SEGA Announces Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Ignites New Controversy [UPDATE: SEGA Clarifies]

Update 6/8: Kotaku has asked series creator and the lead of Crazy Taxi: World Tour what exact role AI played in the game’s development and this was his answer: “We used it as a reference. So our artists would pull up [and] generate some of their ideas and then they would look at that, you know, generated image and then they would draw the actual thing. So actual creators, everything from programming to assets, everything is made by an actual human. It’s only used as a reference for them to look at and then they would actually create the actual thing that would go into the game.”

Original article:

SEGA has officially announced the next entry in the Crazy Taxi franchise: Crazy Taxi: World Tour, coming in 2027 to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The trailer (shown above) was revealed during this year’s Xbox Showcase, three years after the game was first announced back in 2023.

So, what do I think of the trailer and gameplay? Incredible. It looks amazing, and I can’t wait to play it.

So what’s the controversy? If you check the Steam page, there’s an AI Generated Content Disclosure at the bottom of the game’s description:

“At SEGA Corporation, we utilize generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks.

We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game”

This disclaimer has caused a huge uproar within the anti-AI community and it’s a complex issue. Some point out that these tools are used to speed up repetitive coding tasks, and as you can read here, SEGA has been fairly open about not using AI to replace creatives, including voice actors and artists.

But how do you all feel about it?

The wait to own a physical copy of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds for Nintendo Switch 2, one that actually has the game on the card, is nearly over. Mark March 26th, 2026 on your calendars.

While Sonic Racing: Crossworlds had already been available as a native Nintendo Switch 2 game, complete with an upgrade pack for owners of the original Nintendo Switch version, since December 2025, it was only available digitally. (You can still buy the upgrade pack if you had a physical Nintendo Switch 1 version.) If you’ve been waiting for a native Nintendo Switch 2 game card, then pre-orders have just opened up for it. The pre-order price sits at $69.99 USD. Currently, only Amazon has a pre-order page open, but other retailers are sure to follow soon. You can check Sega’s own Sonic Racing: Crossworlds website for the most up to date information on where you can pre-order or where you can order any other version of the game.

As an added bonus, Sega have also made the Blue Star Extreme Gear DLC available for free on all platforms. (Currently it isn’t live on the Nintendo eShop, but this could be an error. Sonic Racing: Crossworlds physical copies for Nintendo Switch 2 confirmed not to be Game Key-Cards; two new trailers uploaded

In a recent FAQ regarding, specifically, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the upcoming Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, Sega confirmed the physical versions of the game will not be on a Game Key-Card. The entire base game will instead be built into a standard game card with no downloads required besides free patches as they come. This also makes it Sega’s first Nintendo Switch 2 game to not be sold in retail stores as a Game Key-Card. You can check here to see the other games they launched as Game Key-Cards and learn how those are different, and less desirable, from regular physical releases.

In addition, the physical Switch 2 version will not be available until early 2026, while the digital release will come on Holiday 2025. All other versions of the game will launch on September 25th, 2025 as planned.

In the very same FAQ, Sega also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 1 version of the game, whether physical or digital, will include the option of a $10 USD purchase to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version later on. Using this upgrade option will also allow you to carry over any save data and paid DLC, including pre-order bonuses, from Switch to Switch 2 with ease. This should all serve as excellent news to anyone considering either the Switch or Switch 2 versions of the game.

At the same time, Sega have aired two new trailers, as well as shown some of their special pre-order DLC bonuses. Check in after the break to see those.

“Stranger Than Heaven” is the Official Title for RGG Studio’s “Project Century”

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, fresh off the critical and commercial success of their Yakuza/Like a Dragon series and currently developing a new Virtua Fighter title, has officially named their previously teased “Project Century” as “Stranger than Heaven.”

This new action game, from one of SEGA’s most prominent studios, features an interesting historical setting. Although an initial teaser trailer placed the game in 1912, the most recent trailer also indicates at a 1943 setting. This transitional period in Japan’s history promises a rich and dynamic backdrop for the gameplay.

A key element of the game seems to be the protagonist’s journey through these distinct time periods. His striking blue eyes appear to be a consistent visual thread, visible on the younger character featured in the 1912 teaser and again on the older gentleman in the 1943 trailer. You can checkout the 1912 teaser below.
