Sonic Generations: Modern era rival revealed to be Silver

A new batch of pictures recently released showcases Sonic the Hedgehog’s rival from the modern era, and he’s none other than Silver the Hedgehog. The character’s first appearence was in the critical and commercial failure Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 and is seen to be in the single stage that has been brought back to represent that title, Crisis City.

It is interesting to note that of the bosses and rivals revealed so far, Silver is the only one thus far without a unique boss arena for him to battle in. It is also another boss battle that would require you to control modern Sonic. Click after the break to check out the rest of the images.

SEGA outsourcing Aliens: Colonial Marines’ level design to Timegate Studios?

According to a job advertisement listed at Gameasutra (now taken down), suggest that SEGA and Gearbox Software are outsourcing the level design of Aliens: Colonial Marines to Timesgate Studios. They are known for their work on the Section 8: Prejudiced.

The advertisement that TimeGate put up stated that they are “looking to expand its team of ultimate badasses working on Aliens: Colonial Marines,” specifically wanted people for level design and user interface.

Back in June, Pitchford talked about the studio looking for development partners for the the game. He suggested some of them put some great ideas on the table. Should be interesting to see, Timegate Studios have improved and their game Section 8: Prejudice was recieved rather well by critics. I see this as a positive.

Check out the latest trailer for SEGA’s third person squad based shooter Binary Domain. Toshihiro Nagoshi and Team Yakuza have been working hard on their consequence system that reacts and evaluates your battle performance and strategy, the more effective fighter you are, the more likely your squad mates will listen to you in regards to advice and planning out how to take large groups of machine downs.

The trailer also features the voice acting for the newest character, Cain, a French military robot and showcases a new level that was only seen prior in screenshots as well as how the consequence system may alter the storyline slightly.

Sonic Generations Modern Era Trailer

Following on from their recent trailer for the Dreamcast era, SEGA has released the trailer for the modern era, three of the most recent console titles in the series. Featured in the trailer are stages Crisis City, Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp and showcasing both modern and classic Sonic as the blast through the various stages at high speed and platforming.

With Sonic Generations less than a month away, this could be one of the final trailers, if not the final trailer, SEGA releases to promote the game. Sonic Generation is set to release 1st November in North America and 4th November in Europe.

Sonic Generations: Sonic Team building on lessons learnt

Sonic Generation is looking to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SEGA’s blue mascot in style. The game is set to feature a number of throwbacks, references, past levels and a complete mishmash of the history of the entire series as publisher SEGA looks to restore the quality that was once synopsis with the series. I spent an extensive time playing the levels available for the Sonic Generations demo and got to play as both classic and modern Sonic, click after the break to find out how the title fared!

Anarchy Reigns: The new Power Stone for parties

Platinum Games has enjoyed a beneficial relationship publisher and that is set to continue with their latest title, Anarchy Reigns. The title is set to be a number of new Intellectual Properties that publisher SEGA is set to be releasing next year and is a sort of spiritual sequel of Platinum Game’s first title, MadWorld. Although not as much as one would expect, there is still plenty that separate the titles, in particular is Anarchy Reigns heavy focus on multiplayer gaming and perhaps become to SEGA what Power Stone was for Capcom. Read on after the break to find out what I thought of the game at the recent Eurogamer Expo.

SEGA promoting Sonic Generations via The Simpsons

SEGA is going to put in some big money for Sonic Generations advertisement. Starting October 1st through December 31st you will be able to catch Sonic Generation adverts when the Simpsons go to ad breaks. Yes, SEGA & Sonic Generation are sponsoring new Simpson episodes.

“It’s on air every single day of the week and at a perfect time of day for dads and sons to watch TV.40 per cent of boys will see the idents over 60 times, an incredible frequency.” – SEGA’s UK marketing director Amanda Far

It seems that this is only confirmed for the UK at least. They will air the adverts across SKY 1, SKY HD and SKY Anytime. As for US marketing, they haven’t played their cards right. Don’t think they will be spending big bucks like in the UK, where Sonic is more popular.

Toys R Us: Sonic Generations for under $40, no excuses

The boys at Toys R Us have Sonic Generations for pre-order, for the low price of $37.49. That is pretty damn cheap. The issue here is that its not available in stores and is only online. But they ship your item for free.

Another issue is that the Casino Night pinball stage is exclusive to Gamestop pre-orders. That means that you will most likely have to wait for that DLC to hit PSN/XBLA for a price. But if you don’t care, this is an excellent price.

Project Draco is basically Panzer Dragoon Kinect?

When Project Draco was announced last year at TGS, everyone in the press, including us, thought it was meant to be the spirtual successor to Panzer Dragoon. Not only did the game sound like Panzer Dragoon, a rail shooter with Dragons, but it also had Yukio Futatsugi (known for his work on Panzer Dragoon games) leading the project. It seemed that Microsoft wanted to kill our hopes by saying the game had nothing to do with Panzer Dragoon. But how does it play? We find out this year, since it was shown in playable form for the first time.

“This is totally Panzer Dragoon Kinect. Yukio Futatsugi, who you may remember from Phantom Dust and Panzer Dragoon, is heading up a new team called Grounding Inc., and has brought together various team leads from the former Team Andromeda for this one.” – Says 1up.com

So they already had Yukio Futatsugi, but they are making a team and getting more lead members of Team Andromeda (who did Panzer Dragoon series)? Even though I think the new art style is inferior to the older Panzer Dragoon games.

The game will let players ride up to 5 dragons, have over 150 secondary skills and will have multiplayer (support up to 3 players). Not only that, the game awards the players who get high scores with rare food that you can feed to the dragon to level it up.

Binary Domain’s TGS Stage Show Was Awesome, Watch It Here

Video streaming by Ustream
Yes, Binary Domain had us questioning how good the game would be. Well, that was until we saw their TGS Stage Show for the title, spanning a little over 20 minutes. The gameplay looks awesome and the Japanese voice acting talent has people from the Yakuza franchise returning. As you know, the voice acting in the Yakuza games is fantastic.

But hey, don’t take my word for it. Watch the video above.

Guardian Heroes coming to XBLA on October 12th

We had a false alarm last week, when Major Nelson said that Guardian Heroes was suppose to come out. It actually did come out on Mexico’s XBLA, but was quickly taken down. Now SEGA says we actually have to wait till next month before we get to play Guardian Heroes and its 12 player online co-op.

As for readers, like myself, that would prefer a PSN version, there is nothing to announce at this moment. So if you have an Xbox 360, put down 800pts when this hits the service on October 12th.

SEGA drops prices on some Game on Demand titles

Something I always hated about Games on Demand or any other ‘buy full titles digitally’ on consoles is that they always overprice the game in question. Did you know that Vanquish was $40 dollars? Well was, since SEGA just announced a much needed price drop.

Here are the price drops:

  • Vanquish – $39.99/£29.99   $19.99/£14.99
  • Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing –  $29.99 $19.99
  • Virtua Tennis 2009 – $29.99 $19.99
  • Aliens vs. Predator – $29.99 $19.99
Now these titles are ten dollars under the ‘greatest hits’ or ‘platinum hits’ fee they would normally charge for them new. So they aren’t badly priced anymore.

MEGA64 films their own Rise of Nightmares ad

MEGA64 releases a Rise of Nightmare online commercial, an epic 3 and a half minutes commercial. So if you like wormholes to other dimensions, garbage cans and Dr. Who references; you’re going to love this.

Its always good to see anything from the MEGA64 guys and glad we don’t have to travel dimensions to enjoy good Kinect games.
