Atlus launches Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary project website

20170110_015435

Atlus’ legendary Shin Megami Tensei series is celebrating 25 years with a new website, that is teasing a new unannounced project. Since Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary logo shows the roman numerals for I through IV with dates, I will assume this new project will be Shin Megami Tensei V. Not to mention the star in the logo also shows five points, so I don’t think its there just for ‘cool design’.

The Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary celebration also spread to the companies’ twitter account and will probably be a huge focus for the Japanese side of the company throughout 2017. What are your guys thoughts on Shin Megami Tensei 25th Anniversary teased project? What do you hope it is? Let us know in the comments below.

Sonic: Mega Drive trade paperback releasing this summer

51t8szdpVlL

Sonic: Mega Drive is fast becoming one of Archie’s most popular Sonic the Hedgehog comics series. Fans enjoy the classic Sonic steeped storytelling of Ian Flynn, the beautiful and hilarious art of Tyson Hesse and of course the colors of Matt Herms and lettering of Jack Morelli. Archie, meanwhile, has enjoyed the success the two (soon to be three) one shot specials received in sales – the first installment became the first Archie Sonic comic to sell out!

Fans who were late to the Sonic: Mega Drive party, or who just want a handy collection of all three comics, will be happy to learn that Archie plans to release a trade paperback of all three July 18th, 2017. The paperback is available to pre-order now on Amazon, or you can order it from your favorite comic shop. It’ll be great to have the full story in one handy book, and no doubt there will be bonuses including a covers gallery, pencil sketches and more!

Yakuza 6 sells over 300,000 units in Japan!

Yakuza6

Last time we reported on Yakuza 6, SEGA announced that the title managed over 500,000 shipped copies to Japan and the Asian markets. Now, with the release of the latest Media Create, we can confirm that the last title in the Kazuma Kiryu saga has sold over 300,000 units to consumers in Japan. For the week of December 26th – January 1st 2017 the title continued to show some legs in its 4th week of release.

01./01. [3DS] Pokemon Sun / Moon <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2016.11.18} (¥4.980) – 90.891 / 2.949.287 (-67%)
02./02. [3DS] Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.12.01} (¥4.700) – 73.002 / 790.530 (-73%)
03./04. [3DS] Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon!! <TBL> (Nintendo) {2016.12.22} (¥4.980) – 63.577 / 196.452 (-52%)
04./03. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki <RPG> (Level 5) {2016.12.15} (¥4.800) – 49.350 / 561.508 (-72%)
05./07. [PS4] Final Fantasy XV # <RPG> (Square Enix) {2016.11.29} (¥8.800) – 30.381 / 884.422 (-23%)
06./05. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition # <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.400) – 23.765 / 1.042.463 (-54%)
07./09. [PS4] Yakuza 6: The Song of Life # <ADV> (Sega) {2016.12.08} (¥8.190) – 19.822 / 312.500 (-34%)
08./06. [3DS] Miitopia <SLG> (Nintendo) {2016.12.08} (¥4.700) – 18.259 / 120.971 (-62%)
09./13. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo <ETC> (Nintendo) {2016.11.23} (¥2.700) – 10.858 / 85.842 (-51%)
10./12. [3DS] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Heroes <SLG> (Konami) {2016.12.15} (¥4.500) – 10.710 / 59.794 (-52%)

Yakuza 6 also climbed up the ranking from last week, from 9th to 7th, thanks to having a lower drop than other titles. It’s showing some decent legs, having sold over an additional 90,000 units from its release week. It seems likely that the game might sell out its first shipment (360,000) but whether it can do much more and perhaps reach over 400,000 units might still be a target it’ll just miss. It should be noted that Yakuza 0‘s total sales fell just sort of 400,000 and that was over two platforms so I’m more inclined to believe the same will occur to Yakuza 6. Still, we might see a minor boost for the title. Sony’s hardware traditionally does well in the New Year period (demographics lining up) and if Yakuza 6 can get a minor bump it might just help the final installment in the Kazuma Kiryu saga push past 400,000 units.

SEGA registers ShenmueHD.com domain, impending announcement?

ShenmueHDdotcomShenmueHD.com domain has been picked up by SEGA Europe, as discovered by TSSZ News today. The whois on the domain says it was registered on September 07, 2016 and was last updated today. Which is funny because SEGA Europe President & COO Jurgen Post said back in September that Shenmue HD remakes had their full attention. Does this mean Shenmue HD remakes are in the works over at SEGA? Who knows, there is the possibility that SEGA just snatched up ShenmueHD.com before a domain scalper could and really have no intents in doing a remake.

I think its a positive sign, especially since SEGA as of late have been more willing to listen to what fans want. Maybe ShenmueHD.com will be put to good use and the internet will be happy? I guess we shall see, soon enough.

[update] After doing some more research, I found that SEGA Europe registered the domain with a certain email and when I reversed searched that email it said SEGA registered THREE Shenmue related domains including ShemnueGame.com and ShenmueRemastered.com. More info here. These Shenmue domains are the only registered domains they did in 2016. [/update]

SEGA Channel Retro Stream Highlights: A Brief History on David Gonterman

Thanks to Sonic Retro‘s David the Lurker, who is so steeped in Sonic the Hedgehog lore that he is writing Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3 and named the island seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, we present to you a highlight from a SEGA Channel Retro stream in which David the Lurker regaled the listeners with a brief history on David Gonterman.

Who is David Gonterman? Why he is only the most famous Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction writer of the mid to late 1990s. He has written several crossover stories involving Sonic, Power Rangers, Doctor Who and Sailor Moon, and has injected himself into the action. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Watch the video above to learn more of this strange period in Sonic history.

English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies discovered for PlayStation 4

Tetris-vs-Puyo-PuyoThe PSN, Xbox Live and Steam trophy/achievement tracking site exophase updated to include English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies, which is strange considering the game hasn’t been announced for a western release. PuyoPuyoTetris (ぷよぷよテトリス Puyopuyo Tetorisu) was a Sonic Team and SEGA developed puzzle game that first hit Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3 in Japan way back in February 2014, then later in December it hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies will include a total of 43 to unlock, which has a platinum if you complete all the trophies. Are they hard? It seems pretty typical like popping 10,000 Puyos, 100% the adventure mode and winning a certain number of matches in the game’s various modes. PuyoPuyoTetris was really well received in Japan, Famitsu gave the game a 9/9/9/8. It would seem that if SEGA of America wants to continue to bring high rated content from Japan over to localize, then PuyoPuyoTetris would be a no-brainer. Though, the site is missing PlayStation Vita trophies for the game, which seems to be a trend with most publishers (ignoring that system outside of Japan).

Check out the English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies here.

Having English PuyoPuyoTetris trophies hitting a website doesn’t mean that its coming West. I guess right now we sit tight and see what SEGA has to say about all this. Maybe SEGA reached a agreement for a Western release with The Tetris Company, seems they love to go to court over the franchise.
