SEGA & AirAsia has recently announced and officially reveals themed flights featuring Sonic the Hedgehog & Persona 5. This comes as a push from SEGA to develop their brands outside of gaming, and in an interview with President & COO of SEGA Shinji Utsumi, he says: “that the synergy created by the collaboration of travel and gaming, two forms of entertainment, will bring us new discoveries.” The Sonic themed plane is an Airbus 330, while the Persona 5 plane is an Airbus 320 and will fly over 100 destinations all throughout major cities in Southeast & Pacific Coastal Asia, including Tokyo, Seoul, & Shanghai. The Sonic plane is adorned with Uekawa style art on the outside & parts of the inside with a Sonic x Shadow collab on the inside compartments and seat backs, while the Persona 5 plane has it’s awesome Soejima stylized art on the outside.
Not much is currently known about the Persona 5 plane as of this time, but the Sonic themed plane will also feature a themed Sonic’s Gold Ring cake (mango & lemon flavor) paired with a Fizzy Iced Yuzu on board. As well as duty free merch to buy in the future (Q1 2025), the collab will also add more themed experiences with each flight, including Sonic & Shadow themed headbands for flight attendants to special boarding gate “installations” and official stickers. One flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok has already kickoff the start of “The Color of Connection” campaign, and looks like all smiles and fun were had on the flight. You can book your flight on the AirAsia MOVE website (with All AirAsia Malaysia & X Malaysia flights codes AK & D7 respectfully) or follow them on Instagram for more updates & possible future collaborations.
