Media Create Sales: Vanquish first chart appearance

We posted the first day sales for Vanquish a few days ago and sadly the weekly charts didn’t change a whole lot. The charts ended on October 24th and the game came out in Japan on October 21st. That is about 4 days to sell.

  • Vanquish PS3: 48,318 (4th place)
  • Vanquish 360: 11.204 (14th place)

That is about the same as the first day numbers of 47k on PS3 and 9k on Xbox 360. I hope that the game continues selling next week on this pace, but it doesn’t seem like it will. Damn shame.

Hayes says early Vanquish sales are encouraging

We already know how Vanquish did on its first day in Japan, but what about the America? Mike Hayes seems pretty positive.

“It’s been in the marketplace for two days, we’ve seen the day one numbers and we’re reasonably encouraged, but I think we need to see the rest of week one and probably week two just to see how it’s going to play out

“The challenge is that it’s a new franchise and that it’s releasing head-to-head with a lot of established franchises in the busiest time of the year.” – Mike Hayes CEO SEGA West

Vanquish came out on October 19th in North America, comes out tomorrow in Europe. Also, IGN gave us a shout out on this article, check the source link.

Aliens vs Predator coming to PSN?

So i’m flipping through the manual of Vanquish, looking for whatever I can find. I look at the back to see if there is more artwork and see this AvP ad. I didn’t think much at first, then I saw that it was ‘Available To Download On Playstation Network’.

So I went to the Playstation Store and checked, it isn’t on there. I guess it will be on there and they rushed it to printing. So, fair warning, if you want a digital copy of the game, its coming. If you work at making manuals for SEGA, learn release schedules.

Vanquish first day Japanese sales are in

The first day sales for Vanquish are in and seem rather low. They aren’t a total failure, but I sort of assumed it would beat a Naruto game.

  • Vanquish PS3: 47,000 units
  • Vanquish 360: 9,000 units

Hopefully they sell more copies this whole week. For reference, the Naruto game on PS3 sold 72,000 copies and 13,000 on Xbox 360. I guess its too much to outsell a big anime IP like Naruto.

Bayonetta’s first day sales in Japan where much more positive, selling 93,000 on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 version selling 45,000 units. A Bayonetta size hit this game is not, at least in Japan.

Vanquish: 360 vs. PS3 face-off

[PS3/360]

Seems that Platinum Games has finally delivered one of their titles that plays great on both consoles. Eurogamer said it was hard to really see the difference between the consoles and only thing they found was shadowing differences.

“In terms of graphical differences between the two games, it’s fair to say that there aren’t any of real significance – certainly nothing that might affect a purchasing decision: both run at 1024×720 resolution with 2x multi-sampling anti-aliasing (MSAA)…. only issue we did notice on a consistent basis was a difference in shadowing, which seems to favour PS3. In these shots you can see shadowing that’s either omitted completely or else suffering from “shadow acne” on the 360.”

So whatever console you bought it on, you are safe. No Bayonetta effect this time around, just pure gameplay bliss. Performance is a mix bag, but seriously, if you liked how the demo performed, no issues.

Vanquish – Launch Trailer

“Out this Friday 22nd in Europe, Shinji Mikami’s latest offering from the Platinum Games studio. Without provocation the Earth plunges into a new and ferocious war. A war that will only be won by those with the technological edge – an edge like the A.R.S battlesuit.

Fight, survive and claim vengence for the lost.
War has accelerated. This is VANQUISH.

-SEGA

This trailer looks awesome, the game looks awesome.
Go now… Buy Vanquish.

I’ll finish this post with a quote from the Euro gamer review;

“Vanquish is a trailblazer. It is a game of astounding creativity and polish, exhilarating on the ground in the moment-to-moment thrills of high-speed-to-slow-motion combat, as well as in its wider, twisting trajectory. Doubtless the best third-person shooter ever to come out of Japan, Vanquish builds on Western developers’ triumphs to push the genre in new, interesting directions, shifting the balance of power, and cementing Shinji Mikami’s position as one of the best directors working in videogames today.

DVD could have caused Vanquish content cuts

It is no secret that Vanquish used Playstation 3 as a lead platform, it also isn’t a secret to gamers that Sony uses bluray discs for their games. According to Atsushi Inaba, they almost cut content out of the game, so they could fit in on a DVD disc.

“But just speaking of media, since Xbox 360 still uses DVD, for games like Vanquish that have a lot of data in one disc and lots of voice over, it’s a bit hard to compress everything in one disc. That is the only complaint I have.

We thought we might have to do that [cut content] during the development but in the end we were able to fit everything in the DVD. So there’s nothing we had to cut.”

As for what version to get, Inaba states that both versions will be idititical and seeing the early demos they showed, I have to agree. It is hard to tell the difference between both versions. Read more of Eurogamer’s interview with Inaba right here.

Game Informer: Vanquish Campaign lasts only 4 hours

Game Informer gave Vanquish a 7.75 out of 10. No idea what the difference between a 7.75 and a 8 is on their scale, but seems like its a ‘good game’ with some flaws, according to them.

Platinum Game’s Kellam tweets otherwise, concerning the 4 hour single player campaign:

“GameInformer: “Don’t be surprised if you finish your first playthrough in four hours.” Really? Because it would surprise the hell out of us.”

Some being recycled bosses, short  campaign and unimpressive weapons. Oh yes, they also mock the characters, I don’t think they understand the type of game Vanquish is suppose to be. Its suppose to be one of those games you replay over and over to get the highest score in the levels, just like Bayonetta.

Lets hope most users and other media don’t miss the point of the game when they review it.

HYPE: Famitsu gives Vanquish near perfect score

Even though everyone dislikes Famitsu, it is the second magazine to review the game and its another positive hit for SEGA and Platinum Games. The magazine gave the game a 9/9/10/9. Famitsu has four people give a score and adds it up for a total. The game got a 37, three points shy from getting a perfect score.

The first review for the game was done by PLAY UK, which gave the title a 93 out of 100. They stated “Vanquish is about as good as action gaming can get.” Get hyped, Vanquish launches in the end of the month, worldwide.

Vanquish – Weapons Trailer

“Your enemies are many, your weapons are too. Take them out with flair, guile, skill, with no mercy!”

Boy, does this game look really good or what?!
I don’t think there is much left to say about this game other than ‘day one!’

I really love the outcome of the Sega and Platinum deal. So far Platinum has made the kind of games that got me into Sega in the first place. Fast paces, different, addictive and unashamed to acknowledge they are games not ’Interactive movies’. I hope the deal continues.

Release Date: 10/19/2010
