better selection of games). Seems that the developers have sprinkled some clues of what will  coming, one of the teasers is Mega Drive/Genesis titles?

I mean, there is only one console that has a controller like SEGA’s Mega Drive/Genesis, it had a very unique look. Also, its not like SEGA does not like releasing Genesis/Mega Drive games over and over again. I can see this happening, now give us Toe Jam & Earl!

Dreamcast + Millennium Falcon = Awesome

SEGA mods are the best, but what about a SEGA and Star Wars mod? Holy crap, that sounds amazing. Someone has just done that, its as if they divided by zero. “Pezzapoo” from the Ben Heck forums has put a Dreamcast into a Millennium Falcon toy.

“As soon as I saw these caricature versions of the Star wars toys I thought about the Dreamcast and how the fun little console would feel right at home inside one. Strangely the DC game port facia fitted directly into the toy with about a mill to spare so I knew it was meant to be! Two side docking ring fans keep the hot DC from melting. Lots of soldering and the switch was added to turn on the GDROM. No paint was applied.”

Now I wonder what else we can shove a Dreamcast into?

Retro Review: Shining Force III Trilogy

Shining Force III is a game that had many Saturn owners wishing that they could speak fluent Japanese. Considered to be one of, if not the best game on Sega Saturn, only one third of the full story ever saw an English translation. While most fans will already know this, the Shining Force III that most westerners are familiar with is only a fraction of an intricate trilogy of games, a true epic in every sense of the word. Three different scenarios, three different stories, all intertwining and combining to form an intricate, sprawling story and game. Recently however, thanks to the hard work of some very dedicated and skilled fans, almost every part of every game has been translated finally allowing the game’s English speaking fan base to enjoy the game as it was intended. So, how does it hold up over a decade later?
