Toejam & Earl 3 for Dreamcast unearthed, founder starting fundraiser to release beta to public

We already know that SEGA got ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth out on Xbox, but the game was originally being worked on for Dreamcast. This isn’t the only game, lots of early SEGA 3rd party games where mean’t to be Dreamcast titles, like Shinobi and Gunvalkyrie. Seems like the unfinished Dreamcast versions of these games never see the light of day, thankfully there are people that find them. That is what happen here.

The person that found the rare gem is a forum member from Assemble Games that goes by the handle ZakhooiTM. Mr. ZakhooiTM is starting a fund raiser to get the code online, for all public to freely download and try. You can find more information here.  Above is over 30 minutes of gameplay from the beta and  after the jump we have 2-player mode footage. Enjoy

Why is there a fundraiser for this? If he has it, can’t he just upload it to a website like Mega?

I was thinking the same thing. If he wanted to finish the game, or at least polish it up, even for a download only release, then I can see asking for a fundraiser.

  2. Rickmoss says:

Cause he is greedy. No love

  3. Trippled says:

wonder if the same exists for JSRF and Orta

    …probably not

You guys do realize that the people who “find” these betas usually pay pretty good money to their hands on them, right? It’s actually a pretty common practice for the community to help the buyer recoup his costs in exchange for a public release. So yeah, quit being whiny, entitled moochers.

Imagine if the Dreamcast had lived on. It would of not only had all the amazing games it did end up getting, but also Toejam & Earl, Jet Set Radio Future, another Sonic, Billy Hatchy and the Giant Egg, and possibly games like OutRun 2, Afterburner Climax, Virtua Fighter 4 Evo, maybe Shenmue III or someting else from Yu Suzuki, Shinobi and Nightshade, Chaken the Forever Man, possibly Panzer Dragoon Orta, more Phantasy Star, Gunvalkyrie, maybe some old arcade releases like Planet Harriers and SCUD Race and lot’s of stuff I’m forgetting. Not to mention whatever the 3rd parties might of come up with. The DC is amazing as it is, but imagine if it had the chance to be around a lot longer.
