Shinobi 3DS – History of Shinobi Trailer

Here’s a Shinobi trailer where members of Sega of America, such as producer Stephen Frost, feel like they need to prove to us that their new Shinobi game is a ‘real’ Shinobi game. But in doing so, they kind of just remind everyone that it isn’t a real Shinobi game. At one point, Stephen says that they took what was great about the classic Shinobi games and made it better, and those are some pretty strong words.

Na- Just kidding! From what I’ve heard it’s- well- not terrible! Which is a real achievement for Sega of America who like to farm out our most beloved Sega classics to unknown developers that previously only made license games… I only hope that when Sega of America re-imagine the next Sega Classic they make sure it’s treated like a classic and not like Golden Axe: Beast Rider.

Lol, a bit harsh there sharky :P. Personally I don’t know what to think of the title myself, but it does seem the devs have the right idea taking from what stephen said. I hope any of u can review the game soon. I wont get a 3ds in a while.

It’s tough love, I don’t hate SoA and I really like some of the people that work there like Aaron and Julian (who was featured on this video) but I simply have to admit that Sega of America have to earn my trust again, they have simply been the worst arm of Sega for too long and really ruined some of my favourite classics by mistreating them. Golden Axe: Beast Rider, Alien Syndrome, NiGHTS:JoD and I’m sure SoA had a big hand in the development of Sonic 4 too.

When I imagined the Shinobi come back- well Shinobi 3DS wasn’t exactly in my vision… Though it could be a good game.

I played it and its pretty damn good. They don’t have to prove anything to anyone. This is more Shinobi than Overwork’s PS2 games and if you can’t see that then you are the same as the ‘green eyed’ whiners.

  4. Sharky says:

I haven’t played it, but I would be comparring it to Shinobi 3 when I did.
Still it isn’t the game I would have hoped for when they said ‘rebooting Shinobi’ I would have liked a HD game on a home console, but that is personal taste. I dislike handhelds.

The 3ds is too powerful, no excuse for cardboard cutscenes 😛

The visuals do look like shite

  7. Hergen says:

Could have been a pretty DS game.

  8. CT says:

The visuals arent really the bigges problem. It’s mostly the stiff animations that throw me off. Nonetheless i think its a great game

  9. Shizzle says:

Yeah the visuals aren’t as bad as the art style.

This is the only Shinobi i’ve seen with a dark anime influence where as the other Shinobi games have all had either a superhero comic style art or a realistic style art.

Even the dreadful ShinobiX was trying to go for a more realistic look. If you want to be true to the game don’t make it look like a run in the mill Ninja anime.

Other way around for me. I think the art style’s nice but the visuals are definitely last gen handheld visuals.

Say what you will about SoA, Sharky, but Shinobi is a damn fun game, and more then lives up to the legacy of Shinobi 3. Now I don’t know how it’ll compare with nostalgia goggles on; I only played Shinobi 3 in 2007; but as far as I’m concerned this game is at least as good, if not better. As I’ve said, this is an evolution of Shinobi 3, and a very good one at that, adding things that make sense and help make for a deeper experience. Rather then questioning whether or not its good, I suggest you play it; it’s out now, you know. 😉
