Vanquish Second Demo: ‘Challenge mode’ Available! [update]

You can now download the second Vanquish demo from the Japanese Xbox Live Arcade and Japanese PSN.  So if you haven’t already you need to make a Japanese account.

This is as simple as creating a new XBLA or PSN profile and setting your location to Japan.

This new demo dubbed ‘Challenge mode’ is made specifically for the ‘core’ gamers and the name pretty much sums it up. You must survive 5 waves of enemies and do it in the quickest time with the most points.

From what I have read around other forums some people are finding it hard just to finish! But that wont be a problem for us hardened Sega gamers right?!

[Update] Turns out it is XBLA Gold account only so unless you have a Japanese gold account you are screwed.

Vanquish preview video (Spoiler warning)

This preview is in Italian… Thought I’d get that out of the way early. So unless you understand Italian you won’t take much away from the spoken preview.

But I think this is article worthy none the less. Simply for the sheer amount of new game play and cut scenes. Be warned, it may well contain a high level of spoilers. So if you don’t want possible plot spoilers, stay away! But I’ll tell you this, this game looks truly amazing.

Second Vanquish demo incoming

Vanquish director Shinji Mikami and producer Atsushi Inaba announced at TGS that they will be having a second demo for their game on Xbox Live and PSN. When? September 22nd. This demo will be called “Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo”.

This second demo is suppose to be for the hardcore fanbase, thus it will be more difficult.  The date is obviously for Japan, no dates for the U.S. or Europe, but if we have a repeat with the last demo announcement, we will probably get it a few days earlier than Japan. I hope!

Vanquish – Tokyo Game Show Story Trailer

“The end of San Francisco is the beginning of a race against time to ensure that New York doesn’t follow suit.
War has accelerated. This is VANQUISH.”

Another fantastic trailer from Tokyo Game Show. This new Vanquish trailer focuses mainly on the story behind the madness that is Vanquish. Be warned it could possibly hold a few spoilers.

There is still more then enough game play to get your juices flowing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this cannot come soon enough.

I’m getting this game day one.

Vanquish – Fan Made Trailer

Here is a trailer for Vanquish made by a fan, it is comprised solely of game play found in the recently released Demo. (Available on XBLA and PSN.)

Not only is it a pretty cool trailer, but it should give you some pretty good ideas and tips on how to play Vanquish creatively. It sure made me want to boot up the demo again and give some of these moves a try!

SEGA TGS: 3 unannounced game slots!

SEGA will be streaming their press conferences via UStream, thus they have a schedule. You know, so you can call in sick at work to watch Nagoshi pimp out some Yakuza games. But that is not all, there are three press conferences that say ‘coming soon’.

One of those ‘coming soon’ confrences lands on September 16th and if you saw that Valkyria Chronicles 3 teaser last time, you will know it said “Not to be open till 9.16”.

My guess is that the three games will be Valkyria Chronicles 3, Red Entertainment’s newest project (Sakura Wars 6?) and Sakai’s PSO 10th anniversary project (PSO2?). Hit the jump for the Ustream schedule.

Vanquish Limited Edition comes with figurine

Sadly this limited edition has only been shown for the UK shop Zavvie. No collectors edition has been announced for the United States or Japan as of yet.

The limited edition comes at a price though, it will cost £54.95, the regular edition will only be costing £33.95, its almost double. So those who want the pretty box and the doll (don’t hate) will have to cough up some extra dough.

[Thanks: Ali]

Vanquish story trailer

This awesome new story trailer for Vanquish has got me right pumped!

To be quite honest I haven’t really been looking forward to the story of Vanquish I suspected it might be a bit of a throw away story to help set up the mad situations the main character may find himself in. Like Bayonetta. I’m in love with the game play in demo though.

However now, after this frankly very cool trailer, I’m excited for both. Bring on Vanquish!

VANQUISH Demo: 360 vs. PS3 build

The boys over at Digital Foundry have their hands full again, this time they sat down to judge the VANQUISH demo that came out the other day. They have confirmed this is ‘early code’ demo. .

“The key difference seems to be that the Xbox 360 goes for a conventional capped 30FPS, double-buffer approach (losing v-sync when dropping under the target frame-rate in order to maintain fluidity) whereas the PS3 game employs triple-buffering, effectively ensuring that there is not a single torn frame any time during the gameplay experience.”

Both versions run at 1024×720, with 2x multi-sampling anti-aliasing. They also say that the Xbox 360 version felt easier to control. I guess this is a personal preference since users on NeoGAF have reported the opposite.

Seems that the game will run great on both consoles, so breath easy my friends!

SEGA’s TGS 2010 line-up confirmed

SEGA has let their ‘official’ line up out of the bag, of course, they have a surprise or two they don’t want to reveal yet. This is their ‘expect to be there’ and playable games.

  • Vanquish (PS3/360)
  • Virtual On Force (360)
  • Sonic Colors (Wii/DS)
  • Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (PSP)
  • Black Panther New Yakuza  Chapter (PSP)
  • Shining Hearts (PSP)
  • K-On After School Live (PSP)

Of course they will most likely have a new Phantasy Star related product (anniversary game?) and for sure the new Yakuza PS3 game.

Vanquish demo up on XBOX Live

As of now the US Vanquish Demo is up on XBOX Live. Go download the demo and tell us what you think! Gold members only. The download clocks in at just under 500MB. The PS3 demo should be up later today whenever Sony decides to update PSN.

PSN usually updates in the afternoon, so don’t expect it up anytime soon.

Vanquish features suicide and M rating

ESRB has agreed and given Vanquish the M rating, for Mature audiences only. I was a bit shocked, since Mikami said he wanted to make the game about killing robots, if Halo is not rated M, why would this game?

I guess human soldiers can be killed, when they are killed or blown up, there is blood (and limbs). They also revealed that some cutscenes will have violence and one even has a random character committing suicide. As they say, assassinating himself.

Vanquish demo coming September 2nd

It seems that the Vanquish demo has been confirmed for PSN and Xbox Live on September 2nd. Only issue? Its for the Japanese store only, that this has been confirmed.

Not a big issue seeing as the game does not seem to have that much dialogue. Get your Japanese accounts ready!
