Check out Conduit 2 split screen gameplay

Video 2 | Video 3

Something that this generation doesn’t do enough of is split screen gaming. I used to love doing this back ‘in the day.’ I know, we have online now, but there are still those days that you just want to play with someone you actually know in real life.

Thankfully, the guys at High Voltage aren’t scared to add this feature into their upcoming Wii exclusive, Conduit 2.

SEGA Sequel Saturdays: Ecco the Dolphin

This will actually be a short one because all things considered, I haven’t spent a ton of time with this series. (And welcome to Episode 12.) I remember my first experience with Ecco was on the Sega Genesis with Ecco: The Tides of Time, which was actually the 2nd game in the series. As a little kid I struggled to get a grasp of how the game worked, and after many tries, I was finally able to progress through several levels, but was never able to finish it. I was a little older when Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future hit the Dreamcast, but found myself making even less progress, taking countless tries at the demo (which was the game’s first level) before finally getting to level 2.

Immediately after I did that, I rented the full game and attempted to play through it, and the 2nd level was as difficult to figure out as the 1st. As it would turn out, I never got past the 2nd level. But what a seriously good-looking game it was. It’s actually pretty impressive, in hindsight, that Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future carried several traits of, well, an open world game, and keep in mind that this was in the pre-GTA3 era. With the “open world” element having now become a staple of modern video gaming, it would be interesting to see this series given another try.

Virtua Tennis 4 – Xbox 360 Trailer

Here’s the Virtua Tennis 4 trailer for the Xbox360 version of the game, the trailer highlights the option of using either the Kenect control scheme or the usual controller based control scheme we all know and love.

I have to say, this looks like a really awesome Virtua Tennis game. Probably the best I’ve seen since Virtua Tennis 2. The World Tour mode looks really well done and I’m always down for some of the great mini games the series includes.

Puyo Puyo online Virtual Console hits Japan on Tuesday

SEGA already announced that they would be releasing the arcade version of Puyo Puyo on Virtual Console. But not only that, it was going to be the first Virtual Console title to have online play. Well, the game finally got its release date. April 12th and will cost you 800 wii points.

Of course the release date we are talking about is only for Japan, since it has not been announced for America just yet. Below is a screen of the wi-fi screen that allows the users to play with strangers, friends or show your firends code. Basic Wii online stuff.

Sonic Stories: CrazyTails

In celebration of Sonic’s 20th anniversary, SEGAbits proudly presents a limited feature highlighting SEGAbits stories from writers and readers of how they got into the franchise and their history with Sonic. Want to share your Sonic story? Check out the dedicated topic in the SEGAbits forum.

Everyone must be aware of Sonic’s 20th anniversary coming closer with each day. I’m sure lots of you are very hyped up! It is the time where fans go ape shit for the smallest tidbit of news, a time where speculation can possibly turn into fan wars. Yeah, great times indeed!

I have pretty much established myself here at SEGAbits, so I feel honored being picked to share my story on how I’ve got to know SEGA’s mascot, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! I hope ya’ll enjoy reading my story!

Why SEGA should stick with PlatinumGames

The closure of Clover Studio several years back was a sad day for the gaming industry, not only because they had just developed a multiple Game of the Year award winner (the beautiful Okami) but also because it was such a shame to see the developer of some of Capcom’s most interesting and innovative content getting the axe. It was a dose of reality: a reminder that originality and innovation doesn’t always pay off (and SEGA knows that probably better than anybody) in an industry that’s rapidly becoming more and more hit-driven and sequel-based.

The good news came shortly after, when it was revealed that the heads of Clover Studios had no intention of folding back inside Capcom. Instead, key developers Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, and co. formed what would eventually become PlatinumGames, taking many former Clover Studios developers with them. In a move of pure brilliance, SEGA picked up the partnership, what turned out to be an incredible fit.

SEGA takes down Streets of Rage Remake download links

Fans want a Streets of Rage Remake and SEGA didn’t answer. What did they do? They did it themselves, without using any of SEGA’s code. They recently released the final version of their game and it didn’t excite SEGA too much.

“SEGA have contacted regarding the download hosted on this site. While this issue is being resolved, please do not upload the game for others to download. Any links posted on this site will be removed. Thank you.”

Seems that SEGA might think that a remake like this, that is free, will cut into sales from their re-releases. It sucks, I really liked it when SEGA would allow people to remake stuff like this. They don’t say much to all those Sonic fan games.

Yakuza 4 hostess turns porn actress

So after spending hours and hours trying to get this hostess to look at me in a positive light, she goes and turns into a porn actress? Is it even called acting? I feel cheated, I want my high end jewelry back.

Elena Aihara has debuted her 225 minute epic pornography dvd, where they actually film inside a hostess club. Yes, I guess she got this gig due to Yakuza 4. You can view product page here, its safe for work unless you click on the cover of the DVD.

Below is pictures of her in-game in Yakuza 4.

Phantasy Star Universe – PSU PC Updated, PSU PS2 closes!

It seems that the era of Phantasy Star Universe is coming to a close. Today Sega have announced that the Japanese Playstation 2 PSU servers will be shut down, leaving only the PC version still up and running.

However it’s not all doom and gloom; with the closing of the PS2 servers, the PC version of PSU is getting a substantial update introducing new areas, photon arts, items, special abilities and more. All are based on Phantasy Star Portable 2 or Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity.

With Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity doing well in the Japanese charts (well deserved) and the much anticipated Phantasy Star Online 2 on its way the Phantasy Star series looks set to continue for many years to come.

Hit the jump to see an early rundown of the new content coming to PSU-PC soon.

Yakuza of the End gets June 9th release date

Yakuza of the End was supposed to be released in March, but a huge earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan. You probably heard of it. What is SEGA to do? Release a game where zombies attack Japan and leave everything destroyed while actual tragedy has hit Japan?

SEGA did the right thing and delayed the game. Some people thought the game was going to join 2001’s Propeller Arena (a AM2 DC game not released because of 9/11) and never come out. Well it is, June 9th. Few changes, some of the profits from the game will go to help Japan and the first print has a sticker that says “Ryu ga Gotoku Ganbaro, Nippon!”

Ganbaro means to stay strong and Nippon translates to land of the rising sun, a nickname for Japan.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity has sold 312k copies so far

The latest Media Create Sales are out for the week, ending on April 3rd. Guess who came in at number 10? Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and it sold 12,000 units for the week. Not bad.

On the same note, the PSP has outsold the 3DS for the second week in Japan as well. Maybe SEGA focusing on PSP titles in Japan isn’t that big of a mistake after all. If only the NGP would perform better in the west, I guess we will see.
