Someone sent this in to the boys over at UK:R, a patent issued on February 10, 2009. That is like almost going to be two years ago. Why is SEGA making weird controllers that look like a offspring from the NiGHTS Saturn controller?
I wonder what it is for? You can go tot he patent site and check out over 30 photos with detailed descriptions. Most likely has to do with an arcade machine, but I will accept a new console.
Ad:
Clearly made for use with Sonic 4. Note the timer on top. It probably counts up to 9:59 to signal "time's up".
Sega has the best D-PAD ever made on the games industry!!
Saturn default controller is the best EVER MADE!!! I have one for the DC and 2 for the PS2, and these ones are not false or fake; they are original officially released by Sega XDDDD
MAKE ONE FOR THE PS3 PLZ!!!! Saturn controller rlz!!!
Looks weird, but it might work nicely
Patent. 🙂
Looks like those machines that test how drunk you are.
That would be useful playing a Sega game.
My only gripe, the lower dpad looks a bit far off. Then again, I was never really a fan of the Xbox controller pad layout, but this looks less convenient.
Also, my thumb might not like the button layout, either.
Not really trying to nitpick, just food for thought for myself.
@Mengels7: Fixed, I don't know what I was thinking during typing.
Aha no problem 😛
And matty, a Sega breathalyzer would be a day one purchase for me.
This is a great concept. I love how there are some expansion units and shit.
But why would Sega ever patent this? I thought the idea of releasing hardware was completely out of the table for the next decade or so.
