Virtual-On 4 Force for XBLA?

Someone, somewhere has discovered something awesome, Sega have recently registered a new websites.

http://vo-force360.sega.jp

Currently the site isn’t ‘working’ there is nothing on it, but the URL already gives away some interesting clues as to what’s going down.

Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram sold well on XBLA and it was recently revealed that the game is indeed profitable. So it only makes sense to bring more Virtual-On too the service.

Roll on Virtual-On 4 Force! This is actually the 3rd game in the series not the 4th as you may think from the title. The 4 in the title actually stands for something far, far cooler! Because in VO 4 Force you can play 4 player! As far as I can remember this is a 2vs2 affair.

At the moment we are going to file this under rumour, but even at this point it seems fairly likely.

Virtua On XBLA reaches sales target

SEGA has recently closed the Virtua On Blog, with an update by Yasushi Yamashita, who said that the game has reached SEGA’s targeted sales goal. He did not say how much it sold, just that it has sold far more than the ‘rumored’ sales figures that are floating around (but did not say how much those where either!).

VOOT was already known as a success the moment it came out. Microsoft has announced it was the top selling XBLA game of 2010 and is the second best selling XBLA of all time.

There will be one more post made, after Yamashita’s and then the blog will close for good. Yamashita and the VOOT porting team have moved on to a new project, after the release of the game in April of last year. They then went and worked on the excellent After Burner Climax.

More Sega classics for digital distribution?

It seems like that may be on the cards, in the latest issue of industry weekly MCV, Alan Pritchard, Sega America’s vice president of sales and marketing hinted at just that. While being quizzed on the recent move of SoA to become a more digital focused arm of the company he said,

“There are a number of digital releases that we have slated for the next 12 to 18 months, most of which haven’t been announced yet. As you can imagine, there’s a world of old Sega IP that we can bring to market.”

Other news sites reporting this news have guessed that this could indicate more Sega classics updated in the style of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. However I see no direct indication of this and think it is far more likely that he is talking about ports of arcade and console classics.

*Crosses fingers* Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio! Please!

Shenmue and Jet Set Radio XBLA leaks look busted

You saw us post them as a rumor, that both Shenmue and Jet Set Radio were coming to XBLA. There have  been numerous PartnerNet leaks, newest one being Crazy Taxi, but this one came from a shady source who calls himself the XBOX360LEAKER.

Not only that, other people that have PartnerNet can’t seem to find traces of Jet Set Radio or Shenmue on the services. When users on NeoGAF contacted “XBOX360LEAKER” he said he got the games off of “Test Net”, a service that does not exist. Even worse, he left traces of his photoshop work behind on his ImageShack account.

I think he took advantage of all the news about Dreamcast leaks, decided to play on some classics that fans wanted. A shame really.

Rumour: Shenmue coming to XBLA?

Potentially massive news if true, the person responsible for the Jet Set Radio XBLA rumour is now claiming that Sega’s epic Shenmue may be coming to the service. A photo and his Youtube account back up the claims, but it’s best to take these things with a grain (or dumptruck) of salt until we get official word. Having said that, it does fall in line with Mike Hayes’ recent interview stating that Sega will be looking to increase the amount of games available Digital Download.

Shenmue was the only console specific game directed by the legendary Yu Suzuki, many consider it to be his finest work. The game was planned to have 16 chapters, but only 5 have thus far been covered through Shenmue and Shenmue II. No doubt fans of the game (such as yours truly) would be elated to see Shenmue return in any shape or form.

SEGA fires 73 workers, expanding digital content

SEGA has let go of 73 of its employees today, all part of their business reorganization as they move on focusing on social and digital games. 36 of the employees are from SEGA’s San Francisco branch and 37 from London. SEGA of America is said to be working exclusively on downloadable content int their newly formed digital division, while SEGA of Europe will act as the administrative hub, also handle console and PC games.

“In recent years, digital platforms have taken an increasing share of video gaming revenues and we believe this growth is set to continue, SEGA has already enjoyed commercial success within this new and exciting gaming medium and it is now the company’s intention to fully embrace change and set a strategy not only to maximize revenues within the digital space but, through innovation and quality, take up a leadership position.”

Mike Hayes says this is just Chapter 2 in SEGA’s continued evolution from being a hardware manufacturer.

Leaked Sonic Adventure XBLA footage

Here is someone playing Sonic Adventure on their Xbox 360, yes another leak coming from SEGA. Seems that we already know almost everything about this game and SEGA has not even announced it yet.

As you can see in the video, the game will not support widescreen, the person playing it has it stretched to widescreen. Also the fast forward stuff is by the guy that did the video, we assume.

Rumor: Crazy Taxi coming to XBLA?

Seems that there are a lot of leaks on Microsoft’s PartnerNet and the newest one is a XBLA port of Crazy Taxi. It looks legit and it isn’t really shocking that SEGA would want to bring the game into HD consoles. They did do a PSP port. Not to mention B.D. Joe appearing in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.

This is not the first leak on XBLA for SEGA, we all recall the Sonic Adventure leak and Sonic 4 leaks. The source even has pictures of Quake Arena leak, that should be fun.

Rumor: Sonic 4 leaks lead to PartnerNet closure? [Update]

Update: DMNBT at Sonic Stadium has indicated that PartnerNET is back up;

“Quick update: PartnerNET is back online (actually it has been for a few hours already, I just woke up).”

Read the Original story below:

We all know that a ton of Sonic 4 leaks have happen in the past few months, those leaks came from the Xbox 360; namely their PartnerNet service. What is PartnerNet?

“PartnerNet is the name of the developers-only alternate Xbox Live network used by developers to beta test game content downloads, and games developed for Xbox Live Arcade. PartnerNet runs on Xbox 360 debug kits, which are used both by developers and by the gaming press.”

Seems that SEGA is getting really serious with the leaks. I think Microsoft should (don’t know if they do this) allow an option not to put your work on the PartnerNet network.
