Astro City Mini Review: The Perfect Way To End SEGA’s 60th Anniversary?

The years come and go, it is now 2021 and I finally put together a review for SEGA Toy’s Astro City Mini. The unit has a lot of things going for it that makes it a must own device, but at the same time has some glaring flaws that we need to discuss. I have a few minor complaints, but I really like it overall. I’d like to see a second Astro City Mini, this time focused on polygonal games. ‘Virtua Fighter’ runs a tad too slow on the current one.

This is something someone pointed out after the review and I went back to play more and emulate it on Mame. Ya, VF is def a problem and one thing I should have added into the review. Its a big negative considering it was one of the main games they sponsored on this.

Yeah. I don’t think it’s broken by any means, but it can throw someone off, even someone like me who is playing the game for the first time (though not the first VF game I’ve played).

I love it. Can’t get VF to run fast enough on MAME, and I only notice slowdown on the replays, are you seeing slowdowns during gameplay? Liked it so much I finally went out and got a Japanese Saturn console and am loving playing all the VF games on it (on real hardware). Saturn emulators leave a lot to be desired. I played VF in the arcades, and the mini just sucked me back in after all these years.
