Jet Set Radio will finally be out on Playstation Vita November 20th, but if you’re a member of Playstation Plus, the game will be free*. This is done to help promote Playstation Plus’ debut on Vita. Jet Set radio is only one of six free* games that will be available next week. The other games include Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2040, Final Fantasy Tactics and the awesome Mutant Blobs Attack.
*Free, outside of the $50 a year and the fact that if you stop being a member, you no longer own the games and they’ll no longer work.
You read that right. Crackle, Sony’s free streaming video service which is available on PS3, XBOX 360 and online, includes many anime programs which they own the rights to. Turns out, one of them is Valkyria Chronicles. It includes all 26 episodes subtitled. This is a great opportunity for fans to see this rare anime which hasn’t been released on DVD yet. Watch the full series at Crackle’s site now! Or watch it on your PS3 or XBOX 360 via the Crackle app.
This morning, Sega put up another trailer for Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. This time, the focus is on all the features of the Wii U version. Features shown include 5 player split-screen, 10 player online, rear view and weapon view cameras, optional tilt control and more. If the video is indicative of the Wii U version, it’s looking pretty smooth. Now you know why this is the version I’m picking up with my launch Wii U.
And you too can pick Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed on Wii U, 360 or PS3 when it races into stores November 18th.
Sega shows that Sonic isn’t the only star of their new racing game. The first one is made for US TV-viewing audiences and features Danica Patrick and Sonic going out of their way to torture AiAi. It reminds me enough of the Sega commercials of old that it really should have ended with AiAi screaming “SEGA!”. What’s cool is this commercial also re-confirms the US street date of November 18th.
Read on to see Ralph ask Sonic “What are you doing in a car?”
While Sonic Jump is the first Sonic game designed with iOS and smartphone devices in mind, it’s not the first Sonic Jump game. Sonic Jump originally came out in 2006 on older cell phones of that period. This predates Doodle Jump which many claim this game is a knockoff of by almost three years. That’s right Sonic Jump didn’t rip off Doodle Jump. If anything, it’s the other way around.
But the most important question remains “is this game any good”? While I will say this is a much more improved and involved game than Doodle Jump, it’s not without its faults. Read on for the full review.
AiAi, MeeMee and the rest are back in an all-new Monkey Ball game exclusively for the Vita console. Besides the team being up to their regular monkey business, there are all new modes including Love Maze, where you control two monkeys at once and an all new edit mode where you can take a picture and make it into a level! Go ahead. Make a level out of your wang. We all know you’re gonna anyway.
Not sure about the game? Try a nice chunk of it in the just-released demo. The demo includes 3 beginner levels, 3 challenging (and I DO mean challenging) levels, a sample of Love Maze and Edit mode along with a sample of the new version of Monkey bowling.
You can purchase the game right now at a MSRP of $29.99. Those who wish to download, the file size is 807 MB. Official press release after the jump.
These past two weeks, I’ve hardly played a thing on disc as so many great games have been making it to the download scene. Now, Sonic’s got a few downloadable games out or coming out himself. This week, we’ll be talking to Community Manager Kellie Parker and Brand Manager Mia Patrino on Sonic Adventure 2 HD. Meanwhile, me, Nux and GX will be discussing the just released Sonic Jump along with exciting news over the new features in the upcoming Sonic The Fighters. As always we’ll have discussions on Sonic news, the recent comics. Plus Sonic music interludes and more! Youtube link will be available later.
UPDATE: The three Model 2 Fighters (VF2, FV, STF) will be bundled for $15 on PSN. Those three come out this fall and the other two are “Winter 2013” These are Japanese dates so no official dates for America/Europe yet.
Coming this fall through winter (to Japan at least) is a Model 2 Collection. five of Sega’s classic Model 2 games retailing roughly around 800MS Points ($10) each while if the translation is correct, PSN gets a 3-pack for $15. Some games prices are not known yet. This is a rough translation. Games included are…
Virtua Fighter 2
Sonic the Fighters
Virtua Striker
Fighting vipers
Virtual On
It is unknown what bonus features will be included at this time except for the 3 newly playable characters in Sonic The fighters. It appears that through a poor translation, most if not all five games should have online, though it’s not 100% confirmed. UPDATE: OFFICIAL SITE CONFIRMS VF2, FIGHTING VIPERS AND STF TO HAVE 2-PLAYER ONLINE! Did Sega hire a wish-granting Genie? rough translation after the jump. Also, you can check out the official site here.
Now here’s a deal to die for! PSN is offering three of Sega’s House of the Dead games for a price so low, it’s six feet under. If you’re dead set on zombie-shooting fun, grab a Move controller and get your rotted hands on House of the Dead 3, 4 and Overkill:Extended Cut for the low price of $21.99 or even better, $15.39 for PSN Plus subscribers. That’s a price so low you’ll think your (grave) robbing them blind! So don’t just sit there rotting on the sofa. Grab this bundle before it passes away!
Sega has announced on Sonic’s Facebook page, the first screenshot and launch date of Sonic’s first iOS game “Sonic Jump”. The game will be available this Thursday, Oct 18th for $1.99 US, £1.49 Europe. No other details are out at this time, but it seems obvious now that this game will be a new version of the old Sonic Jump from mobile devices.
Courtesy of Sonic Stadium comes a nice chunk of gameplay video of Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed taken from the Manchester’s Play Expo. Steve Lycett whom you probably heard of from our interview with him on Sonic Talk is showing off the game to the press. You’ll the see the intro, hub, confirmation of MeeMee, some of the modes along with new footage of Seaside Hill, split screen mode in After Burner and more! Since this is a long video, there are some spoilers on gameplay and details for those wanting to come in fresh. so you’ve been warned.
From Sonic Stadium comes a big rumor about a trio of Sega 3-D fighting games headed to XBLA. Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2. On this schedule page, you can see that these games are in the rumored section due to them being rated and with a screenshot included. It will be very interesting to see if this holds true. Could this be a new Sega Heritage 3-pack with fighting games as the theme? Hey Sega, how about finally unlocking Honey the Cat in Sonic Fighters and making her fully playable without a hack? Or better yet, how about “buy all three and unlock fighters Megamix”?! I know that would get me to buy them all.
With the new Sonic Adventure 2 HD out for 360/PS3, I thought I’d show you a classic Sonic Eggs comic I wrote with art by Ame Musashi. I always thought it was funny that with all the drama going on in the main story, that the heroes and villains would take time to care and raise some random Chao while acting completely out of character. Full comic in the comment section. Enjoy!
There is a God! While we’ve been expecting the Naganuma-centric version of the Jet Set Radio soundtrack to hit, not only did we get that, but Sega also included a JSRF soundtrack with all of Naganuma’s tunes and the soundtrack to Ollie King! Ollie $#@king King! Why are you still reading this?! Shrink this window, go to iTunes, buy the soundtracks, listen, then come back here and comment!
Today, Destructoid got a new preview and some soundtrack samples for Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. The game’s soundtrack, which includes Outrun up above, was remixed by Richard Jacques in his brand new studio. Man! An entire soundtrack of Sega remixes by Richard Jacques?!! Sega! Bring that to iTunes ASAP! In the meantime check out the rest of Destructoid’s preview for more info.
