SEGA registers ShenmueHD.com domain, impending announcement?

ShenmueHDdotcomShenmueHD.com domain has been picked up by SEGA Europe, as discovered by TSSZ News today. The whois on the domain says it was registered on September 07, 2016 and was last updated today. Which is funny because SEGA Europe President & COO Jurgen Post said back in September that Shenmue HD remakes had their full attention. Does this mean Shenmue HD remakes are in the works over at SEGA? Who knows, there is the possibility that SEGA just snatched up ShenmueHD.com before a domain scalper could and really have no intents in doing a remake.

I think its a positive sign, especially since SEGA as of late have been more willing to listen to what fans want. Maybe ShenmueHD.com will be put to good use and the internet will be happy? I guess we shall see, soon enough.

[update] After doing some more research, I found that SEGA Europe registered the domain with a certain email and when I reversed searched that email it said SEGA registered THREE Shenmue related domains including ShemnueGame.com and ShenmueRemastered.com. More info here. These Shenmue domains are the only registered domains they did in 2016. [/update]

Since it’s SEGA of Europe (responsible for STEAM games like Totar War, Football Manager, & Company of Heroes) probably it’s for PC, not console.

If you look at the reverse look up on all the names they registered in the past, they also picked up a bunch of console stuff like TempoGame.com, Alien-Universe.com, and etc. So never say never.

Is it just me or does it seem that though in one sense the appeal of remastering the Shenmue series is something to celebrate, in another, it would be quite sad as it will now mean that the Dreamcast biggest productions are no longer Dreamcast exclusives, and they’d just be a few less reasons for investing in and bringing out the Dreamcast today.

I used to think like that and it is nice that the Dreamcast is still alive and gets new games every year. I find booting it up a hassle. Connecting it to a CRT TV, all the wires. Not fun. So in that sense, it is good that people will be able to experience the most ambitious DC game without the hassle.

This could make people explore more DC games that are still exclusive to the system 😉

That will be great if the save game can carry over all the way from Shenmue 1 to Shrnmue 3

  4. Superhero says:

If it is PC only release that would be the most dumbest decision by Sega , game will become trash over the torrent sites in the first place makes the game worthless with least amount of sales.

Dear Sega, here’s my money now gimmie my Xbox One version! I want paid 100¥ each capsule toy…

Sometimes they sell those in comic shops, I remember back in 2004 there was a specialty store that sold them and sold music based on video games and anime some model kits but they closed. Look around you may get lucky finding them.

  6. Dreamy™ says:

Any chance Sega will rerelease on their consoles.

I don’t get it. Why registered on “ShemnueGame”? Not “ShenmueGame”? Is it a typo?
