Above is a very short YouTube video showing Kazuma Kiryu in Binary Domain. He is only available for the multiplayer portion of the game and has nothing to do with the story, as far as we know. Got to say, he is looking good for being over a hundred years old.
SEGA’s next big Sonic game is centered around his 20th anniversary. Even though Sonic started off this console generation with some awful games, Sonic Team has been learning from their mistakes and perfecting their skills. Have they finally delivered the Sonic game that all their fans want?
Don’t get me wrong, I love how Binary Domain is looking. But if I never heard of Binary Domain and was just going off of box art, I wouldn’t pick this game up. The box art looks way too cheesy.
This is the confirmed cover for both America and Europe. Hopefully SEGA sees their mistake and changes it. What do you guys think? I’m I being a negative Sally?
Check out the Sonic Generations launch trailer, not long to wait now!
The game is generally scoring in the 8/10 region, which I think is well deserved.
Of course there is always one isn’t there? This time Tim Turi of Game Informer was the culprit. He took all but 4 minutes out of his life to write four paragraphs and call it a professional review. He gave Sonic Generations 6.75/10, I won’t provide a link to the ‘review’ because he decided to spoil the ending in it.
His reason for giving the game a mediocre rating? Apparently all post Dreamcast era levels ruin the game for him! Yep, somehow the aesthetic alone or perhaps simply knowing they are from post Dreamcast era has made the level design terrible. I suspect that Tim didn’t get the memo that they aren’t actually the SAME levels, they simply share the same aesthetic as the original levels.
GETTA LOADA THIS:
“Why would Sega pass up full level tributes to Sonic 3 or Sonic CD in favor of a remixed version of a stage from Sonic Colors, which released only a year ago?”
Game Informer.
I’m actually convinced that some critics wouldn’t know what made a good Sonic game if it hit them in the face. Was the concept of celebrating 20 years of Sonic lost on this guy? And why pick Planet Wisp of all levels to take out his misguided anger on? One of the best Sonic Levels in recent memory… There used to be something very wrong with Sonic games, now there is something wrong with videogame critics. I can’t believe they get paid for this shit- what a Joke.
In contrast, GameTrailers’ review was fantastic, it not only highlighted the best parts of the game, it mentioned the real issues too and does so in a truly professional manor. My hat is off to you GameTrailers!
Nagoshi had another live event, one which he likes to call “”Nagonama”. This time around he answered some personal questions, along with giving a few new details about the upcoming Yakuza 5.
Yakuza 5 will take place in Kamurocho, but there will also be a second city added to the mix. Right now they are considering Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
Nagoshi refused to confirm if the game will have multi-heroes or single hero.
No idea if there will be hostess additions for this game like the past couple installments.
Nagoshi says it’s unthinkable having a Yakuza game without Kazuma. He says he is like the Mario character of the series.
Nagoshi has stated he wants to make a prequel, like “chapter zero” detailing the past of the Tojo Clan.
As for personal questions, he has stated his favorite vegetable is tomatoes, his favorite candy is gummy and he sleeps with his cat (like actual sleeping, no perverted stuff). Also he says that he used to play in a band in college and is pretty confident in his singing voice. Sounds good.
If you buy Overkill Extended Cut from one of your local Gamestops, you will get Altered Beast for free on PSN. That is like, $5 dollar savings. The deal ends on Halloween.
Lets be honest, this is a great excuse to pick up Overkill and play it through on Halloween; obviously after you finish stealing your little brother’s hard earned candy.
SEGA has revealed that the same team that ported Virtua Fighter 5, Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, After Burner Climax and Virtual On Force will be porting Daytona USA to XBLA and PSN. I think it has been stated around here and other places that AM2 were behind the ports, but it seems this is not 100% true. According to producer Toru Murayama, the team is being called “AM Port Team”. Sounds good to me!
The blog post that the producer posted says they want to keep the same atmosphere and controls of the original. Even though the game will keep the same 3D models, they changed the rest of the visuals to be enhanced for HD.
SEGA have revealed their multiplayer modes and classes that will be in Binary Domain. Starting off with the classes, we have what you expect from slow moving characters like the heavy gunner to the sniper class like Recon.
It seems that the max players allowed to play at once in Binary Domain is 10. That seems rather low. SEGA is set to bring all those modes we expect in these type of games. Like Capture the Flag (renamed Data Capture) and team death match. For those that like to play together, SEGA has also confirmed the existence of Invasion. Which is basically like Horde Mode from Gears of War.
SEGA has begun to ramp up their hype building for Sonic Generation as the release date comes ever closer. Speaking with preGame in their studio, SEGA’s brand manager Aaron Webber discussed and played through Sonic Generations in an interview roughly over 30 minutes long that featured large amounts of new footage with the above video showing modern Sky Sanctuary.
In it, they discuss about the development process of the game, how various fans have helped with the input in the game and of course, played through modern Sky Sanctuary and Seaside Hill. What is interesting to note from both these modern stages is the amount of alternate paths in 3D and the amount of the stage designed in 3D itself. With release of the game only a few weeks away, SEGA has released another new trailer showcasing the bosses from their next mainline Sonic titles. The short trailer has virtually all the bosses and rivals from the title and hints at the final boss in the end. It is interesting to note that classic Sonic only has two boss battles announced thus far into the game, whilst modern Sonic has four boss battles.
Above is a satirical look at what Sonic Generations’ plot will most likely be. Not saying that the game will be terrible, but let’s be honest… Sonic Team isn’t the best at writing video game material.
One of SEGA’s all time arcade classics, Daytona USA, has been announced for XBLA and PSN. The title has for sometime been confirmed to be coming through the ratings board and a competition video SEGA made last week, but the company today officially confirmed that Daytona USA will be coming out with its original name to boot.
The game will be priced at $9.99 for XBLA and PSN and the publisher has confirmed that the original soundtrack will be available. Online multiplayer, racing wheel and widescreen support has all been confirmed. Click after the break to get the full press release and release dates.
A new batch of pictures recently released showcases Sonic the Hedgehog’s rival from the modern era, and he’s none other than Silver the Hedgehog. The character’s first appearence was in the critical and commercial failure Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 and is seen to be in the single stage that has been brought back to represent that title, Crisis City.
It is interesting to note that of the bosses and rivals revealed so far, Silver is the only one thus far without a unique boss arena for him to battle in. It is also another boss battle that would require you to control modern Sonic. Click after the break to check out the rest of the images.
According to a job advertisement listed at Gameasutra (now taken down), suggest that SEGA and Gearbox Software are outsourcing the level design of Aliens: Colonial Marines to Timesgate Studios. They are known for their work on the Section 8: Prejudiced.
The advertisement that TimeGate put up stated that they are “looking to expand its team of ultimate badasses working on Aliens: Colonial Marines,” specifically wanted people for level design and user interface.
Back in June, Pitchford talked about the studio looking for development partners for the the game. He suggested some of them put some great ideas on the table. Should be interesting to see, Timegate Studios have improved and their game Section 8: Prejudice was recieved rather well by critics. I see this as a positive.
