Time Eater Pumpkin Says: “Happy Halloween from SEGAbits!”

Happy Halloween! To celebrate the release of Sonic Generations, I thought it would be fitting to carve a Time Eater pumpkin (code name: Peter Peter Pumpkin Time Eater). I carved this baby up over the weekend, during a very bizarre east coast snow storm. Fitting that the city was covered in white the same day that I carved a Time Eater. I’m kicking myself now for not taking a photo of it in the snow, but if I come across a time hole, I’ll make sure to jump back to Saturday to snap the photo. You can’t see it so well in the above shot, but I carved the lid in the shape of a clock gear. After the break, more Time Eater Pumpkin photos!

Rumor: Sonic Dimensions in development for Wii U, Sonic Colors spiritual successor

So, a rumor for a new Sonic game? Not surprising, but this rumor comes with a bunch of details that seem very possible, actually I’d be shocked if this isn’t mostly correct. The title, Sonic Dimensions, is a working title, so that will most likely change.

The game is supposed to take place after Sonic Generations and be the ‘spiritual successor’ to Sonic Colors. Sonic Dimensions is said to take advantage of some Wii U’s specific capabilities, including using the touch screen to activate powers and destroy enemies. Hopefully we can turn this off and not use it. It’s also said to have 4 player multiplayer. The story will be another time-space continuum one. Oh boy.

The game will have Sonic change colors, with each color supposed to represent a new personality for Sonic. Blue Sonic, of course, will be the core Sonic and will be the uniting figure for all the other colors. Five colors are rumored:

Shinobi 3DS – 12 Minutes of Gameplay

I’m still not convinced that this is the way I wanted Shinobi to return, considering how great Shinobi could be on a HD console. Still I am glad that it has returned! Whilst there are some design choices that I’m not a fan of (namely the combo scores that pop-up all over the screen instead of tidily in the corner) I think they’ve gotten a lot of things right and have captured a lot of what made Shinobi 3 such an awesome game.

Project “HELL YEAH!” (ARKEDO + SEGA)

Today ARKEDO and Sega have announced a project together, the project is called Project “Hell Yeah!” and that’s about all we know about the game.

On THEIR BLOG they give away a little bit of information, the first morsel comes in the form of three pictures, the first is above the second two you will see when you hit the jump. One of them says ‘MONSTERS …Lots of them.’ the other asks if you have seen ‘this dead rabbit’.

If you’ve never heard of ARKEDO here is some info from Wikipedia:

“Arkedo Studio is a French independent videogame developer, founded in 2006 by Camille Guermonprez and Aurélien Régard. The company released their first game, Nervous Brickdown for the Nintendo DS, in 2007. They followed that game with 2009’s Big Bang Mini—also for DS, and then later OMG: Our Manic Game for Windows Mobil. The company’s founding goal was to be “as small as possible”, while still creating “‘real’ games – in boxes, with a manual”. The company’s owners have sought to retain the rights to their intellectual properties; as of January 2010, they continue to hold them all.”

SEGAbits Halloween Playlist

Believe it or not, the day before Sonic Generations releases there’s a little holiday going on called Halloween. Everybody has their own Halloween traditions, mine focus on pumpkin carving and scary movies. This year I thought I’d mix things up by throwing video games into the mix, specifically five games with a Halloween slant, each played on a different SEGA console. What follows are the five games I’ll be playing over the Halloweekend, and I hope if you have any of them you’ll revisit them as well.

Trailer: GunLord

NG:Dev recently released a new trailer for their upcoming Dreamcast/Neo Geo game, and while its production values may not be much to look at, the actual game play looks pretty damn good. It’s nice to finally have a new shoot em up platformer on the Dreamcast. What do you think of the game? Tells us about it on the forums!

Sonic Generations has the most pre-orders in Sonic history!

Sonic! He can really move….pre-orders that is. Sega has announced today that Sonic Generations has topped all previous Sonic pre-orders to date. Possibly part of the reason for this has been their huge push of this title.

SEGA is proud to announce that Sonic Generations has exceeded all previous pre-order records from the 20 year Sonic catalog.  This has made Sonic Generations the most anticipated title in the Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic history.    SEGA has also invested in a number of high-profile brand initiatives surround the anniversary and the games launch.

SEGA in the Media: “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” doesn’t have SEGA

With the Jurassic Park trilogy releasing on blu-ray this week, I thought it would be a fitting time to highlight a nod to SEGA in the second film “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”. An actual SEGA console does not appear, but our beloved gaming company does get a mention in the dialogue. While preparing to leave for another island filled with dinosaurs, Ian Malcolm is trying to persuade his daughter to go and stay with a friend of his. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to go for a number of reasons, but the main one is that the woman “doesn’t have SEGA”. To quote Muldoon from the first film: “Clever girl.” Interestingly, I did not find this line of dialogue in the film’s script, so it looks like it was something added on the day of shooting. Perhaps Spielberg wanted to infuse a real world issue a kid would have, and staying with somebody who doesn’t have a SEGA is a great reason to not want to go. Perhaps they should get the girl a Game Gear or a Nomad?

Nagoshi shares some new details about Yakuza 5

Nagoshi had  another live event, one which he likes to call “”Nagonama”. This time around he answered some personal questions, along with giving a few new details about the upcoming Yakuza 5.

  • Yakuza 5 will take place in Kamurocho, but there will also be a second city added to the mix. Right now they are considering Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
  • Nagoshi refused to confirm if the game will have multi-heroes or single hero.
  • No idea if there will be hostess additions for this game like the past couple installments.
  • Nagoshi says it’s unthinkable  having a Yakuza game without Kazuma. He says he is like the Mario character of the series.
  • Nagoshi has stated he wants to make a prequel, like “chapter zero” detailing the past of the Tojo Clan.
As for personal questions, he has stated his favorite vegetable is tomatoes, his favorite candy is gummy and he sleeps with his cat (like actual sleeping, no perverted stuff). Also he says that he used to play in a band in college and is pretty confident in his singing voice. Sounds good.

Classic Sonic Not Returning After Generations

Retro Sonic fans better enjoy their classic Sonic while they can, because it looks like they won’t be seeing him again, at least not for a while.

“Do you know what? There are no plans, to be brutally honest, to bring Classic Sonic back. The reason for bringing him back for this game was because this is a celebration of 20 years of Sonic. It was a real fitting time to do it. He’s really well loved. Let’s see how Generations does. You can never say never in this industry, but at the moment there are no plans.” – David Corless, Brand Manager SEGA Europe

Personally, I don’t see the point in bringing classic Sonic back after this, at least not until the 25th anniversary. Classic Sonic holds a special place in Sonic history. He is all about the 90s when cute little pudgy animals dominated video games. Let him continue to exist as a part of that era, not this one.

Rhythm Thief – New Trailer

This new trailer highlights some of the wacky rhythm based mini games you’ll be playing in Rhythm Thief. These include striking poses to hide from security guards, playing football in the streets of London and biting arses- as a dog.

Rhythm Heaven is exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS and is described as a blend of Professor Layton art and storytelling with the game play of Elite Beat Agents, sounds brilliant!
