Rodea: The Sky Soldier Trailer, Details

I haven’t known what to think of Yuji Naka’s new game…until now. I have to say, the game play in this looks really intense. As a big fan of NiGHTS and rail shooters, this looks like something any SEGA fan should be excited about. What do you think of the trailer?

I will admit, the CGI does look rather low budget. But it’s the game play that counts, right?

Further details, courtesy of GoNintendo:

– When Ion reactivates Rodea, she asks, “Can you hear my voice?”
– the text following that scene says “The 1000 year promise that’s told now on this continent in the skies.”
– theme song credited to Dino
– Naka as game designer, Takayuki Nakamura on sound and Takumi Miyajima on scenari
– text at the end of the trailer says “I will protect you. That is why I fly.”
– Rodea is a flying robotic soldier who was created as part of the R Project
– “to protect the promise with that person,” Rodea takes on the Naga Empire
– Ion lives on the floating continent of Garuḍa and loves to tinker with robots.
– Ion takes on the task of protecting Rodea and Garuda
– Ion looks like Princess Cecilia, who was responsible for saving Garuda 1000 years ago
– Cecilia is princess of the Naga Empire
– A wish from Cecelia marks the start of the story

    I am impressed.

By that I meant I thought I would be amazed and really drooling for this game, but it looks like every other niche flying game on Wii. The level art is nice, but it is the same kind of stuff we have all seen dozens of times, though the 3DS one might be pretty neat, maybe.

Might buy it when it drops down in $5 though, you know, two weeks after it is released.

I think it looks great and I'm not sure why Sega would pass up on publishing… Not NiGHTS level great though…

Also Nuckles, your article format is wrong, trailer always goes at the top.

Why the youthy anime style, I wish it was cartoony rather than this.

I think what Yuji Naka is going for with this game is feeling the sensation of flying through the sky, feeling the wind blow beside you. It looks to be a combination of nights and sonic. Apart from the generic character design, I like it.

  5. cube_b3 says:

NiGHTS was already Sonic on air :S.

I first this as "theme song credited to Dio".

The game looks cool. It reminds of Sin & Punishment, although I haven't played that yet…

^damn, note to self: don't typed 5 minutes after waking up in the dark.

I don't think the CG looks bad at all. Granted, this isn't Final Fantasy-level cinematics…..but we're talking about an indie-developed game….it's not going to feature top-notch production values. I think the characters and the cutscenes look pretty charming.

I'm actually much more excited by what I saw here than I ever was for Nights 2. Looks better in every aspect. I wish the gameplay graphics were a little closer to the level of the CG, but I dunno. I'm not sure what some of you (reactions in the forums included) were expecting. People seem to always complain about big publishers like Activision ruling the industry yet then bash indie games like this and No More Heroes for featuring "bad graphics." I mean….that kinda goes with the territory of being an indie game.. You don't have all that much money to throw around. What's *supposed* to matter is the gameplay and the visual style. People shouldn't buy indie games expecting a $60 million project. To afford to produce those, you have to be, well, Activision.

Looks cool! The only flaw is the stupid anime characters.

Again, SEGA is stupid for passing this.

  10. CrazyTails says:

SEGA has Iizuka so no need for Yuji

  11. nuckles87 says:

lol, I mostly pointed out the poor production values to even out the positive tone of the article. I think it looks real good and this just shot up to the top of my list of games this year because it combines all this awesome stuff I liked from other games.

  12. I think it looks really good.

  13. Team Andromeda says:

    That looks simply incredible

haha Nux I wasn't addressing you, specifically. Just some complaints I've read in various places (including these forums) about the visuals.
