    Yakuza 4 is the most structurally ambitious of the pre-dragon-engine games — four protagonists, four fighting styles, and that rooftop finale. Akiyama’s chapter still plays great because the aerial-style combat made encounters feel completely different from Kiryu’s brawling. The Septennial Search subplot drags in the middle but the payoff in the final chapters is worth it. Great pick for a retro deep-dive; this is exactly the era of the series that deserves more retrospective coverage.
