If you didn’t know, SEGA-Sammy own a CGI animated studio called Marza Animation Planet, who is co-producing the Captain Harlock movie.
The studio has now announced its new film which has begun pre-production and will be their first original film. They got Henry F. Anderson III (Gnomeo & Juliet) directing, Paul Wang (Astro Boy, TMNT) producing and Jeannette Manifold (Happy Feet, All Dogs Go to Heaven) as head of production. Its based on a script by Robert Reese.
Marza describes the film:
“heartwarming family adventure about two dogs that couldn’t be more different from one another. One is a bright and energetic Robotic dog and the other, an old and grumpy real dog who’s seen it all. The unlikely duo make a classic odd couple as they embark on an adventure of a lifetime as they learn about their place in the world and the true nature of friendship.”
Marza Planet has said it will try to create a feature film every year from English scripts, but aimed at international markets. Masanao Maeda (Also was/is? COO of SEGA of America) is now head of Marza Animation Planet.
Maeda didn’t throw out the idea of making a movie based on a SEGA IPs, though he did ultimately tell The Hollywood Reporter that he wants most of the films to be based on original stories. A really well done Sonic the Hedgehog movie could make more money, right?
