Archie Comics announces Sonic Mega Drive – Overdrive, due out March 2017

Archie’s Sonic Mega Drive one shot series of comics have been a huge success. So much so that the first Sonic Mega Drive comic, written by Ian Flynn, with art by Tyson Hesse, Matt Herms and Jack Morelli, sold out. A first for Archie Sonic comics. The follow-up, Sonic: Mega Drive – The Next Level, is due out November 2nd and continues the story, despite being another issue #1. Now, Archie has unveiled the third Sonic Mega Drive, dubbed Overdrive which is set to release March 2017.

Editor Vincent Lovallo had this to say about the third installment in an exclusive interview with blastr: “Overdrive picks up right where The Next Level left off with Sonic and friends on the hunt for the mystical Chaos Emeralds. Their power is the only hope our heroes have at stopping Dr. Eggman’s destructive Mega Drive weapon. Featuring a whopping 30 pages of story, the final chapter of the Mega Drive series arrives in comic shops March 2017. You won’t wanna miss this epic conclusion celebrating 25 years of Sonic!”

Sonic Mega Drive – Overdrive will also be written by Flynn, with art by Hesse, Herms and Morelli. Flynn has confirmed that the Sonic Mega Drive story takes place in the Archie Sonic canon, and the upcoming main series arc will also take place in the classic era.

Archie Comics reveals Sonic the Hedgehog origin story arc – could classic Sonic be making a comeback?

Over the past few days, the Archie Comics Twitter account has been revealing pieces of a cover for an upcoming issue of Sonic the Hedgehog which features the 25th anniversary logo and classic Sonic doing his iconic Sonic the Hedgehog ending pose. Archie, knowing fans were most interested in the issue number and the name of the arc, kept those two details hidden until the final reveals. But now we have confirmation that following the completion of the “Panic in the Sky” arc, which is the conclusion of the larger Shattered World storyline, Archie will be jumping way back to the origins of Sonic the Hedgehog with issue 288 in the arc titled “Genesis of a Hero”.

SEGA and Archie Comics announce Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary one-shot comic book

Via Comic Book Resources comes the announcement of a new one-shot comic book from Archie Comics and SEGA, entitled SONIC: MEGA DRIVE. The standalone story is being written by Ian Flynn with illustrations by Tyson Heese of Boxer Hockey fame. Tyson had been teasing something over the past few months, and it seems this is it!

The story is said to feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and other characters from in the Genesis/Mega Drive era, and Flynn is crafting the story as though it is a never before seen Genesis-era Sonic game. Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog July 2015 Solicitations – Worlds Unite heats up!

Direct from Archie Comics comes the latest solicits for what Sonic and Mega Man fans can expect for July, and if the covers and descriptions are any indication, general SEGA and Capcom fans should also pay close attention to what is to come. As the Sonic and Mega Man crossover Worlds Unite heats up, several other franchises from the famous video game companies join the fray including Golden Axe, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Ōkami, NiGHTS, Street Fighter, Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon, Monster Hunter 4 and more! If that’s not enough, another milestone issue is hit with Sonic The Hedgehog #275 which features a whopping six different collectible covers and the special one-off Sonic: Worlds Unite Battles expands the crossover story with even more pages dedicated to classic characters duking it out.

Archie Comics have sent out the latest comic solicitations, highlighting what SEGA and Sonic fans can expect from the publisher in May! With the epic Sonic and Mega Man crossover incoming, Capcom’s Mega Man books will be a must read for those who want to follow the event, meaning throughout the crossover we’ll be highlighting the Mega Man titles that fall under the Worlds Unite umbrella. A look at Mobius: The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia

Archie has been publishing Sonic the Hedgehog comics since way back in 1992, making it the longest running video-game based comic ever. Now, to celebrate they will be releasing a complete Sonic comic encyclopedia entitled Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia.

The book will be feature 192 pages of content in a 6×9 trade paperback book. This book will include exclusive information not yet revealed in comics as well as character and location information and much more about Sonic’s comic universe.
