Project X Zone releasing the same day as Bravely Default in Japan; Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen!

Looks like RPG fans on the 3DS will have quite a choice to make this October. It’s being reported that SEGA’s mashup with Namco and Capcom, Project X Zone, will be releasing not only in the same month, but on the same day, as Square-Enix’s upcoming handheld RPG, Bravely Default.

Both titles will see release for the 3DS on October 11th in Japan, with no Western plans yet announced for either; given Square-Enix’s localization track record in recent years, however, Bravely Default’s Western release is looking a bit more likely.

Do you think it’s a smart idea to go up against Square-Enix? Or does Project X Zone have the brand name recognition to crush the new IP? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Did you have to pun a lyric from JSRF in the article title? Wow.

🙁 I thought it was kinda clever.

PXZ is going too sell extra harder than Bravely Default. You got games like Sakura Taisen, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and .Hack all in one which all did pretty well in Japan

    I think Square/Enix will win…

    …by Default.

    YYYYEEEEAAAAAHHH!

Brave default looks like a ported ds game. Project X looks amazing however. There are footages around youtube and what i’ve seen so far is defenitly a buy if it comes to the west lol

Eh? Bravely Default’s being celebrated as one of the more ambitious-looking and pretty 3DS games. Project X is the one that looks like a ported DS game. :p

  7. Hitrax says:

Who is actually publishing Project X Zone, Sega, Capcom or Namco?

  8. CrazyTails says:

What? It doesn’t look like a 3ds game at all, it looks like any final fantasy remake that came out on the ds, almost exactly, only refined with the extra hardwarepower. The artstyle however is what sets the game apart and makes the game look good. But no it does not look like a pushing 3ds game like let’s say, kingdom hearts 3d does

Well I can see what u mean about project X. But you know 2d gameplay isnt judged that way. 2d is timeless but its based more around the resolution and animation which looked really good in th footages of project x

X-zone really doesn’t look all that great visually, I have to say. Bravely Default’s environments look leagues beyond what we saw on the DS, and it supposedly features a huge world with 60 hours of gameplay. It’s a legit JRPG. Project X-Zone….I dunno.

Anyway, Namco-Bandai are the ones publishing this game. Its development is being done by Banpresto (owned by Bandai) and with help from Monolithsoft (owned by Nintendo).

Well anyway, there’s a new extended trailer (of 10 minutes) :).
