Aliens: Colonial Marines’ escape mode announced today

SEGA America has announced “Escape mode” which will be a new competitive multiplayer mode for Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines. The new mode will take a team of four Marines and pit them against a four person Xenomorph team. The goal for the Marines is to work together to escape the map, there will be a time limit so your actions are crucial. As the opposing team, the Xenomorph, your job is to destroy marines.

The new mode will be playable at this year’s PAX 2012 event. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Taiko Drum Master to be a playable arcade unit in Yakuza 5

SEGA loves adding real world brand collaborations in the Yakuza series. This time around SEGA is collaborating with Namco Bandai to have their game Taiko Drum Master appear as a playable arcade unit in Yakuza 5.

The arcade unit will allow you to select from a handful of songs, including Mappy Ondo, Nijiiro Yumeiro and Shinsekai Yori. This was announced on this week’s Famitsu as a part of looking back at ten years of Taiko Drum Master. The issue also included a picture of our tan hero Toshihiro Nagoshi playing a Taiko arcade unit. So rare.

Sony puts out a PS3 HD remaster trailer showing off Yakuza 1&2 HD

This trailer was posted a few nights ago about was taken down by Sony for unknown reasons. Don’t worry, the trailer is back up now. This is the first footage of Yakuza 1&2 HD I have seen yet. What do you guys think?

You can also see Zone of Enders HD Collection, Okami HD and that Ratchet and Clank HD collection. These last three HD remakes have been confirmed for Western release, Yakuza 1&2 has not, sadly.

Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition Trailer

Sega will release a remastered version of Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 exclusively for the PS3, the remastered version boasts HD graphics and a much needed cut in loading times for both games. Will it head West? It’s hard to say at the moment, we don’t really know Sega’s plans for Yakuza in North America and Europe but we can all hope, right? Heck I would take it as a PSN digital download if it meant we could get it in English.

The Yakuza series is one of my favourite new IPs from Sega in recent years, it’s such a shame that with each new release it feels like another heart ache over weather it’ll receive a Western release. Let’s hope Sega West sees the potential in the Yakuza series and continues to support it for years to come because by the looks of Yakuza 5, it’s not going anywhere.

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD confirmed by Famitsu

We posted the rumor, now it’s confirmed. SEGA is planning on releasing Yakuza 1&2 HD for the Playstation 3. The issue states that both HD remakes are set to release on November 1st, with a price of ¥5,290 (about $67 dollars). November 1st date is a month earlier than what SEGA had in their release schedule, but can’t complain about getting games early, right?

Rumor: Yakuza 1 & 2 HD coming out this December in Japan?

This screen above was from SEGA Japan’s calendar, which now has been taken down. It shows that the company is planning on bringing Yakuza 1 & 2 HD to the Playstation 3. Could it have been a mistake? I think this rumor will come out to be true for one reason. Yakuza makes money. Not to mention SEGA wants to do more digital releases.

Think about it this way, what will sell more? This or those SEGA AGES re-releases?

Fans unhappy about lack of female characters in Colonial Marines multiplayer

It seems that many are unhappy about the character creation system in Aliens: Colonial Marines’ multiplayer mode, specifically, in its lack of female options. It’s a strange thing indeed, especially given the importance females have played in the Alien films: according to Gearbox, however, though your multiplayer character will be customizable, you’ll only have the option to create a male.

A petition written by Aliens fan and female video gamer Melissa K has received close to 2,000 signatures since early June and can be viewed after the break. In it, she affirms her support for Gearbox Software, and specifies that their position is not one of outrage, but of something that they feel is a core part of the Aliens franchise and should be addressed.

What do you think? Should Gearbox change the multiplayer (even if it means delaying the game yet again) to allow for female characters, or is their (confirmed) presence in the game’s single-player enough? Leave your comments below and Continue Reading to check out the petition.
