Pai and Sarah don swimsuits in Dead of Alive 5 Collector’s Edition

Tecmo’s love for women in swimsuits has extended to Virtua Fighter’s guest characters Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan, as Siliconera revealed screens of SEGA’s gals in swimwear. These suits, as well as suits for the Dead or Alive women, are available in the Dead or Alive 5 Collector’s Edition of the game, which is a Gamestop exclusive available next week in the US and on September 28th in Europe as a CentreSoft exclusive.

Virtua Fighter 2 to be playable in Yakuza 5

From Jin115.com and NeoGAF comes news that a fully playable Virtua Fighter 2 will be in Yakuza 5’s virtual arcades. This info appears to come from a recent issue of Famitsu, in which it is also revealed that the game will have both 1 player and 2 player offline gameplay. No further info in known, but once we hear something we’ll be sure to share it! Commence the Inception jokes, Xzibit “Yo Dog” memes and comparisons to Shenmue.

Sonic joins Wii U launch line-up and more Transformed news!

SEGA has confirmed that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has joined the European launch line-up of the Wii U, due for release on November 30th. Given that the game is launching at the low price of $40/33£, it will be one of the lowest priced Wii U titles at launch. Also, SEGA has confirmed that the Wii U version will have a Bonus/Limited Edition just as the other versions do. Above you’ll see a new preview video for the game running on Wii U hardware. Note the awesome Toot Toot Sonic Warrior remix and Sonic’s all new All-Star Move, as revealed in yesterday’s Sonic Talk podcast.

NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 Heritage Collection releases dated and priced

SEGA has finally revealed the release dates and prices for NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2, both of which are a part of SEGA’s Heritage Collection. NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 will be available on PSN on October 2nd for $9.99 USD, and available October 5th for 800 msp on XBLA. So both games in one day? Sweet deal! SEGA has also announced Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Mode DLC for an additional $3/240 Microsoft Points. Battle Mode includes more maps and characters from the Gamecube version, including Chao Karate. Also revealed is that NiGHTS will have the Christmas NiGHTS content included at no extra charge.

No word on Europe yet, when we get the details we’ll share them. However, we can assume the price will be similar to the US.

New All-Stars Racing Transformed preview video shows off Seaside Hill on the Wii U

From the GamesRadar YouTube channel comes a preview video of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed running on the Wii U. The player notes that the frame rate isn’t the best, but at least we get a look at the new Seaside Hill track as well as the Wii U’s secondary screen. Seaside Hill, while the same location as seen in the first All-Stars Racing, has a completely new layout and is freshened up a bit thanks to the inclusion of a boating section as well as the presence of a giant mechanical squid which has tentacles that bear a striking resemblance to the boss from Sonic 2’s Oil Ocean Zone. Past interviews have also hinted at the stage having music other than the original stage music. One of the confirmed tracks being a remix of Super Sonic Racing. Meanwhile, the secondary screen shows an overhead view of the map which unfortunately distracts the player more than it assists them. Hopefully frame rate has since improved and there is an option to move the map to the television screen.

Wreck-It Ralph poster features Sonic, Eggman and Demon God Neff

Well this is a surprise! Sonic, Eggman and Demon God Neff of Altered Beast ended up on the final poster for Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. I was looking forward to the movie, but now I’m looking forward to picking up the poster for my game room. Also on the poster are characters from Q*Bert, Street Fighter, and Clyde of Pac-Man fame. As the poster states, Wreck-It Ralph releases November 2nd in the United States. No word on where you can buy the poster yet, but it should appear on movie poster sites soon. In the meantime, you can see a larger version here.

Upcoming book answers the age-old question of “Where’s Sonic?”

While we can’t report on EVERY piece of Sonic merchandise (if we did that, we’d be up to our necks in pencil cases, DVDs, statues, figures and the occasional toothbrush), we do like to share the unique and awesome items emblazoned with Sonic’s mug. “Where’s Sonic?: A Search-And-Find Adventure” is definitely of the unique category. It’s a Where’s Waldo/Wally style book in which fans try and find Sonic as well as other items as they litter recognizable zones and stages from the franchise. Currently the book is only listed in the UK and Australia. Amazon UK is taking pre-orders for £2.99 with free shipping within the UK. The release date is October 11th, so until then try to find Shadow creeping in the shadows in the image above.

Happy 13th Birthday, SEGA Dreamcast!

Thirteen years ago today, the SEGA Dreamcast released to the United States. Why is it that the US release is so widely celebrated? Well, the marketing geniuses behind the launch chose an incredibly memorable date: 9/9/99. Of course, that isn’t to say that the European launch date of 10/14/99 or the Japanese launch date of 11/27/98 aren’t just as important, but nothing sticks like a string of nines. Despite being one year older, and well past the point where it is still deemed a current gen console or even a last gen console, the Dreamcast has managed to remain relevant. SEGA has kept the dream alive with rereleases of popular Dreamcast games, including the Dreamcast Collection and the upcoming SEGA Heritage Collection titles. Indie developers have been hard at work on new Dreamcast games including the awesome GunLord, the Dux sequel Redux: Dark Matters and redspotgames Sturmwind. Like a fine wine, the Dreamcast just gets better with age. Even now, fans are still discovering titles on the console. Just check out our forums where fans are sharing their favorite obscure titles.

So whatever you have planned for today, try to squeeze in a play session of your favorite Dreamcast game. Don’t have a Dreamcast or don’t have the time? My Life With SEGA remembers it all in Flashback

This week on My Life With SEGA, AJ plays the SEGA Genesis classic Flashback: The Quest for Identity. Here’s a question: if it’s titled “Flashback”, why does it take place in the future? Anyway, here’s what AJ has to say about this week’s show:

This is largely considered one of the best cinematic platformers ever made, along with Prince of Persia and Another World. It had one of the most ambitious marketing campaigns I’ve ever seen, boldly exclaiming it’s “A CD-ROM game in a CARTRIDGE!”. My brother and I were amazed….back in 1993.

Is it a flashback worth having, or should we data-dump it like a fresh brownie?

XBOX Avatars and Vita Features revealed for All-Stars Racing Transformed

More details have emerged for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, this time concerning the Playstation 3, Vita and XBOX 360 versions. Sony’s new Vita product page for the game reveals that the handheld version will support motion steering and will allow players to fire weapons and activate All-Star moves via the touchscreen. The Playstation 3 product page confirms that the game will not support 3D. As for the 360 version, the product page confirms that Avatars will return as a part of the roster and that the game will support DLC. DLC support is also confirmed on the Vita and PS3 pages. All three versions will support up to eight players online. Also of note to 360 owners, Steve Lycett has told fans that Banjo-Kazooie will not be returning. Samurai & Dragons & SEGA All-Stars, oh my!

Samurai & Dragons, the Japanese version of Kingdom Conquest released to the Playstation Vita, just got SEGA-fied. Well, that is to say it will soon be SEGA-fied and by “SEGA-fied” we mean they’re adding a slew of SEGA cameos. A Deluxe Package is set to release on November 29, and it will include rare Bayonetta, Sonic, Kazuma, and Akira cards plus in-game money. Also later this year, Samurai & Dragons will get cards from the popular SEGA card arcade game Sangokushi Taisen and a Hatsune Miku card that can be bought with in-game currency. Perhaps most exciting is that SEGA hired Hatsune Miku illustrator KEI to turn their consoles into characters. Players will be able to play the game with girl versions of the SG-1000, SC-3000, SG-1000II, Sega Mark II, Master System, Mega Drive, Game Gear, Mega CD, Mega Drive MK II, Mega CD 2, Saturn, 32X, and the Dreamcast.

My Life With SEGA hits the streets in The Crow: City of Angels

Ah yes, that age old question: does an awful movie yield an awful video game? Find out in this week’s My Life With SEGA episode, as AJ suffers though (blast! I already gave it away) the SEGA Saturn game The Crow: City of Angels.

“Abashed the Devil stood and felt how awful….well, AWFULNESS is!”

Yeah, I know that’s not the line, but it’s so much more appropriate. Why, you ask? How can the one and only game based on the craptacular sequel to one of the greatest comic-to-film adaptations be anything less than incredible?

Jet Set Radio’s Gum joins the roster of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Via Nintendo Power scans comes confirmation of another SEGA character joining the racer roster in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed: Gum of Jet Set Radio. This latest reveal isn’t as exciting as, say, Vyse or Ryo in the first game. Gum has appeared in a past title in the series, SEGA Superstars Tennis, and her game already has representation by way of Beat. Having said all that, I am personally overjoyed to see Gum added to the game. “What!?” you may say, “Blasphemy! She’s taking a slot from an obscure 16-bit game or some Japanese title that nobody really knows about!”. But hear me out. For starters, the game is severely lacking in female characters, and Gum perfectly fills that role of cool gals from SEGA’s past. Secondly, if Sonic gets seven characters, and NiGHTS gets two, why can’t Jet Set Radio have a second racer? Gum herself is a very unique design, which is something you can’t say about Reala or Shadow when comparing them to other characters represented in their respective IPs. Now, I understand if this riles people up because they will now fear MeeMee of Super Monkey Ball joining the roster. But I say wait it out, we still have more than eleven reveals left.
