SEGA Australia’s crazy pitch for remaking SEGA classics

GoldenAxeSEGAReborn
[Above is SEGA Australia’s pre-alpha prototype pitch for Golden Axe remake under their label ‘SEGA Reborn’]

SEGA Australia isn’t known as the type of studio that had too many hits, but it seemed that the team was finally hitting their stride with the Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse remake that is coming out in early September. Sadly that will be the studio’s last game, since it was announced that they will be closing by the end of the year.

Seems that the studio pitched for a series of remakes, most notably ‘Golden Axe’ and all to be in a new label called ‘SEGA Reborn’. That’s not all though, the company thought that all these classics should take place in the same universe. Yes, we are talking about Marvel movie treatment with retro games. That would mean that a game like Out Run takes place hundreds of years after Golden Axe.

Much like its remake of Castle of Illusion, they where open to going in and adding new content and fixing issues the originals had. Some of the other games they talked about remaking included Streets of Rage and Shinobi. Hit the jump to see video of the ‘Golden Axe’ remake that the studio pitched to SEGA.

CastleRetro
SEGA has finally announced the released date for Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, it will be released worldwide on September 3rd, 2013 for PSN and September 4th on Xbox Live/PC digital download. The game will cost you $14.99.

But wait, if you pre-order the game via Playstation Network (USA only) from August 20th (in 3 days!) to September 2nd you will get the original SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive version for free, a free dynamic theme and three avatars. You don’t even have to wait, right when you pre-order you will be able to play the Genesis game. Pretty sweet deal.

So what platform are you getting this game on?

15 minutes of Castle of Illusion gameplay

Game Informer have gotten their hands on a review copy of the upcoming Castle of Illusion remake and were allowed to put up a video of them playing through the first world. Along with the gameplay we also got some new details including that we can expect the game in early September and that the voice of Sully from the Uncharted series, Richard McGonagle is narrating the game. Sadly this video doesn’t feature the redone soundtrack by Grant Kirkhope.

SEGA has recently filed a claim with Delaware US Bankruptcy court, saying that THQ owes them 941,710.93 for Steam pre-orders on Company of Heroes 2.

The claim says there were 20,755 pre-orders registered on Steam between September 2012 to January 24, 2013 that made the company $1.3 million in revenue, leaving $941k figure after Valve’s 30% cut. Also seems that Valve paid THQ $508,877.85 on December 19, 2012.

If you guys didn’t know, SEGA bought Relic and all its software catalog for a reported $26 million dollars. According to Eurogamer, this will be piled up on over $200 million dollars worth of debt that the company owes.

Aliens: Colonial Marines gets a massive 4GB patch

SEGA & Gearbox Software have released a patch for the PC version of Aliens: Colonial Marines, the patch promises to improve textures, fix bugs, and much more. Personally I installed the game, did what I had to do for our review and uninstalled it. I don’t see myself playing through it again with a new patch. Sorry SEGA, you should have gotten it right the first time.

But if you want to try it, load up steam and enjoy downloading the patch. If you look at the YouTube video, it seems that the improvements are minimal.
