SEGA teases new real-time strategy game Revolve8 with all-star development team including Castlevania’s Koji Igarashi

SEGA announced today that they are working on a real-time strategy game for mobile devices called Revolve8: Episodic Dueling which will have an all-star Japanese staff behind the title. The staff includes Koji Igarashi (Castlevania series producer, Bloodstained) working on character designs, Masayoshi Kikuchi (Yakuza series, Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation) as senior producer,  and Ryota-H (Fate/Grand Order and Lord of Vermilion) as character artist.

On the other side the game’s sound team will include Shunsuke Tsuchiya (Another Eden and Stella Glow) along with Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono series, Xeno series). The games teaser page is already up in both English and Japanese. So, yeah this game is going to be SEGA’s next big release considering the staff has some pretty big names. I first reported this game as a mobile game but made a mistake since there isn’t platforms announced. We will find out more information on October 10th!

Dreamcast Emulator Reicast now supports zero configuration online play

Reicast Libretro has now gained modem and PPP support, which uses dreamcastlive.net to make online play possible. This new update should work flawlessly on Windows, Linux, Android and even macOS without inputting gibberish like IP address. What is that anyway?(I’m being sarcastic)

According to Libretro, this is the first time a emulator has supported a zero-configuration online gaming for Dreamcast and since it uses dreamcastlive.net, it seems you will be able to play with actual Dreamcast servers. What a good timeline. More information here.

Judge Eyes extended trailer reveals playable House of the Dead inspired game

SEGA has unleashed the new extended trailers for Judge Eyes (Project JUDGE), one for the story mode and the other for the gameplay. In the gameplay one SEGA showed off a ton of different things you’ll be able to play through, one of the sections was the arcade games that will be included in Project Judge showing off Motor Raid (which we knew was coming already), but they also gave us a glimpse at The House of the Dead play spot (5m28s in). The question now is if that is actually House of the Dead or maybe a made up in-universe mini-game that is influenced by House of the Dead.

So am I going crazy or is this not one of the past House of the Dead games? One of the biggest giveaways is the art style and the UI. The lives used in Judge Eyes is hearts when in The House of the Dead series they use torches. Maybe this miini-game will play like House of the Dead but be its own thing? Maybe it’ll be based on Yakuza: Dead Souls?

Virtua Racing coming to the SEGA Ages lineup, Twitter survey results revealed

Yet another title is coming to the Nintendo Switch’s lineup of SEGA Ages titles. This time it’s the AM2 developed racing game Virtua Racing, a formula one racing game notably being the first title in SEGA’s series of “Model” arcade boards that would later power games such as Virtua Fighter. At Tokyo Game Show 2018 SEGA has formally revealed the game will be coming to the lineup in the future, though has not specified any details such as a release date, pricing, or any bonus content like the other SEGA Ages titles.

In addition, SEGA has revealed the results of their official SEGA Ages poll on Twitter, asking what games people want to see in the collection in the future. These results are based on general franchises instead of specific games unless stated otherwise. Click below to see the results.

Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash introduces new playable characters Lou and Kee

It looks like the upcoming Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash won’t just have Ulala as the main star, it seems that Team Grounding will add Lou and Kee; two twin rookie reporters learning the ropes from Ulala herself. SEGA and Team Grounding showed off a demo at Tokyo Game Show allowing users to play as the new twins.

It seems that the demo level used is the same one as the first Space Channel 5 game, but users have reported new voice acting and even new actions to perform. Check out the new twin rookie reporters Lou and Kee via the screenshots below.

Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams to be playable in Umihara Kawase Fresh! on Nintendo Switch

Way back in 1991 a small developer known as Success worked with the SEGA System 16B Arcade Board to create the very first entry that would be known as their Cotton series. These scrolling shooting arcade games would become cult fan favorite games at arcades and even SEGA consoles.

Now Studio Saizensen President Toshinobu Konodo joined 4Gamer’s TGS livestream to talk about concepts and ideas for their upcoming game Umihara Kawase Fresh! which was announced for Nintendo Switch.During the live stream, they revealed that the cult classic Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams would be fully playable within Umihara Kawase Fresh! Not only that, after you get deeper into the game, Cotton herself will be unlockable and she even got a brand new look (see featured image) to match Umihara Kawase Fresh’s in-game art style. Does this mean there is an actual possibility that our girl Cotton could make a comeback? While she has had a few releases, everyone considers ‘Rainbow Cotton‘ on the SEGA Dreamcast to be the last true entry into the franchise. What are your thoughts? Would you be interested in a new Cotton game?

Yakuza Online Tokyo Game Show 2018 Trailer shows Haruka kicking ass

SEGA is gearing up on releasing Yakuza Online over in Japan, with them already launching pre-registration for the title. Its not surprise that they would use Tokyo Game Show 2018 to hype up the title. Here we have a new trailer showing a dream team up of all our Yakuza heroes and new comer Ichiban, teaming up to promote Yakuza Online.

What do you think of a Yakuza Online mobile game? Would you like to see this game brought over to the Western market?

Streets of Rage 2 joins the SEGA Forever mobile lineup

SEGA Forever has announced that the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive classic Streets of Rage 2 has joined the mobile lineup. The game is free (ad-supported) on iOS and Android. Streets of Rage 2 was one of the many SEGA sequels to outdo the original, with improved gameplay and memorable music.

Give the game a download and don’t forget that Streets of Rage 4 is on the horizon for home consoles, meaning now is the perfect time to brush up on baring your knuckles.

Fighting Vipers and rare arcade racer Motor Raid playable within Yakuza studio’s Project Judge

I’m starting to think Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is an elaborate front for SEGA arcade releases. As revealed by Famitsu, the upcoming Project Judge will feature playable SEGA arcade games within the game. The announced games include Fighting Vipers and Motor Raid.

It is especially exciting to see Motor Raid as the game has never seen a home release. Released in 1997 and developed by AM1 (cabinet by AM4), the Model 2 game saw players racing futuristic motorbikes across different planets. As noted by our wiki, most of if not all Motor Raid cabinets were sold as conversion kits for Manx TT Super Bike. The game is quite rare, so to see it fully playable in Project Judge is exciting!

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie adds Lee Majdoub to cast as Agent Stone

What can I say about the upcoming Paramount Sonic the Hedgehog movie that isn’t outright negative? I can say that this will be a much more ‘realistic’ take on the franchise considering that they just announced another new character and casting. Lee Majdoub is set to play Agent Stone, who works closely with Doctor Robotnik (Eggman). And no, Agent Stone has nothing to do with Streets of Rage’s Alex Stone.

So it seems that Jim Carrey’s Eggman outing will have him dealing with cops, agents and other government foolery. What are  your thoughts on the direction and casting choices of having actors like Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Schwartz (voice), and now Lee Majdoub?

SEGA Genesis Classics announced for Nintendo Switch, releasing this winter

SEGA has announced that SEGA Genesis Classics will be releasing this winter to the Nintendo Switch, both physically and digitally. The collection had a release earlier this year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and had existed on Steam as the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics Hub. The Switch release appears to be the same content, so a little over 50 Genesis games in a kid’s bedroom-style hub with various video settings.

Prior to this announcement, George and I mused on SEGA News Bits that SEGA held off on a Switch release so as not to compete with their SEGA AGES collection. However, it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are the only games existing in both this and SEGA AGES. SEGA Genesis Classics offers a nice selection of games, but there are several odd choices including the lack of Ecco the Dolphin games and still no Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. These games exist on the Steam version of the collection.

Puyo Puyo E Sports Officially Announced – Coming to PS4 and Switch on October 25th

Puyo Puyo E Sports has been previously been rumored multiple times, both by Puyo Puyo producer Mizuki Hosoyamada on social media and a Korean ratings board. Now however we have official confirmation from SEGA themselves.

Puyo Puyo E Sports is effectively a simplified version of Puyo Puyo that heavily focuses on a competitive scene. This includes a new tournament mode where players pit against each other in a classic bracket 1 vs. 1 fashion, up to 8 players being able to participate. Unlike past games where there’s a focus on multiple different modes, Puyo Puyo E Sports simplifies it to the recurring Tsu Rules and Fever Rules only.

Puyo Puyo E Sports is slated for both the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, with a planned Japan release on October 25th, notably being the the franchise’s 27th anniversary. It’s unknown at the time of this writing if it will be available outside of Japan. Due to the minimal content and recycled assets, the pricing is slated to be only ¥1999 (roughly $18), a lot lower than a typical game.

Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition officially revealed for PlayStation 4 & PC

Just like that early German Rating predicted, tri-Ace has announced Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition for Playstation 4 and PC (specifically Steam). Oddly enough tri-Ace seemed to have skipped over the Xbox One, considering that the game originally came out on the Xbox 360.

The official site has details on the game’s story and characters, but if you played the original you would know the basics. The site does list customizing your characters as a feature but doesn’t show any of the gear using the SEGA logos, but the bottom of the site does have the ‘©SEGA’ on the bottom of the page. The PlayStation 4 version will come with a free theme and Avatar while the PC version will support trading cards.
