PSN Plus Subscribers get Virtua Fighter 5 for free

Starting later today, PSN Plus members will receive a plethora of free games. One of them appears to be Virtua fighter 5! Is it the new Final Showdown? I doubt Sega would allow the old one up when they could make money off the DLC of the characters, so I’m 99.9% sure it is. If you’re not already a PSN+ member, now’s the best time!

SEGA’s list of E3 games goes live

SEGA has posted a list of games they will have at E3. Sadly a few games that are expected are not included. Yep, Anarchy Reigns is missing and Phantasy Star Online 2 is nowhere to be found. I assume some are missing due to being unannounced, like Sonic Adventure 2. Anyway, check out the ‘confirmed’ titles for E3 this year.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown dated, priced and DLC revealed!

SEGA has released a press release detailing everything we wanted to know about Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown’s… erm, release. The game will launch on June 5th, for PSN and June 6th for XBLA. Prices will be $14.99/ £9.99/ AUD$18.25/ €12.99 on PSN and 1,200 Microsoft Points on XBLA. As for DLC, check the deatils for that and more in the full press release after the break!

Petition: Let’s ask SEGA for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown on Steam!

With the surprise announcement of SEGA’s third person shooter Binary Domain heading to Steam, SEGAbits member Pao/Riki has taken it on himself to start a petition for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown for Steam too. Now from my own opinion, anything that can help boost the potential sales for Virtua Fighter whilst allowing the core gameplay and style to stay intact is a-ok to me. With no other major fighting game released on the PC for some time now, this could be great boost for the series’ popularity so if you happen to be a Steam user who wants to get your voice heard to get one of the best fighting games available on PC, then sign the petition!

The Weekly Five: The Games of 2012

Last week we shared our favorite games of 2011, and while we didn’t officially announce winners or give out some award for SEGA to stick on their box art (I’d imagine we’d award a gold Opa Opa statue nicknamed “the bitty”), the “winners” deserve another mention. Sonic Generations and Yakuza 4 were the top picks, while Guardian Heroes was picked as an excellent download release. Shinobi for the 3DS also earned a spot on the list. Other notable games included Shogun 2, Sonic CD, Daytona USA, Virtua Tennis 4 and Football Manager 2012. Overall, 2011 was a great year! Being only a week into it, 2012 is still young. However, SEGA has a number of great looking releases on the horizon. In this week’s Weekly Five we’ll look at five of those hotly anticipated titles. Could any of these become our favorites of 2012? Probably.

SEGA announces Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for PSN and XBLA

SEGA has at long last announced Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for consoles. The release of the title has been a long time coming, with various fans wishing to play the definitive version of the title, but now we have official confirmation that Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown will be coming to consoles. SEGA will be releasing the title in Summer 2012 and it will be downloadable as a standalone title off of Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network with no price plan revealed at the moment. Click on after the break for the press release and an interview, with trailer, provided to Gamespot.

Virtua Fighter gets El Shaddai crossover

[Example: Jean’s title says “Daijoubuda” (It’s okay) and Goh’s says “Mondainai” (No problem). Both popular El Shaddai phrases.]

SEGA and Ignition have struck up a deal for an odd crossover between El Shaddai and SEGA’s successful arcade fighter Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.

The crossover will have some of El Shaddai’s most known phrases and when the user clears certain conditions in VF, you’ll unlock the phrases as titles (which appear under your character’s picture).

Never heard of the “El Shaddai” franchise, so I did a quick google search. Hey Ignition, this crossover already worked, since you got +1 more person google searching your game.

VF5 Final Showdown update hits arcades next month

The new issue of Arcadia teases a new Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown update. They gave out some information.

  • The release window for the new update is April. Most likely to released before Golden Week.
  • The bound system will be reworked, no longer allowing you to bound a character more than once. Issue with the current build is that wall combos can take off up to 50% of your health, now when it’s down the second time they won’t bounce as high and stay closer to the ground.
  • All characters will be tweaked for better balance. Here is a promotional video teasing new the changes.
  • VF.net service will be upgraded. The match videos users create will now have info displayed if you turn on the ‘frame data display.’

This is all the information that we know about the newest update. We here at SEGAbits are still waiting for our console port. Lets do this SEGA. Hit the jump to see the top 10 played arcades according to Arcadia.

Most played character in Virtua Fighter 5 arcades?

Above is the chart, hitting number one is my favorite character Jacky. He really is faster than lighting. This data ends on February 9th, so its a bit old.

For all the hype that Taka-arashi was brought back, its weird seeing him way down in last place. You have it folks, Jacky should be the new face of Virtua Fighter, sorry Akira!

Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown ver. A gets trailer

Its pretty impressive how well this game has held the test of time. Very nice graphics still. The trailer shows off the players moves and combo chains for the upcoming version.

But what is this in the end… a playable Dural? I’m intrigued, now give me my damn console port.

SEGA shows off early AOU 2011 lineup

SEGA has opened up a site portal to tease us on what to expect at AOU 2011. Of course, they won’t reveal their secret titles on their site, you have to be there! What we do know is that this year’s theme is “Real Entertainment.”
As for confirmed titles to be shown:

  • SEGA Card-Gen MLB 2010
  • Network Taisen Quiz Answer x Answer Live!
  • Border Break: Air Burst
  • Shining Force Cross: Raid
  • Hatsune Miku Project Diva Arcade ver. A
  • Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

Issues? All of these titles are old. I assume all new titles will be revealed at the show. SEGA has debuted games like Project Diva and Block People at AOU so don’t be shocked to get some new games this year.

AOU 2011 will be held on February 18th and 19th. If anything sexy is announced we will have it on this blog, along with exclamation marks.
