First ever screens of Sonic the Hedgehog

June 7th, 1990, SEGA showed off Sonic the Hedgehog to the public at the Tokyo Game Show.  When they showed it, the game was 2 months into development. So what they showed was very early.

Above is one of the first screens ever shown to the public and you can tell much has changed. First of all the background, from its odd city and mountains was changed in the final product. Though, regardless of stuff being changed, the art style and vision seemed to be there from day one.  The other screen that 1up had was the early title screen, which looks a lot like the original only without the Green Hill Zone backdrop.

Virtua Fighter 5R getting classic SEGA console items

Even though SEGA is preparing for the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, does not mean it will stop adding stuff to Virtua Fighter 5R. SEGA updated VF5R this month, with classic SEGA consoles.

The image above shows the prices of the consoles, which can be used on your characters back. The prices for the in game items are the same price as the real consoles when they launched in Japan. Of course, you buy the consoles with in-game currency.  Make Akira look like Segata, with a Saturn on his back? Brilliant!

SEGA 16-bit console war dog tags

SEGA used “Pirate TV” as a advertising campaign for the SEGA Mega Drive (US: Genesis) in Britain. The dog tag above was given to a UKR reader by SEGA during a event to try out the Mega CD  and Sonic 2.

This is where I talk about how in my day, console wars where fought on the playground, not behind a computers.  You get the idea.

SEGA Genesis games coming to Xbox’s Game Room?

Microsoft has launched their Game Room, with mixed views; but after trying it myself it is rather good (could use better selection of games). Seems that the developers have sprinkled some clues of what will  coming, one of the teasers is Mega Drive/Genesis titles?

I mean, there is only one console that has a controller like SEGA’s Mega Drive/Genesis, it had a very unique look. Also, its not like SEGA does not like releasing Genesis/Mega Drive games over and over again. I can see this happening, now give us Toe Jam & Earl!
