Sonic Generations – Six Screens from Speedy Highway!

Take a gander at these high-speed Sonic Generations screenshots featuring ‘Speedy Highway’ (first seen in Sonic Adventure) now in glorious HD!

I remember playing Sonic Adventure when it first released on Dreamcast and that one particular set piece in Seedy Highway where Sonic Runs down the side of a sky scraper blew my mind. I’d never seen anything so mind bending, graphically stunning (for its time) and fast in a videogame before. It will stay with me for ever; I hope Sonic Generations can recapture the magic of Speedy Highway!

SEGA having fall press event, teasing unannounced title

SEGA is going to hold a fall press event to show off some of its titles, one game at the event will be announced. Obviously we already know the title being shown at the event, Yakuza: Dead Souls.

The best part? SEGA didn’t invite us, which is a bit lame since we have been posting and supporting titles like Yakuza series coming over from Japan. But hey, thanks for inviting Go Nintendo, seeing as how well they cover Yakuza title news. Now we will sit in the corner of the party drinking our wine coolers and not bothering the other guests.

Dualshockers post an open letter to SEGA: “If You can’t publish It, license it.”

If you have heard our podcasts before, I have complained that SEGA has left some gems over in Japan, sometimes we understand there isn’t a market to meet their expectations.  But why should we, the fans miss out when they can license the IP to a smaller publisher like Atlus or NIS America?

Not only do these smaller publishers know how to push titles to the fans, they also release some nice special edition that gets us all hot and heavy. Remember the  Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love special edition on PS2? Not only that, NIS America ported it to Wii for America.

You can read their open letter over at Dualshockers.

Sonic Colors hasn’t sold 1 million units in the US

Nintendo Power has released a list of all the software that has sold over a million copies in the US. There are many titles that we knew where going to make it. The best selling Wii game? Wii Play sold 13.04 million units. Impressive.
SEGA only had 2 games make it on the list. Yes, you guessed it. Mario & Sonic at Olympic Games (2.12 million) and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (1.34 million). Sadly Sonic Colors did not make the list. That means that the game, so far, hasn’t broken 1 million units in the United States.

Damn, that sucks! Lets see how Sonic Generations performs on the PS3 & 360. Hit the jump for the rest of the list.

New Shinobi 3DS trailer confirms unlockable Joe Musashi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFvVOi_6Gjo
For those of you who where disappointed that Shinobi 3DS didn’t star the awesome Joe Musashi, don’t fear, he is unlockable. He was also unlockable in the PS2 game called Shinobi as well.

Weird? They say Joe Musashi came before the hero in Shinobi 3DS, but the hero in this game is supposed to be Joe’s father, no?

Phantasy Star Online 2 delayed to sometime 2012

SEGA today confirmed that one of their most anticipated titles has been pushed back to sometime in 2012. The game was suppose to release late this year following its Alpha trial but has been pushed back due to fan feedback. Speaking on the matter, producer Satoshi Sakai says the decision was made by SEGA following the feedback from the alpha-test. SEGA has now confirmed that a second trial will be held in early 2012 and those who tried the original alpha as well as new participants will be allowed entry. With such news, expect the release date to be moved to sometime in mid 2012 when SEGA officially announces a new date.

Aliens: Colonial Marines – E3 Demo Footage

When Aliens: Colonial Marines was shown to the press behind closed doors at E3 2011 it seemed to be very well received. Now the rest of us unworthy peons can finally all see why. Narrated by Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford here is a walkthrough of Aliens: Colonial Marines second missions as shown at E3.

Any Aliens fan can tell you that the guys at Gearbox have gone above and beyond to recreate the world and atmosphere of the Aliens movie. With online drop-in Co-Op for up to 4 players I hope for some intence fire-fights with my friends.

I think the game looks beautiful, the graphics are great and the atmosphere seems authentic. If I have one small complaint it would be with the fire and muzzle flash effects looking a bit dated and the tracer bullets looking a bit bulky and cartoonish. Otherwise, everything looks superb and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

From this first look Aliens: Colonial Marines looks as though it’s shaping up to be something special, fingers crossed!

Smithsonian’s The Art of Video Games exhibit to feature original SEGA art!

Via a recent email update, it has been revealed that the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s exhibit The Art of Video Games will include original concept art from the games featured. While the email doesn’t reveal much, it DOES feature a piece of original Sonic concept art showing off the interior of a blimp which I assume to be Flying Battery Zone. If that’s what they’re teasing, who knows what other pieces of SEGA art will appear! Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Phantasy Star are just some of the other SEGA franchises in the exhibition. Fingers crossed for some more original SEGA art! The exhibit opens in Washington, D.C. on March 16, 2012. I’m planning on going, who else is?

The Weekly Five: Sonic Generations Classic Callbacks

While Sonic Generations release is still a month away, thanks to the many screens and video clips released by SEGA, fans have been able to pick apart every pixel. Some screens feature road signs with in-jokes, while others feature references to classic Sonic stages from the Genesis/Mega Drive days. Yes, even though the game only features a handful of classic era zones, that hasn’t kept Sonic team from including callbacks to zones not featured in the game. In this week’s Weekly Five we’ll run through five of these way past cool references.

SEGA posting teaser images online EDIT: Its Yakuza: Dead Souls

SEGA have posted this teaser image on their Facebook account. Many different theories form fans have been shouted, stuff like Shenmue 3 and Dreamcast 2 always making their wonderful return.

So what does it say? According to everyone on Facebook the rough translation is:

“End of that story is no more than a start of the new story”

I asked some of the Japanese community members we have on PSN and haven’t gotten a response. The other two images was one for twitter and one on IGN.

The IGN image says:

“A then so perfect existence, already completely and utterly destroyed”

Edit: According to our Japanese forum member, STORM!, the twitter image says:

“We are going to see that… dead people souls”

Folks, sounds like its a teaser for the reveal of Yakuza: Dead Souls. We already saw this one coming. Thanks SEGA. Also, why did they use the Valkyria Chronicles font?  [/edit]

SEGA Model 3 arcade emulator gets updated

Supermodel3 is a SEGA Model 3 arcade emulator, the guys behind the code have released ver. 0.2a. It actually came out on November 24th, but I’m bad at checking up for this stuff, sorry if its a bit late.

The new update is pretty large for the emulator, here are a few of the big changes:

  • Audio, both SCSP sound and MPEG board music
  • New input system supporting any combination of keyboards, mice, and game controllers
  • Force feedback for a few games (requires new drive board ROMs that first appear in MAME 0.143u6)
Head over to their site to download the emulator and toy around with it. Also send them a nice thank you e-mail for working on wonderful projects like this for free.

[Thanks: Eric!]

Anarchy Reigns: The new Power Stone for parties

Platinum Games has enjoyed a beneficial relationship publisher and that is set to continue with their latest title, Anarchy Reigns. The title is set to be a number of new Intellectual Properties that publisher SEGA is set to be releasing next year and is a sort of spiritual sequel of Platinum Game’s first title, MadWorld. Although not as much as one would expect, there is still plenty that separate the titles, in particular is Anarchy Reigns heavy focus on multiplayer gaming and perhaps become to SEGA what Power Stone was for Capcom. Read on after the break to find out what I thought of the game at the recent Eurogamer Expo.

SEGA promoting Sonic Generations via The Simpsons

SEGA is going to put in some big money for Sonic Generations advertisement. Starting October 1st through December 31st you will be able to catch Sonic Generation adverts when the Simpsons go to ad breaks. Yes, SEGA & Sonic Generation are sponsoring new Simpson episodes.

“It’s on air every single day of the week and at a perfect time of day for dads and sons to watch TV.40 per cent of boys will see the idents over 60 times, an incredible frequency.” – SEGA’s UK marketing director Amanda Far

It seems that this is only confirmed for the UK at least. They will air the adverts across SKY 1, SKY HD and SKY Anytime. As for US marketing, they haven’t played their cards right. Don’t think they will be spending big bucks like in the UK, where Sonic is more popular.

New Kickass Japanese Shinobi 3D Trailer

Shinobi 3DS is one of my most anticipated titles this holiday season. I love the look of some of the set pieces presented in this trailer. If we’re lucky, this game will be the first in a long line of new Shinobi titles. That is, if it sells well enough!
