Saints Row IV pays tribute to Streets of Rage

[Warning: Spoilers]

The latest entry of the Saints Row franchise came out last month and in the full game there is a part in the story mode where you play as a retro side-scrolling beat ’em up arcade game called ‘Saints of Rage‘. Sound familiar?
If you want to see gameplay, hit the jump but I warn you the gameplay reminds me more of ‘Double Dragon‘ than Streets of Rage.

Keith Apicary’s latest song “Keith of Rage” takes inspiration from a certain SEGA beat ’em up

SEGA superfan and recent SEGAbits interviewee Keith Apicary has returned to the music world with a new music video entitled “Keith of Rage” – inspired by SEGA’s classic beat ’em up Streets of Rage. While the whole song is awesome from start to finish, a few stand out lyrics include “My Segas so hot its turning red. I’m eating apples and bustin heads. I played so hard my fingers bled. In a few more levels Mr X is dead.” and “I’ve got the brain of a 12 year old kid. My friends grew up but I never did. Spent half of my life jamming on Bare Knuckle and as a result I look like your uncle.”

Make sure to give the video a thumbs up and check out Nathan Barnatt’s other videos!

Eurogamer runs a Condemned: Criminal Origins retrospective

DectectiveCondemned

SEGA’s Condemned: Criminal Origins was one of the Xbox 360’s launch titles, and later the game received a sequel on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. I loved this game when I first played it, and it has even made some of our lists of sequels we want to see. The fine people over at Eurogamer seem to like the game as well, since they posted up a retrospective article on it.

Did any of you guys enjoy the first game? If so, why? Let us know!

Update: Sonic Dancing (dirty?) at Sonic Boom

Warning: the first 25 seconds are so is NSFW.

Here is a video from Sonic Boom. The music at first is quite funny. Then when SEGA realizes what’s being played it’s quickly switched, but it’s an awesome video either way. Apparently the video has been getting taken down with DMCA claims, could be SEGA or the licensed music thats being played, so watch it while you can!

Also, I don’t know the names of the songs being played, but if anyone would tell me in the comments that would be great!

Update: here is a perspective from inside the crowd,

Plants vs. Zombies running on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive

This weekend at the PAX Australia event, fans of the game ‘Plants vs. Zombies‘ got to see a weird version of their favorite PopCap tower defense game. The game running on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive.

Penny Arcade got a chance to play the game and posted the above video of it in action. Dave Cudrev from Retrospekt said he bought the game from the creator, who is a Russian coder. His hobby was rebuilding games and selling them on Ebay.

He purchased the game for $30 dollars, with no box or manual. Other games the coder has re-worked include Darkwing Duck and Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers for the Genesis/Mega Drive. I have to be honest, this would be a cool conversational piece of software to have.

Operation Rainfall wants to know what SEGA game you want localized

OperationRainfallSEGAvote
There have been a ton of Japanese SEGA games that haven’t made it West and the guys from Operation Rainfall want to know what game you guys want localized. If you never heard of Operation Rainfall, it was a huge movement started because Nintendo refused to localize Xenoblade Chronicles, after the huge response the campaign got, Nintendo eventually released the game in North America.

Seems they want to help localize other games and are aiming their cross-hairs at some SEGA games.  On their site they have a poll with the following games listed:

  • Valkyria Chronicles 3
  • Yakuza 5
  • Yakuza 1 & 2
  • Shining Hearts

Right now Valkyria Chronicles 3 is winning with about 50% of the votes. I, on the other hand voted for Yakuza 5,  since I really want to play that game in English. What game did you vote for and why? Leave your opinions in the comment section.

Sonic Adventure 2 and Pepsi

I saw this posted on Twitter by @IizukaTakashi. This is a quite an amazing revelation. Sonic Adventure 2 was inspired by a Pepsi game! Can you believe that Iizuka-san was inspried by Pepsi…?

In case you didn’t realize it yet, I’m not being serious. I wanted to share this video because i found it amazing, regardless of which game was made first, or if it’s even an official Pepsi game.

DSP trains for Sonic 4 Iron Man of Gaming speed run at SGC

If you don’t know who DSP is I’ll give you a quick summary. DSP stands for Darksydephil, and he plays games on youtube and twitch.tv for living. He has somewhat of a short fuse and its funny to watch him play games.

DSP is entering the Iron Man of Gaming tournament at SGC, and in this video series he is training for Act 1 of Splash Hill zone since that is going to be one of the parts of Iron Man of Gaming tournament.

It’s the weekend, slow news time, so I thought people might enjoy these videos, something to watch if you are bored.

NeoGAF user creates a fantastic Dreamcast themed 3DS

3DSDreamcast

Hey, we all here love SEGA and we know that we won’t get another console. NeoGAF user A 3 Legged Goat , a huge Dreamcast fan, who designed a concept art above. The idea is to make his 3DS look more sexy, Dreamcast sexy.  Above and below are his photoshop renders.

If SEGA and Nintendo teamed up to release a limited edition Dreamcast design, they would have all my monies.

HUCAST Games now shipping DUX 1.5, their Dreamcast shoot’em-up

img_6502

Hey, just because SEGA has pulled support for the Dreamcast over a decade ago doesn’t mean there aren’t new things to play on the device. HUCAST games actually released DUX in 2009, so if you think you have heard of this title before you aren’t mistaken. This is the new 1.5 version of the title.
So what is new in DUX 1.5 compared to 1.0? Well they have a new soundtrack, rebalanced gameplay and even the option to respawn instantly after death (which is a big deal).

If you bought the original, the team is willing to upgrade you to the 1.5 version for free. How? They say take a picture of your copy of DUX 1.0 with a current newspaper. Who buys newspapers? If you want to take them up on their offer, hit them up on twitter.

You can buy the game here.
