Bonus Stage’s 72 Hour Sonic Gaming Marathon

I love me a good ol’ fashioned gaming marathon, and I was excited to learn that an extremely long one involving the Sonic the Hedgehog series has been underway for 12 hours already! Held by the folks over at the Bonus Stage Marathons blog, their goal is to play all sorts of Sonic games for 72 hours in an effort to earn $1000 for the Baltimore Humane Society. As of writing this, they’re already 34% to their goal. The marathon continues through the 11th, so I’m sure they’ll make their money. Good luck to them!

Check them out on USTREAM, and save some kitties and puppies while you’re at it.

Super Mario Bros. now on SEGA Genesis

If for some odd reason, you have to play Super Mario Bros. on your SEGA Genesis. Now you can! Thanks to a kind soul that ported the game over to the 16-bit blast processor.

I’m pretty sure this would have been a bigger deal if it was the days of the ’16-bit war’, but Genesis does what Nintendon’t and now does what they do as well. Take that! The game is titled SMB4MD, standing for Super Mario Bros. for Mega Drive. Makes sense. Also can’t work with Genesis hardware yet, only emulator.

I remember the stories about Yuji Naka making a working NES emulator for the Mega Drive back in the day, seems like everyone else is just catching up.

SEGA Racing Classic Facebook Petition

A Facebook petition has just started. The goal? To get SEGA Racing Classic ported over to XBLA and PSN. If you didn’t already know, SEGA Racing Classic is basically Daytona USA in 720p and running in widescreen.

If you want to join the petition, it is up via Facebook.

NiGHTS fans start a campaign

You guys all know I fucking hate camping and anything with the word camp in it, but I love great SEGA games to come back, even as a port. The boys and gals over at NiD.com have started a campaign to get NiGHTS into Dreams ported to XBLA and PSN.

Why are they all serious about this now? Next year is the 15th year anniversary of the Nights franchise. They even launched its own website to show that they are serious, go to NiD15.com.  Looks better than this site, fuck!

Think this is a bad time to start our campaign to port over NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams to the PS3 and 360?

SEGA characters invade Modnation Racers

Even though SEGA released their own racing game, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, doesn’t mean SEGA characters can’t crash Sony’s Modnation Racers party. Since the game features some pretty deep create a character tools, it was expected that a SEGA fan would create their favorite characters in the game.

Our forum member Monkeroony has done just that. Creating Sonic, Shadow, Beat, Aiai, and even Ryo Hazuki. If you own the game, search for his creations or you can check them out here.

3D Dot Game Heroes can do Master System

Made by IGN’s Retro devision. 3D Dot Game Heroes is a throw back to retro titles with a weird, cube like graphical effects (3D pixels, if you will). The game has recently been released in the west by Atlus, on the Playstation 3.

Good to see that retro, especially 8-bit focused, get some SEGA love. Usually Nintendo hogs up all the spot light.

If you own the game, you can import IGN’s Master System characters (Opa-Opa and Mick), download here.

Mealtime Strategy: Make food, SEGA Style

Its bad enough that you probably watch video game related television, visit video game sites and listen to video game music all the time. What about cooking? Can we turn that into a geeky chore? The answer is yes.

Mealtime Strategy blog has a ton of receipts for video game related foods, yes SEGA related foods. Is that some Sweets of Rage? Would be prefect for Easter you know!

Dreamcast + Millennium Falcon = Awesome

SEGA mods are the best, but what about a SEGA and Star Wars mod? Holy crap, that sounds amazing. Someone has just done that, its as if they divided by zero. “Pezzapoo” from the Ben Heck forums has put a Dreamcast into a Millennium Falcon toy.

“As soon as I saw these caricature versions of the Star wars toys I thought about the Dreamcast and how the fun little console would feel right at home inside one. Strangely the DC game port facia fitted directly into the toy with about a mill to spare so I knew it was meant to be! Two side docking ring fans keep the hot DC from melting. Lots of soldering and the switch was added to turn on the GDROM. No paint was applied.”

Now I wonder what else we can shove a Dreamcast into?

Mega64: A Yakuza 3 Short Film

Mega64 now takes their ‘mocking ways’ and pokes fun at Yakuza 3’s western localization because bringing over a complex Japanese game like Yakuza needs changes for us, non-Japanese, to understand.

Sega Rally car in real life!

A member of the AtariAge forum has ‘pimped his ride’ turning his plain white Toyota Celica into a replica of the Sega Rally Celica ST205 GT-Four.

“Every time you drive a car in a video game, you want it just a little. Age, make, model, condition — when you’re spanking something across a digital landscape, none of these things matter. And if you owned an ST205-chassis Celica and happened to be a game freak, you’d probably think about doing something like this.”

Make sure to check out more info and pictures of the car HERE!
