Ecco the Dolphin fan soundtrack up for download

Ecco
ECCOS was shown last year,  creator Andrew Norman Wilson took gameplay footage of the SEGA Genesis game and modified the music in Final Cut Pro. He changed the speed and added echo effects, making it a very different beast from the original soundtrack. Andrew calls it “Furniture music”, not mean’t to be on its own but serve as background noise.

Now Andrew has released the ECCOS soundtrack, you can download seven-tracks, 48-minutes of furniture music. If you are interested in seeing his art project, called ‘Center for Wave Change’, check it out here.

Yakuza Week: Favorite Yakuza 4 tunes

In celebration of…I guess we’re calling it Yakuza Week, (rad) I figured it would be appropriate to dedicate some time to the music of the recently-released Yakuza 4. Their soundtracks have been one area that this series has always excelled in, and Yakuza 4 is certainly no exception. The adrenaline-pumping and guitar-heavy soundtrack returns, of course, as do the power balads, and let’s not forget those crazy Japanese karaoke songs. Here are some of the songs I found to be memorable in Yakuza 4, and I encourage you to post/discuss yours in the comments section below!

Napoleon: Total War soundtrack nominated for Ivors award

The Ivor Novello awards, which only nominates British (or Irish) composers, is back this year. They do awards for stuff like TV, Movies and even, in our case, video games. Nominated for best game soundtrack? Napoleon: Total War.

So what’s the competition? Enslaved got nominated and so did 007: Blood Stone. Guess who the composer for the 007 game is? Richard Jacques, who also did a lot of music for SEGA, including the latest Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing soundtrack.

Wavemaster releasing a Sonic 20th Anniversary album?

Sonic’s 20th is gaining momentum! First SEGA teasing about the anniversary game, then prototype photos of Jazwares action figures and now a placeholder site for a music album! Looks like SEGA’s Wavemaster has a Sonic 20th Anniversary album planned as evidenced by this recently revealed teaser page www.wave-master.com/sonic20th. Nothing there just yet, except for the above image. A variety of Sonic soundtracks have released under the Wavemaster label, but this is the first time they have created a franchise spanning album. As Wavemaster albums are often two disc affairs, I have no doubt a 20th Anniversary album will be two discs as well.

I’m hoping the potential album gives equal representation of all the years and covers a variety of games. It would be awesome to hear some rarities, such as demo tracks and unreleased tunes. Remixes of old classics would also be pretty sweet. What would you like to hear in a Sonic 20th soundtrack? Sound off below! Any mention of Bentley Jones will result in severe punishment.

Sonic Colors soundtrack comes West

The Sonic Colors soundtrack, titled Vivid Sound x Hybrid Colors, is heading to both North America and Europe. If you’re expecting a sexy CD package, though, I’m here to give you bad news: this is coming here digitally.
For North America, you can already buy the album via iTunes. Europe and Japan should have them up shortly. The soundtrack will feature all 82 tracks from the game, spanning 3 discs. You can buy each disc separate, since they will be labeled ‘Vol.1 through Vol. 3’.

Price? Per track: $1.29 / £0.99, Per Disc: $9.99 / £7.99. So about $30 dollars for the full soundtrack.

From Famitsu’s online store,  Japanese consumers will be able to purchase a special ‘Famitsu DX bundle’ version of Yakuza of the End. The bundle will include, along with the copy of the game, an awesome-looking stainless steel tumbler.

If that wasn’t enough, Japanese consumers who pre-order the game right now will be given the “Yakuza Karaoke Best Selection” soundtrack for free.

Damn must feel good living in Japan and getting neat extras like this, in America they cut content and give you ‘free updates’ as pre-order bonuses.

Lamb of God writing a song for Iron Man 2

SEGA has signed up two time Grammy-Nominated heavy metal band Lamb of God to write a song for their upcoming Iron Man 2 video game. The song being used in the game is going be completely new and written exclusively for the game.

“The music of Lamb of God definitely evokes the intensity of Iron Man action and we are very excited to have them working with us for the game, This new track will add even more atmosphere to the cinematic gaming experience that Iron Man 2 brings to the table.” – Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America.
