SEGA Channel Retro: Sonic 06 Unity Demo Today

Sonic 06 has gone down as one of the blue hedgehog’s more divisive adventures. But like it or not some dedicated fans have gone through the trouble to recreate the game in the Unity engine. I’ll be checking it out on today’s shorter stream.

SEGA Channel Retro Stream Highlights: A Brief History on David Gonterman

Thanks to Sonic Retro‘s David the Lurker, who is so steeped in Sonic the Hedgehog lore that he is writing Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3 and named the island seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, we present to you a highlight from a SEGA Channel Retro stream in which David the Lurker regaled the listeners with a brief history on David Gonterman.

Who is David Gonterman? Why he is only the most famous Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction writer of the mid to late 1990s. He has written several crossover stories involving Sonic, Power Rangers, Doctor Who and Sailor Moon, and has injected himself into the action. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Watch the video above to learn more of this strange period in Sonic history.

Retro Community Day Returns with Sonic Transformed on PC this Saturday

SonicTransformed

Once upon a time, Sonic Retro hosted the Retro Community Day where everyone came to play games with us and the community and just be our general goofy selves. This weekend we’re bringing it back with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on PC/Steam this Saturday at 5PM Central. Send your friend request on Steam to my (Bartman3010) account, which I conveniently named SEGA Channel Retro and watch for an invite to come play with us! We’ll be livestreaming the event to record my great feats. Or is that me getting horribly beaten? In any case, send in your requests early and come see us this weekend!

The Dreamroom Dreamcast Marathon returns on Tuesday 9/9 at 9am ET at SEGA Channel Retro

dreamroom2014

From 2009 to 2011 at The Dreamcast Junkyard, I hosted the Dreamroom – a SEGA Dreamcast marathon celebrating the console’s memorable American launch date. Since 2011, however, the Dreamroom remained locked. I knew I wanted to host another, but I was busy with work and my increasing duties at SEGAbits. Not to mention, I didn’t think aiming a webcam at the TV cut it as a live stream anymore.

This year, however, I’m excited to announce that the Dreamroom is reopening on 9/9 at 9am ET at the SEGA Channel Retro Twitch channel for a special 9 hour marathon of Dreamcast games streaming directly from the console! Yes, I’ve finally caught up with streaming technology.

Hope to see SEGAbits and DCJY readers new and old there as we celebrate 15 years of the SEGA Dreamcast!
