The King of Fighters NeoWave ported to SEGA Dreamcast

Looks like now that the Sammy/SNK arcade board, Atomiswave, has been figured out and its actually easy to port over titles to Dreamcast, we got a slew of them. Now the latest one is King of Fighters Neowave, which also had a port on PS2 and Xbox back in the day. I never tried the game, but heard it got mixed reviews upon release.

You can download The King of Fighters Neowave GDI here

Expect many more upcoming updates of even more Atomiswave arcade ports, which of course is a good thing.

Shoot ’em up ‘Dolphin Blue’ arcade gets SEGA Dreamcast port

When MegaVolt85 started porting all those Atomiswave arcade ports to SEGA Dreamcast, there was one game I really wanted. Dolphin Blue, which always gave me this ‘what if Metal Slug met Ecco’ vibe. Now, thanks to efforts of fans like MegaVolt85 , us SEGA fans can now enjoy Dolphin Blue on their SEGA Dreamcast!

You can download the Dolphin Blue GDI Here

The best thing about the Atomiswave arcade ports is there are still a lot of Atomiswave games yet to come, like Rumble Fish 2, Fist of the North Star, and a few Guilty Gear titles.

‘Faster Than Speed’ is the newest SEGA Dreamcast Atomiswave port

Here we go, Dreamcast-Talk user MegaVolt85 has blessed us with yet another (I feel like I’ve typed this way too much) Atomiswave arcade port, this time another obscure title: Faster than Speed, an arcade street racing game by Sammy USA from 2004.

Faster than Speed has ‘trick maneuvers’ and ‘Nitro boost’ to beat your opponents. From SEGA’s description back in the day:

“Enter the exciting street-racing world of Faster Than Speed where the winner rules and the loser walks! Hit the street with the most addictive driving experience of your life! Pick from 8 customized rides. Faster Than Speed will take your players into the exotic, dim-lit, back streets of over 6 tracks challenging the quickest, the fastest, the baddest, and the most stocked racer conquers the asphalt! To take down your challenger, you need to burn the street with a variety of high-speed tricks.”

You can download the Faster than Speed GDI Dreamcast Image here.

This is the 6th Atomiswave arcade port we’ve gotten, we also got: Metal Slug 6, King of Fighters XI, Samurai Shodown VI, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, and Knights of Valour: The Seven Spirits.

Knights of Valour: The Seven Spirits is the latest Arcade port to Dreamcast

If you guys missed the news post about the latest SNK/Sammy Atomiswave arcade ports to Dreamcast, Dreamcast-Talk user Megavolt85 has been porting the titles over. According to him its rather easy and only needs a few lines of code changed to get them working on the SEGA Dreamcast. He has ported over Metal Slug 6, King of Fighters XI, Samurai Shodown VI, and NeoGeo Battle Coliseum. Now, for his fifth title he choose… Knights of Valour: The Seven Spirits? I actually never played the franchise, so I’m interested in trying it.

I do know that the franchise has a ton of entries and this title actually is the fifth release in the franchises history.

You can download the GDI file for the Dreamcast via the Dreamcast-Talk thread. I do know a few of the last few GDI games have gotten CDI (to burn on disc) images as well.

Yakuza Creator Doesn’t Want Kazuma Kiryu in Fighting Games Because He Doesn’t Want Him ‘Beating Up Women’

While Kazuma Kiryu is a big, strong Japanese man that has slapped children and even killed a few people. It seems that series Creator and Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi doesn’t want his leading hero in fighting games because, he doesn’t want  him hitting women. According to a recent Red Bull France interview:

“We do get this request a lot. Of course there are exceptions, but fighting games generally have female characters, and personally I don’t really want to see Kiryu beating up women.”

Its understandable to feel this way since Kazuma Kiryu is a old school type and wouldn’t make sense for a character like him to assault women. I don’t disagree with him, but fighting games aren’t considered canon or real. Its like, are we really gonna say Mario is out there hitting women and knocking them into a internal abyss when he ring outs them? I think you guys all agree that Kazuma Kiryu joining a game like Tekken 7 or even a new Virtua Fighter won’t ruin his character?

SEGA-Sammy’s Latest Financial Report Breaks Down Covid-19 Loses, Rise in Home Software Sales Including Sonic and Persona franchises

As most of you guys have known, SEGA has been largely effected by Covid-19 this year, so much so that they actually sold 85% shares of their Arcade management business earlier this month. This obviously caused a lot of people to panic and predict that SEGA was going under. Now we have SEGA-Sammy’s new financial report to look at and see how much damage the virus has done to a company like SEGA.

I’ll try to point out interesting things that I find in the report below:

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum and Samurai Shodown VI ported to Dreamcast as Atomiswave arcade ports keep coming

We are continuing our updates on SNK Atomiswave ports coming to the SEGA Dreamcast. The user Megavolt85 is the SEGA fan behind these ports where he started with Metal Slug 6, then released King of Fighters XI. Now we got not one, but two new games: NeoGeo Battle Coliseum and Samurai Shodown VI!

Download the GDI: NeoGeo Battle Coliseum & Samurai Shodown VI

These ports just keep coming faster and faster. Don’t be shocked that next time you blink, we will have the whole Atomiswave library released. Not that its a bad thing, of course.

King of Fighters XI Arcade Ported to SEGA Dreamcast, More Atomiswave Arcade Ports Coming

Literally a week ago I posted that Metal Slug 6 got a Atomiswave Dreamcast port by SEGA super fan MegaVolt85, where he said that the ports are very simple and all you had to do was do a few changes to get them working. He is proving that is correct, by now releasing King of Fighters XI on the SEGA Dreamcast. You can download the GDI image via Dreamcast-Talk. The image comes in at 150mb.

I’ll pretend that MegaVolt85 anciently ran into this post and I’ll now take this post to ask him for a The Rumble Fish 2 and Dolphin Blue Dreamcast ports. Thanks 🙂

Microsoft Japan indefinitely delays the Xbox Series version of Yakuza Like a Dragon

It looks like if you live in Japan, you won’t be able to experience the power of X when it comes to playing Yakuza Like a Dragon. I would say in the title that SEGA delayed the game, but according to the Game.Impress article from Japan, they’re saying Microsoft Japan is delaying it and not SEGA. Probably because in Japan the game was suppose to come out digitally only.

According to Game Impress there is no reason given by SEGA to why they delayed it and if it will be one of those “Its coming…” then we never hear about it. The site says that this version was titled “Yakuza Like a Dragon” instead its Japanese name: “Ryu ga Gotoku 7 Whereabouts of Light and Darkness”. They also say that this version was set to include the English dub and subtitles (along with all the other great languages it supports). Yakuza Like a Dragon was set to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X which releases on November 10th. Oddly enough, the game page to pre-order Yakuza Like a Dragon seems to still be up on the Microsoft page.

I also heard mixed opinions online regarding past Xbox ports coming out in Japan. I heard some people suggest that Micorosft never released these titles in Japan but that doesn’t seem to be true since all Xbox releases are marked as ‘World Wide’ online. I guess if you buy a Xbox Series X or S and live in Japan, you can always just make a United States account to buy the western version or play it on Game Pass.

SEGA leaves Japanese arcade management business selling off 85.1% shares to GENDA – SEGA name will remain

As you know that the arcade business has been shrinking over the last few decades. This was one of the main reasons Yu Suzuki left SEGA in 2008, stating that they would no longer fund larger scale arcade games. As time went on, it seemed that only a handful of arcade titles continued to profit and the market kept shrinking. This year we got hit with Covid-19, which had a huge impact on the arcade market.

Because of these trends and the events of 2020. SEGA has sold off a majority stake (85.1%) of their SEGA Entertainment arcade business to GENDA, “a company created in 2018 by former President of Aeon Fantasy. Genda specialises in the rental of amusement machines and owns the LIFTるwebsite and mobile application which allows players to remotely play cranes and have their won prizes delivered home” (Source: Arcade Belgium).  SEGA is now a minority shareholder of the business at 14.9%.

Arcade 1up Announces Deluxe OutRun Cabinet featuring OutRun, Turbo OutRun, OutRunners, and Power Drift

It has only been a couple of months since Arcarde1up surprised us with the Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder cabinet and now they come and shock us again with a replica cabinet of the iconic OutRun Deluxe! Pre-orders are up on their site and will cost you a cool $499.99 USD (yo send me one for review, I’m poor!).

The cabinet will include the following games:

  • Outrun™

  • Turbo Outrun™

  • Outrunners™

  • Power Drift™

Going to be honest, this is the sickest cabinet that Arcade1up has produced and that is saying a lot considering each new cabinet gets me to want to buy one. UPDATE: Some things I wanted to update about that Sean Tagg posted on Twitter: The device doesn’t have Ferrari licenses so all the original games are going to be modified and the cabinet will omit Ferrari logos, the cabinet doesn’t have SEGA logos and the steering wheel is made out of foam.

Dreamcast Gets a New Game! Metal Slug 6 Arcade Ported to SEGA Dreamcast

SNK’s arcade board Atomiswave, which was created in collaboration with SEGA and Sammy (before the merger), was very close to SEGA’s arcade board NAOMI. NAOMI happens to be what the SEGA Dreamcast was based on. Recently, the arcade community has been porting Atomiswave arcade titles to NAOMI, and now thanks to Megavolt85 we are getting our first port to the SEGA Dreamcast… Metal Slug 6!

We’re not sure if this is technically considered a port, but according to Megavolt85: “Atomiswave is Dreamcast with small changes. all the information you need is in the MAME source code”.

Could be interesting seeing more Atomiswave titles ported, you can check out the full list of Atomiswave games below:
