Famitsu reveals more Shenmue III details and shows the return of the forklift!

The latest issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine has a new interview with Yu Suzuki discussing the upcoming Shenmue III, and the highlight is an in-game image of Ryo once again riding a forklift. The website Twinfinite details some of the information Suzuki reveals in the interview, with the focus being on mini games and how the system works in the game. It seems China is once again impacting our entertainment, as the real world strict gambling laws in the country has changed the way mini games function in Shenmue III.

SEGA teases Yakuza Kiwami 2 PC release

Last month we shared the news that the ESRB had rated Yakuza Kiwami 2 for PC, and now it seems SEGA is ramping up their marketing for a reveal of the release. The official SEGA Steam account has updated their profile picture to Goro Majima’s eyepatch, which is right in line with past PC reveals by the company. As discussed on SEGA News Bits Extra, we think Yakuza Kiwami 2 coming to PC before Yakuza 6 is a wise move as the prequel Yakuza 0 and the first Yakuza Kiwami have previously released to PC. With the next chapter in the story soon to be released on the platform, it sets SEGA up nicely for a release of Yakuza 3-5 for PlayStation 4 and PC in the west, followed by Yakuza 6.

We’ll share more as we hear it, but expect Yakuza Kiwami 2 for PC news very very soon.

SEGA Genesis Mini details revealed, price and first ten games announced

Yesterday, SEGA FES revealed the SEGA Mega Drive Mini. Today, SEGA of America and SEGA Europe revealed their versions of the plug and play console. Like the Japanese version, the console will include 40 games. While Japan has two versions, one with one controller and another with two controllers, the western versions will include two controllers with price points of $79.99/£69.99/€79.99 and a worldwide release date of September 19, 2019.

We have learned since the SEGA FES presentation that emulation is handled my M2, of SEGA AGES and 3D Classics fame, and the menu music will be created by Yuzo Koshiro!

Unfortunately, unlike the Japanese version the western releases will not feature the superior six-button pad. Instead the original three button pads will be included. If I had to guess, SEGA is hoping fans will buy the recently released officially licensed Retro-Bit controllers (should they work with the plug and play console).

SEGA FES 2019: New Mega Drive Mini information revealed

SEGA FES 2019 had more news about the Mega Drive Mini! Sadly, we don’t understand Japanese but this is what we saw:

A trailer kicked off, showing the classic console telling of its history. 2019 will see the release of the Mega Drive Mini. HDMI input, USB cable input for controllers(?). You can take screenshots! And… the trailer ends. Then the console was revealed with the Green Hill music playing. The six button controller is included. Two versions are releasing, one with two controllers and one without(?).

SEGA FES 2019: Multiple Olympic games announced for 2020, including Mario & Sonic

SEGA FES has kicked off in Japan, and a slew of games for the 2020 Olympics in Japan has been announced: TOKYO 2020 for Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games for Switch (due out in 2019) and arcade and Sonic at the Olympic Games for mobile. The event is live as we write this, so we will share more news as we hear it! On to the next story…

Team Sonic Racing mobile port revealed as Sonic Racing joins Apple Arcade lineup

Apple’s newly announced streaming game service Apple Arcade features titles from a variety of studios and developers, and unsurprisingly SEGA is one of many on the list. SEGA has long been a supporter of Apple’s mobile game services, with Super Monkey Ball being an App Store launch title. Now, SEGA will be bringing Team Sonic Racing to mobile with Sonic Racing as a launch title for the service when it debuts this fall. With the “Team” dropped from the title, we have to wonder if the game will lack the team mode which is the backbone of the console version. Interestingly, this also makes the previously leaked 3D ChuChu Rocket mobile game more of a legitimate possibility. Both games appeared as Facebook ads earlier this month. More information as we hear it!

Sonic @ SXSW: Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive 2-part animation announced – watch part 1 now!

The Sonic panel at SXSW had a surprise for fans of animation and modern Sonic by way of two new animated shorts! Titled Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive, the animations are created by the same creative team as those behind Sonic Mania Adventures. Based on the audience and online reaction, the first short was a hit and fans can’t wait to see the second. It’s great to see some of the same creative marketing used for Sonic Mania applied to Team Sonic Racing. What did you think of the new animated short? Sound off in the comments below!

Sonic @ SXSW: Sonic Boom DVDs announced for America

The Sonic the Hedgehog panel announced today that the Sonic Boom TV series will be seeing DVDs in America. While the series saw releases outside of the USA, only streaming services saw episodes appear. The first DVD will only contain 8 episodes and will be priced at $6.99 with a second DVD due out later with another 8 episodes. The episodes do not appear to be in any order, and given the series has 104 episodes it will take a while to see the whole series on DVD (that’s 13 total). Still, cool to see more Sonic cartoons on home video!
