SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage, the third and final title in the SEGA 3D Archives trilogy, has recently been released in Japan on December 22nd. Naturally when a new game is released on a Nintendo console, it will gain a complimentary Miiverse community in order to distribute comments or images. But the most interesting aspect about the Miiverse community is the English page, which calls the game “SEGA 3D Classics Collection 2”.

If the name is to be believed, this would mean that SEGA is planning a global release for the 3rd game, similar to how they localized the 2nd game as SEGA 3D Classics Collection in North America and later Europe. This would also mean that the first title would be the only title that remains Japan exclusive. As for the bonus games Girl’s Garden and Champion Boxing that require the previous games to be unlocked, it’s unknown how that would be handled.

However, as of this writing, no official word from SEGA has been given.

Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage features two unlockable bonus games from SEGA legends

Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage is due out December 22nd in Japan, but leading up to the release we learned of some cool surprises via Famitsu. if your handheld contains save data from Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives, you’ll unlock Girl’s Garden, a 1984 SG-1000 game notable for being the first game Yuji Naka worked on. Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 2 save data, meanwhile, will unlock another 1984 SG-1000 game: Champion Boxing. SEGA super fans know that Champion Boxing is the first game coded by Yu Suzuki in his first year at SEGA.

Not a bad deal! Two bonus games from two SEGA legends early in their careers.

New SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage trailer shows off introduction, Alien Syndrome, and Columns in action

SEGA has released a new trailer for SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage, the third collection in the “3D Archive” series. This trailer demonstrates every game in the collection, including Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Bare Knuckle 2, After Burner II, and more, most notably the first time Alien Syndrome and Columns are shown in action. It also reveals the introduction of the game, highlighting the different games in SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage.

SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage (by extension the special SEGA 3D Archives 1.2.3 Triple Pack) releases on December 22 for ‎¥4990.

SEGA establishes SEGA GAMES CS in Taiwan, localizing select games in traditional Chinese

SEGA establishes a new division in Taiwan called SEGA GAMES CS. The goal of the division is to push localizations in the Taiwan region in traditional Chinese. During a meeting, many titles have already been announced to be localized by the end of 2016 and the start of 2017, with some having a tentative release date sometime in 2017. Notably, it contains games that have not been announced for a western release as of this writing, for example Puyo Puyo Chronicles and Yakuza 6. This move to push for a Taiwan market with SEGA GAMES CS is likely a result of SEGA (specifically SEGA of Japan) prioritizing the Asian market, with SEGA Taiwan specifically existing since at least 2014.

Famitsu details SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage and Puyo Puyo Chronicles

The latest issue of Famitsu has dropped information on the recently revealed Alien Syndrome and Columns in SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage, and more information on Puyo Puyo Chronicles.

Alien Syndrome will be based on the original arcade version, while Columns is based on the arcade perfect SEGA Genesis port. In addition, it reveals the final boxart of the game with Ken Sugimori’s signature artwork of Alien Syndrome‘s Mary. It also shows miscellaneous screenshots for both games along with the previously revealed Thunder Force III.

Puyo Puyo Chronicles reveals some new information. It confirms the characters Rider, Maguro, and Dongurigaeru will make an appearance, along with official artwork of Sig. It also goes into more detail about a snowland, confirms every multiplayer mode, and shows a glimpse at the RPG and multiplayer menus.

Alien Syndrome and Columns added to SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage

Columns and Alien Syndrome

The final two bonus titles for SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage have been revealed, which is the arcade game Alien Syndrome and Columns. Alien Syndrome being an arcade game released in 1987 with an overhead prospective similar to Gauntlet, where as Ricky or Mary you’re tasked with finding a certain amount of the hostages in a level while killing aliens with varies types of weapons. Once you get enough, you can reach the exit and fight the boss. Columns is a dropping block sort of puzzle game in the same vein as Tetris, the twist being you can only rotate vertically, with the task of simply trying to get a high enough score.

While these choices may sound random at first, they were mentioned before. This interview with M2 staff members talked about how Columns was once considered for SEGA 3D Archives 2 (Aka SEGA 3D Classics Collection) before settling on Puyo Puyo Tsu instead, and also mentions they wanted to do Alien Syndrome thinking stereoscopic 3D would be effective.

Tokyo Game Show 2016: SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage debut trailer

SEGA at Tokyo Game Show 2016 unveiled the first trailer for SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage, showing off footage of the currently 6 revealed games. This includes Sonic the Hedgehog 2, After Burner II, Super Hang-On, Bare Knuckle II (Aka Streets of Rage 2 in the NTSC/PAL regions), Gunstar Heroes, and the new exclusive Turbo Outrun. Notably, it specifically mentions that Turbo Outrun will run at 60FPS, so no worries for those frame rate junkies out there. Sadly, the trailer doesn’t reveal any new information, so if you want to know what the mysterious last 3 games are you’ll have to wait longer.

SEGA 3D Archives 3: Final Stage will release on the Nintendo 3DS on December 22nd 2016 in Japan.

SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE getting 3D Turbo Outrun

TurboOutrunThe best things about these SEGA 3D Archives/SEGA 3D Classics Collections is that they always announce a few new digital titles to make fans want to purchase the physical copy of the game. If you didn’t know, SEGA announced SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE with five returning SEGA 3D Classics titles, but also teased a fan poll on what Japanese fans wanted in the collection. While they didn’t show what came in at number one, it is now been revealed to be Turbo Outrun!

Not only that, Turbo Outrun will also be a timed exclusive game for the physical release of SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE which is set to have 9 total titles in the collection. That means that there are still three more titles to announce before SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE releases on December 22, 2016 for 4,990 yen (about $48 USD), SEGA is also planning a SEGA 3D Archives triple pack for 8,990 yen (about $86 USD). Of course SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE hasn’t been confirmed for a western release but I hear Turbo Outrun wants to make America great again.

SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE compilation announced for Nintendo 3DS

It has just been announced that SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE, a physical collection of SEGA 3D Classics will be coming to Japan. In the West, we only got SEGA 3D Archives 2 as SEGA 3D Classics Collection earlier this year.

Games confirmed in SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE:

  • After Burner II
  • Super Hang-On
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Gunstar Heroes 
  • More to come

According to SEGA’s questionnaire that Japanese fans filled out lots of people want to see titles like Wing War, Gain Ground, Outrunners, and Virtua Racing to join the SEGA 3D Classics line-up. Famitsu didn’t reveal which was the number one requested game, you will have to wait for September 15 to find out since that’s when their magazine comes out. But let me spoil it for you, I bet you it was Virtua Fighter. SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE could get new timed exclusive titles, just like the last volume had Puyo Puyo 2 and Drift Stage as timed exclusives. SEGA 3D Archives 3 FINAL STAGE is set to hit Japan on December 22, 2016. No idea if SEGA West will plan on bringing it over.
