Black Leopard: New Yakuza Chapter trailer

The new trailer for Black Leopard: New Yakuza Chapter is almost clocking in at 6 minutes, tells the story of the upcoming spin-off PSP game.

The trailer shows off how the cutscenes will be played off in the full game. Wondering what the trailer is saying? Well, hit the jump to read the translation, provided by the guys over at AndriaSang.com. Also a look at the voice talent.

Nagoshi talks Yakuza and Shenmue similarities

I’m one of those guys that does not think Yakuza is much like Shenmue, I think it have small elements that barrow for Yu Suzuki’s amazing game, but much different in the end. What does Nagoshi have to say about the comparisons?

“Fans are free to judge the game as they like. All of these games were created by SEGA. We might have included game elements from past titles unconsciously. But all of those elements appear in an evolved style.”

I dunno about “evolved style”, Shenmue had a better weather system on the Dreamcast and more varied character NPCs. Just saying. You can read the SPOnG interview here.

Tournament of Legends Combat Trailer

A new game play trailer for High Voltage Software developed Tournament of Legends.

The game looks a bit like a poor mans Soul Caliber and doesn’t really inspire me.

I feel Sega should have stuck with publishing the Conduit games only. While the Conduit was nothing to write home about, it wasn’t a bad Wii game and sold well enough to be profitable for Sega.

Project K finally gets a name & release date

Toshihiro Nagoshi has finally given his PSP Yakuza title a name. He has said it would not be named Ryu Ga Gotaku (Yakuza’s name in Japan, meaning “Like a Dragon”).

So what is it called? “Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou,” which can be translated to “Black Leopard: A New Yakuza Chapter” (or “A New Like a Dragon Chapter”).

The game is also coming out on September 22nd, in Japan. SEGA has not revealed if they will be bringing the title to the west. Japanese readers that pre-order the game will recieve a copy of “Young Kamutai Magazine,” a fictional travel guide to the game’s fictional setting of Kamurocho.

SEGA Saturn surprise launch announcement anniversary

Oh, SEGA,  just to 1up Sony you guys decided to launch your console early. 15 years ago today, SEGA CEO Tom Kalinske stood in front of the press and announced that the SEGA Saturn would launch early do to “high consumer demand”. The announcement was made at the first ever E3.

“Many Americans have gone to the extent of paying $ 800 and more for Sega Saturn units from Japan,” Kalinske explained. “We’ve decided to bring the product to market earlier than scheduled to meet the high consumer demand, to refine our marketing strategy over the summer, prior to the important fall season, and to get a headstart on the competition.”

The SEGA Saturn launched at the price of $399.99 for the stand alone version and $499.99 with Virtua Fighter (also came with a disc that showed other titles).

Hit the jump to read SEGA’s press release from 1995. It is like going back in time.

Yuji Naka teases 2 more projects

Yuji Naka is on a ‘promotion’ streak for the U.S. release of Ivy the Kiwi? In the recent Nintendo Power magazine, Yuji hints at what to expect in the future from Prope.

“We’re currently developing an action game that has yet another new and unique control scheme, and another project that lets you experience a fun real-world activity within a game.” – Yuji Naka

With Playstation Move and Project Natal around the corner, it should be interesting to see what platform either of the projects is for.

The Last Boss: Captain Onishima

Lieutenant Columbo, Inspector Zenigata and Dirty Harry.

Just let those three names roll around in your head for a bit. They’re all really great characters aren’t they? Now imagine them all combined into one person, cell shaded and then put into a video game.

Now go change your underpants and come back to read about Jet Set Radio’s Captain Onishima.

More Sega classics for digital distribution?

It seems like that may be on the cards, in the latest issue of industry weekly MCV, Alan Pritchard, Sega America’s vice president of sales and marketing hinted at just that. While being quizzed on the recent move of SoA to become a more digital focused arm of the company he said,

“There are a number of digital releases that we have slated for the next 12 to 18 months, most of which haven’t been announced yet. As you can imagine, there’s a world of old Sega IP that we can bring to market.”

Other news sites reporting this news have guessed that this could indicate more Sega classics updated in the style of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. However I see no direct indication of this and think it is far more likely that he is talking about ports of arcade and console classics.

*Crosses fingers* Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio! Please!

New Neptune trailer has SEGA logo

There it is, the new “trailer” for Compile Hearts upcoming console war RPG. SEGA is acting as publisher in Japan, chances of it coming out here? Slim. Especially seeing as the graphics will be 2-D and on PS3? Forget it.

Oh well, maybe they will put some English subtitles and most of us can import it? Hey, it could happen!
