Swingin’ Report Show coming to SEGA Media

SEGA Media is a one stop shop for all your fan favorite SEGA-related media, so we decided that it’s time to spread the Swingin’ Report Show around. We will now have the latest SEGAbits podcasts posted over there for fans. You can rate, comment and even help us rank in their weekly chart.

So head over here and show us some love. Episode #25 will be posted in a couple of days, then a new episode is coming this Friday.

Today We Celebrate Our 2 Year Anniversary

It’s hard to imagine that we have had the site up for 2 years. When I first started the site, I laid out what I wanted to do in the future. Even though some of the things we set out to do have changed, we are still committed on delivering the best SEGA content on the web.

So it has been 2 years of hard work and there is still so much most of us on staff want to do with the site. We aren’t anywhere near in completing our vision for this site. I hope that in 2012 we surprise and entertain everyone, even non-SEGA fans. We have been around for 2 years and have already made more than 2,000 posts. I’m glad to report that our posts didn’t go unnoticed by readers, we have collected over 10,000 comments. How many Sonic/SEGA fan sites update as much as us? Most likely none.

Below I’ll attach some early images, most are just planned ideas done quickly. But it shows you how far we came to have the site we have now. I want to thank all the staff writers for working hard on posts, for our readers and everyone else that supported us.

How the rumors crumble…

So I might have posted a rumor that turned out to not be so correct during the start of the week. It seems that the rumor was a complete fabrication and for this I’m sorry. I have been getting emails (some to my personal account, you angry people sure know how to use Google) as to why I posted this rumor and long letters as to why I shouldn’t post every rumor that comes along.

First of all, I would like to just say that we get a ton of rumors. Anywhere from Shenmue 3 coming to Wii U (obviously fake) to this. Some of the rumors we don’t pick up usually end up on other sites a month or so later, most of those turn out to be true. When this one came along I decided to take a risk and took the wrong type of risk, for that I’m sorry to our staff and readers. So why did I post it? It seemed true. Though, I ignored some rules I usually stick by: “Don’t post unless there is evidence that it is correct or you personally know the person.”

From now on I’ll treat rumors like a newborn baby, with informative respect and if I don’t like the way it looks; i’ll ignore it.

Welcome to SEGAbits 3.0

Welcome to the new theme for SEGAbits. I hope you guys all like the changes we made to the blog. Instead of having quotes in the banner, we now have changing pictures. Refresh the page to try that out.

We are always looking into improving the site, so if you have any comments or questions make sure you contact us. You can comment as well and let us know what you think.

Enjoy!

Shadi Edit: We are also working on a mobile version for those of you with smartphones, I’ll be making a post about that once it’s up. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you smartphone users.

Warning: Maintenance this Weekend

Update: Maintenance is over!

I will be doing maintenance on SEGAbits sometime this weekend. I’ll be honest, I don’t know exactly when, just whenever I feel in the mood to do it.

Just some back end changes as we get ready for the future, nothing that is going to change the site very much at the moment. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up because with the changes that are being made I’m not sure I’ll be able to put up a maintenance message. So yeah..

I also had some fun in photoshop making the image for this post, if you didn’t notice! Blood will be shed because of this maintenance! =P

We will be having a TGS talkathon! Join us!

We are a little less than 24 hours before SEGA has their first TGS conference, so its about time I posted this. Most of the staff and some of the community users will be having a Mumble chat together and you can join. All you have to do is download Mumble here.

Once you install it, open it up and go to Server>Connect>Add New. Once you get there, fill out the box with the following:

  • Label: Whatever you want to call the connection
  • Address: vx38.commandchannel.com
  • Port: 31366
  • Username: Your display name people will see goes here
I suggest most users set a ‘push to talk’ button. Its not that hard. On the program go to Configure>Audio Wizard. After you go through all the pages, you will come to one like this, click on push to talk and in the blank spot press a key.
We will be on mostly during the big SEGA stage shows each day, you can see the stage show schedule here

Celebrate the Dreamcast’s 12th Birthday With Us!

Since 2009, It has become a yearly tradition for me to throw a Dreamcast birthday party by way of Dreamcast gaming, a live stream, chit chat, drinking and pizza. This year will be no different from last year: Starting at 11am Eastern Standard Time (5pm GMT) on Friday, September 9th, I’ll be kicking off the party at twitch.tv/dreamroom. We’ll play a ton of games, chat, reminisce and celebrate the 12th anniversary of the Dreamcast’s American launch. We’ll check out the original launch titles, play some wacky imports, go on a Dobuita shopping spree and I even have a few surprises.

So mark your calendars and keep your eyes on The Dreamcast Junkyard and SEGAbits as the big day nears!

Famitsu leaks Black Panther sequel and Yakuza 5 early

[Artwork for the first PSP game, Black Panther]

Nagoshi teased that he had some big announcements coming up in the end of the month, but thanks to Famisu we already know what they are. SEGA is going to have a pretty nice TGS line-up.

First of all Nagoshi has his own studio to make Yakuza titles called “Ryu ga Gotoku Studio.” Ryu Ga Gotoku is the name of the Yakuza series in Japan, it means Like a Dragon.

The first game that the Yakuza team will work on is Black Panther 2, a sequel to the handheld Yakuza spin-off. It will be called in Japan “Kurohyou 2 Ryu ga Gotoku.” This title will be playable at TGS and is set to be released in Japan in Spring 2012. Also its for the PSP. Odd, wonder if this has to do with the ‘rumored’ Yakuza title for Vita.

In the end the magazine says that they are also working on Yakuza 5. I guess we might get more details about this come the press conference.

We will post scans when we get them.
